The Best Champagne Cocktail - festive and fun
The best way to say "Happy New Year" is with champagne, and why not turn that into a cocktail! This easy-to-build drink dates back to the mid 1800's and is a simple blend of champagne, bitters, and sugar. This year, however, I believe we've all earned a little something extra in our cocktail, so I'm adding a bit of cognac. It's completely optional of course, but I think the addition makes this version the best. I hope you enjoy this take on the classic. Here's to a fresh start.
Happy New Year!

I did a build-your-own champagne bar for a friends and family New Years once. It went over great, with recipes to make several different options available. The favorite as I recall was a simple Kir Royale. Everyone was free to add as much Creme de Cassis as they cared for, so that bottle did NOT last long.

I’m way late to the party, but I second this. Time for a book, Anders and Az!
This looks lovely and delicious!
Happy New Year, Anders & Az! Great lesson. And yes, I have found the vowels that I lost last night. Loving the cognac enhancement here & in the 75. Cheers. 😎🥂
Well done to you both for surviving 2021 - it was a hell of a year.
Absolute love these videos.
Love this cocktail! Absolute classic! Cheers!
I feel sad I've never tried this, but perhaps I will on my birthday this year. It looks like a really good drink ! Thank you both, as ever.
Bummed I didn’t see this video sooner! This looks great!

Happy New Year, Anders & AZ. Love the vibe of your videos. I just picked up a bottle of bourbon cream, idea? I cannot get enough AZ! Make it so!
Made it with Grand Marnier over brown sugar cubes sacked in Orange Angostura bitters. Absolute delish 🥂 with Raspberry Chocolate 🍫
Great video man. The videos are getting better and better and are really entertaining as well. Happy New Year to both of you and your loved ones. Cheers!

Really good call on chilling the cognac. I’ve been bummed with how a warm/room temp cognac can really affect the champagne. Happy New Year! 🥂🍾

Yeah, it's amazing how the chilled cognac makes a world of difference. Happy New Year, Vino!
This was an interesting taste indeed. I must say, the bitters did give a better taste to the champagne that I used(Korbel Brut). The bitters were not over powering the champagne as I thought it might have but enhanced the champagne instead. I did get a hint of the brown sugar halfway through the glass. Mixed feelings about this one.
Happy New year! Looks delicious!

This just came up in my feed and I thought I missed 5 days of my life... 2021... ok, we good
Yours worked so well. When we did it for the show I was certain that this drink was all about the presentation but it didn't bubble up and it tasted like champagne with a bunch of sugar in the bottom "It's like tasting the stars"

In Japanese bars, all spirits are stored in the freezer. It changes the texture of the spirit making it richer on the palate and intensifies the flavor components. I thought that was really neat.
Happy New Year. Hope 2021 is good to you and Az. Thank you for all the great recipes! 🥂🍾🎉🎊

Happy New Year! Also When peeling the orange the oil when you twist it can be lit and causes a Burst of flame for a second.
Yum
Happy new year guys!
when are you making a homemade Angustura Bitter and a Homemade triple Sec ? Thank you for your videos it's really relaxing and interesting
Name two classic movies where Champagne Cocktails are mentioned. Casablanca, when Victor Laszlo orders two of them Godfather ll, when Frank Pentangeli is being snarky about Michael Corleone's lifestyle. Cheers!
Try getting some black sugar cubes from Okinawa. Some of the high-end bars in Vegas use it.

Nice vid, I found it easier to open sparkling wine if you leave the wire cage on the cork after you undo the twist, it gives a nice grip on the cork.

That's actually the way I was taught to do it! Couldn't agree more! Then twist the bottle, not the cork!
No one mentioned this down as far as I read, the word you’re looking for is; “nucleation sites”, regarding CO2 bubbles forming on the surface of the sugar cube.
I love AZ. I'm not making this one unless someone has champagne on hand. I drank it at a fancy wedding...highly unimpressed.
A Demerara sugar cube or a regular white cane sugar cube? Thoughts anyone?
You so funny 😂

These ones will as they're 45% ABV. As with any alcohol, they may evaporate over time and the taste will change as a result, but they'll always be safe to drink, just not necessarily palatable.
I have enough brandy points now to become an honorary Wisconsinite, no? Preferred garnish: a raisin. Happy New Year and love to you both. Stay warm y’all.

I'm really curious.....about the R's on the wall
@AndersErickson
3 жыл бұрын
They're from a sign lettering workshop Az and I took a couple of years ago - she did the green one on the top, and I did the red one on the bottom. "R" is a good letter to practice curves, straight lines and diagonals. Sadly there wasn't a deeper meaning than that 😂

“Biscuity…bready”…fancy.
That’s a lot of cognac
Seelbach is great drink instead champagne cocktail
Hi Anders! Where did you get that shirt?
I have scotch and bourbon. What do you think instead of the cognac
@mydogeatspuke
2 жыл бұрын
Not even close. I mean you could use either of them and it would be fine, but it wouldn't be this specific drink, because this calls for cognac. Most drinks can be made with whatever you have, be that spirit or just different brands. Drink what you enjoy drinking. Just make sure your expectations are low if you're dramatically changing a recipe as you're obviously not making the same thing.
Wow. What a burn on the cocktail napkin. Stop watching my videos immediately! 😂 But seriously, I now feel like an outdated idiot lol. Wasting paper like that...

Lol this didn't age well! Love your channel though, just made one of these and was awesome.
I went in to a fancy cocktail lounge that was very trendy for NYE about three years ago. Smoked whiskey concoctions, you know the drill. I asked for a champagne cocktail at the bar and they had no idea what it was - "is that any cocktail with champagne in it?" To me, a champagne cocktail is a well known classic on the same level as an old fashioned, for example. Not knowing it and claiming to be a bartender is ludicrous. Also, their glassware was all from Ikea - which, ok fine - but not if you are trying to be a fancy, high end sort of place, with prices to match. Was not impressed, and am not surprised that they went out of business.

When buying a drink, are you not paying for the alcohol rather than the glass it's served in? Lots of places went out of business in the past few years, there's been lockdowns and a pandemic and massive amounts of inflation making everyone's money worthless and supply chain problems the world over. I highly doubt they went out of business because they dared to use IKEA glasses. As for not knowing what you were talking about, nobody knows everything. You could have explained how to make it and been their favourite customer who opened their world to new cocktails they'd never seen before. Tending bar these days means knowing how to pull a pint, what you're thinking of is a mixologist, which isn't even close to the same thing.
Pandemic still here, sad :(
This is the worst name for a cocktail😂
