I always though he decided to help her, because deep down he is anger, a good person/being with good intentions.

Denji defeats the antagonist at the very end of part one with "LOVE". If anything is opposed to fear, it's love. With how the series has played with opposites so far, it's more than likely Denji represents some sort of heavenly/Godly aspect.

HOLY FRICK! Even the fact that Denji only ate bread at the start is a clever nod to "Man does not live by bread alone" as him meeting Pochita ended up being his reason to connect with others.

I just love it when artists, a mangaka in this case, take inspiration from mythology, religion, culture or anything like that. It just gives that extra depth and spice to the art, it adds that mist of mystery and otherworldness to it, and most of the time it just improves the overall feeling of the work. Great job by Fujimoto right there!

***this is gunna b long but plz hear me out*** mentioning the levels/categorization of angels was a really good interpretation. ive seen other readers of different regions mention that (upon her reveal) Makima is referred to as the devil of “Domination” in certain languages instead of the English translation of “Control” devil. While it may seem rather obvious the similar meaning, a lot of readers explained how this difference in translation was somewhat hard to follow or fully understand while reading. now having said that, i noticed one of the levels of angels are literally deemed as dominions, which leads me to think, maybe the speculation around Makima’s very miniscule but STILL there, sense of “humanity” we see her show (when she cries while watching a film with denji of two ppl hugging/or her desire to create equal relationships between humans) adds any validity to her association to Heaven rather than hell. She even says at one point that she in fact is a fan of the “chainsaw man”, which can be interpreted as being one of his followers, who as you mention, is probably associated to heaven (pochita). This would place her in the middle order of angels, which also coincides with Powers rank in the hierarchy. This makes a lot of sense given the fact that we eventually know Makima has the ability to control the Angel Devil, who is below her technical rank, and she often views Power as a problematic force from the jump bc in a way, she is just as powerful in her own will and strength given the ranking system. After all, Power at the end of the day is one of the main reasons Denji was able to defeat Makima (bc of the blood she gives him) and her role in defending Denji was an accurate allusion to a power angels role as a special warrior in defense of goodness. So, in the end, despite her manipulative tactics that led to the demise of many, maybe Makima wasn’t necessarily evil after all? Which can also explain Denji’s persistent fondness of Makima, despite the harm she has caused. Bc in the end, she genuinely thought she was fighting the “good” fight in regards to the future of humanity. It all just clicked. 🤯

I don't think she was evil. Her goals were noble, she just had 0 reservations about achieving them. Perhaps it's the fact she knows humans who die are not completely erased from existence, thereby she views killing them as not being a bad thing on its own. She wanted a world where she was basically God over the earth with humanity as her pet project, and Chainsawman as her equal. The way she goes about achieving this is the only way she knows how, through manipulation and control, using those she deems lesser as her pawns.

I was doubting you until you mentioned the angel names/rankings Makima assigned to different devils. I can't imagine this having any other purpose other than allude to Pochita being a godly being, and that heaven does exist in universe. This adds a lot context to the story and characters!!! the chainsaw on the head could represent jesus' crown of thorns im not sure if fujimoto would go that far, but considering he designed makima much before he started writing chainsaw man, its likely that he planned the plot on angels and devils much before creating denji's design

Your theories are almost always so well detailed and so good in structure, you’d think you already know what’s going to happen!! Because this makes so much sense and gives the manga another layer of symbolism. Gonna come back to this video when the manga is over because fuji is chaotic enough to tell a religious story like this

I like the idea that the four horsemen are after chainsaw man and, by proxy, Denji for defeating and eating Satan. He freed hell from Satan's tyrannical rule and ate Satan, making most forget about him. The horsemen were his closest followers, but now they each have different goals. One wants the power (Makima). One wants revenge (War). The other two are still up in the air. Maybe one has figured out a way to get chainsaw man to eat things people don't fear in an attempt to wipe them from existence. Imagine if he was forced to eat something that represented antibiotics... illnesses would ravage the world.

This theory does make sense actually, it explains why Pochita can erase devils and understand their true desires. Pochita might not "kill" devils but instead save them from being devils, this also explain why he understands devils true desires, his a pure savior character. He's also depicted as a dog, and dogs are good boys, so...

That makes a lot of sense. When he consumes a devil he purges them from existence and absolves their sins. This has the added effect of causing the evil that they spread to humanity to also be undone, slowly reverting Earth back to its garden of Eden state.

I have a theory, sort of, what if pochita really is the chainsaw devil, his ability to basically eat and delete the concept of things makes sense. In the earlier episodes denji rarely used his chainsaw since it made too much of a mess and made things unrecognizable. What is a term that is associated with someone with a chainsaw as a weapon? Rip and Tear. Pochita isn’t actually erasing or killing a devil, but he is really just eating the fear that devil has gained after ripping and tearing apart that devils concept to pieces, this would explain why pochita is so strong for a devil of his caliber. He rips apart the devils concept and then eats the strength/fear they have acquired to force him to do so

This theory made so much sense, I really don't know how else the elements could fit together. Great theory.

My theory for why chainsaw and the others changed into their respective fears, is because those are some more common fears: bugs, blood, violence, spiders, sharks etc. By choosing said fears it would be easier as there would be less strong potential enemies and would be a great choice in general as they would probably be pretty strong. As for angel if he was the weakest, it would have probably been the best to use him as some form of contact with heaven, as it might have been hard to do so without it. The only problem being chainsaw as i cant really make any connection.

this theory is so gooood, it made me think that if this theory of pochita's actual identity is true, then the chainsaw-man looking figure that we see kill yuko in part 2 could be the real chainsaw devil. it would be interesting to see how denji would react when they eventually meet, it will definitely make him start to question what pochita actually is

16:10 I think it might be apart of it, but not exactly. Chainsaws represent a tool that is extremely helpful for humans to create and build, similar to how Makima uses Denji to try and achieve her goals. Chainsaws are also seen as a horrific tool when misused, freak accidents and murders, which is helped by horror movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Pochita likely became a Chainsaw Devil to represent that he is meant to be used to help humanity, but chose a concept that he knew would grow in strength and fear overtime in case someone wanted to use him for evil.

As crazy as this theory is, we can only try to guess.. but you have to know Fujimoto won't just go with the seemingly logic way. He will just once again make us all shocked because of whatever he choose the real thing to be

I have a short theory for each of the horseman devils. So as we all know, Makima, the conquest/control devil wanted to control CSM. Now, Yoru, the war devil who has history w CSM, wants him dead. This information is fact, so that leads me to believe the famine devil wants to eat CSM. Straight forward, however, Makima has been reborn as Nayuta, which changes the dynamic of Denji and hers current relationship, but let’s not worry about that. Finally, let’s not forget the death devil. The final horseman who has yet to be revealed because I believe the death devil may be stuck in hell. Potentially working with either Yoru or the famine devil, the death devil wants CSM to die, meet her(assuming death will be a waifu) in hell, battle w/ denji and lose, so this will allow death to transfer to earth and reign down hell unlike any other devil before. We can almost guarantee there’s another more powerful devil pulling the strings above the fours horseman, but that’s where my brain storming ends.

@@FlipBoji Pochita did not eat Makima. It was Denji. Both Denji and Pochita are both separate entities, although under the same vessel. Denji eating Makima isn’t anything to do with the Erasure Devil’s powers because Pochita never ate her to begin with. In fact, it was her dream to be eaten by the “Chainsaw Devil” but Denji’s actions completely contradicted her wishes; resulting in a win for Denji. Anyway, my point is Pochita never ate Makima so none of what you said makes sense here. Hope you understand 👍

This theory/lore is so ****ing good, everything does add up with this theory in a sensical way, since Fujimoto's way of making a story, is always screwed up and twisted. Good visuals too!

Wierd thought, but could the final horseman just be a culmination of the current three? Like famine causes death, war causes death, and I guess conquest or someone controlling you could just lead to death (maybe literal and like the "death" of your freedom). Also, could the reason why the 3 horsemen sort of avoid each other because they too fear death?

I think your Jesus = chainsaw man is pretty accurate especially when you look at Catholic interpretations of the crucifixion. Where it is said that Jesus didn't just for for our sins but defeated death and opened heaven for us. And if you consider that in that interpretation Jesus forgave mankind for all his sins past, present, and future. With sin in the manga being equivalent to fear in terms of demon power. The chainsaw eliminating fears is similar to Jesus forgiving, or removing the barrier of sin, from humanity.

Bro I was just noticing a lot of these points on my reread. I'm glad someone fleshed it out into an actual theory. One other thing, pochitas main enemies are the horsemen. So he's literally sacrificing himself to save humans from the apocalypse

Great video! I agree with most everything your saying here. Makes so much sense. I also think chainsaw man gets his power from fear also, since he is a devil still. But his fear is not from humans really but from all the devils afraid of being erased. Most devils seem to already know of him and are in some way intimidated or afraid.

A chainsaw would also be very useful to cut down a crucifixion cross…I think you’re on to something here!

Probably correlation and not causation, cuz Fujimoto mainly got inspired by the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But who knows?

As watching the video for 16 seconds, this gonna be a banger.

It seemed to me that Chainsaw Man's true goal, from Pochita's perspective and desire, is to get rid of all fears. But this also raised a question. Is it a good idea? For example, if we humans no longer feared snakes and the venomous snakes bit some humans and led to their deaths, the one at fault here will be the Chainsaw Man because he was responsible for killing the Snake Devil, the source of fear of snakes. If we stopped fearing what needed to be fear, it will doomed humanity in the end because some fears such as fear of snakes is what kept us humans alive.

I think that when the devils are erased, the concept or thing they represent is also erased from existence. So losing the instinct that causes people to see snakes as a hazard doesn't matter because snakes don't exist at all in their world. At least I think that's how it works 🤔?

@@neil5694 That's exact how Pochita's consumption power works. The fear and the very thing associated with that fear both disappear. Nuclear weapons and Nazis both disappeared from the world of CSM, and were forgotten by humanity writ large, and history was rewritten to account for their disappearance.

Love this theory so many things make sense!!

My theory is that Denji eating Makima at the end of the Arc is what gave him the power to erase concepts by eating them. The only way a humble chainsaw devil could have that kind of power is by consuming one of the four horseman and somehow integrating that power.

Man I was so disappointed that we only got 12 episodes especially because part 1 could've been one and a half seasons.

This is a real interesting theory! I was thinking where would God fit in within the Chainsaw universe and storyline and looking at where things are currently with the release of chapter 119, I wonder if Denji, Asa/Yoru and Nayuta will be able to team up against both the Famine and Death devils in the future.

so i have this theory, imagine when eventually no one fears denji and they start workshipping him and that lead to him being powerfull again. So its basically like hate vs love, i dont know its sounds stupid tho

I personally think that the chainsaw (12:00) represents the Trinity God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit which means that Pochita is a God in some way

I feel like the angel devil only told her about heaven out of pity

The idea of Jesus just thinking chainsaw massacre was pretty cool and chose that as his embodiment would not surprise me in the least for fujimoto to write

I just thought that Angel was taking pity on the dying woman. If a real angel came up to you, while you were dying and said that you were going to heaven, you would be at peace. I assumed he just wanted her to be at peace when she died painlessly using his powers.

I think the reason the son of god chose chainsaw’s is because of the sound it makes. I don’t remember which chapter it was, but I think I remember the angel devil saying devils back to hell could hear the sound of a chainsaw engine(or something like that). Idk if I’m in the wrong and I’m definitely not enough smart to make big deductions out of all of this but just wanted to share my thoughts on the subject

I deviated a bit from what the video said because I started to think: What if Chainsaw Man is the Death Devil? If we speak biologically, death is when a living creature stops existing: their conscience disappears and their bodies become subjects for the environment to change. By all means, the physical form of a creature becomes incapable of proving its own existance, willingly anyway. However, in a way, as long as someone or something remembers that there ever was the concept of a living creature existing, as long as that concept can, in any way, influence what we know, think and or do. The creature lives. Now, enter Chainsaw Man's power: it is eradicating concepts from the public's conscience. What can be more final than no one remembering that something ever existed? Also, note that when Chainsaw Man eats a devil, it doesn't replay history in another timeline where the concept of that devil never existed. It only deletes the public's ability to recall said concept, which forces civilization to carry on without the knowledge. It's not that the Nazis or the Holocaust never happened, it's only that no one remembers that they happened so society carries on without its consequences. Who knows what happened to the memory of the people who died in those events? Those whose lives were ever influenced in any way by those events? And with that case, many more. Nuclear bombs are probably somewhere in the planet still, it's just that nobody knows what they are, so they don't exist to the public.

I think the "Its ok youre going to heaven" line is meant to show that the angel devil has empathy and tries to comfort the dying woman. I mean she thought it was an angel collection her

This is such an amazing theory and it explains chapter 122 of csm part 2 how this Nostradamus Property that says a great king of terror will descend this king is probably Lucifer who has taken on a new name and yes the Death Devil would be a good match since death is the main thing that came with sin

Ive been commenting on channels about this.. Its amazing we both have similar theory. Here it is copy pasted: heres my theory on why pochita is so strong: the real identity of pochita is actually the "god" devil. heres my reasons why: 1. the existence of "angel" devil proves that even heavenly characters are feared and therefore has a devil counterpart. 2. the "four horsemen of apocalypse" which is now heavily implied is a christian figure which means fujimoto sometimes base his story on religious figures. Now, remember how the supposedly "chainsaw man" was described. its something around like this: "even when he falls/die, the engine still revs up and he gets up no matter what". i think that is a reference to Jesus on how he was crucified and still he will rise up again. 3. 'god' basically gave the existence of everything and so he can also take it away. this is a strong parallel to the ability of the chainsaw man where he can take away the existence of a devil by eating. Remember that not even dying can take away the existence of another devil. they just respawn. 4. only 'god' has the tendency to be more powerful than death. People might fear death, but people fear god more in the judgment day. 5. even devils fear 'god' (religious reference) --- the title of pochita, which is "the most feared devil of all, even among devils themselves". 6. Fujimoto likes to play with words… example: when chainsaw cuts makima, its like the word makima cut in between which becomes ma_ma which means he longs for a mothers love but hes just doesnt know it. I like to think hes also playing with dog which is spelled backwards as god Unfortunately, i cant theorize why he has a chainsaw ability. we can just assume that he eaten some real chainsaw devil so he acquired a power like that.

I dont think this is too important but i wanted to mention it: So, Pochita being the son of God and lots of the heaven's hierarchy being on his side doesn't quite work with the fact that Pochita only wanted to have an equal relationship with someone, but he couldn't because he has too much power. I think, if this theory is true, God (or the God devil) treats Pochita as a weapon. Like in God of War, Odin treats Thor as a tool and control him so he couldn't fight back, and when he does fight back, Odin kills him. Like I said, I dont think this is relevant for now, but in the future this could be important.

As an ex-hardcore christian nerd the first interesting stuff I've noticed was the references to drinking blood (when Denji drinks Powers blood) and eating flesh (when Denji eats Makima's flesh) pretty common rituals in christinity, wich serve as purification and a way to "absorb life", I thought it was just me but your analysis made a lot of sense. Also previous Fujimoto's works like Fire Punch address religious topics too.

When i first read chansaw man i thought "haha whos afraid of a gun devil?!" But i only thouht of this cause im american and guns are really common i mean shit man my dad has two guns in our house right now.....then i truly thought about it, the ones afraid are every victim of a mass shooting, any serial killer who used guns, any terrorist who has nothing, but hatred for anericans, any american soldier commiting war crimes overseas, any cop who was bullied as a kid who just wants you to give him any minor reason for him to pull his service weapon on you and fire cause he "feared for his life" etc, theres alot of reasons to fear guns....im so sorry...😔
