The Best Car the USA NEVER GOT, Japan's ONLY Chauffeur-driven V12 Car | Toyota Century 97' Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Yes, it is Japan's only Chauffeur-driven Car! The plant where the Century is produced is very different from a standard mass-production plant. There is no assembly line, no long row of cars. There is no sound of electronics or machinery. In this quiet, spacious area, a small number of highly trained, skilled craftsmen create cars almost as if they are producing works of art. The production process for the Century has five steps: stamping, body, painting, assembly, and inspection. Each step incorporates the master craftsmanship one would expect for a Century. Also, this car was mentioned in Donut Media's "10 Best Cars the USA NEVER GOT" as #1.

I think one point that was missed in this video about the wool interior but was touched on in Regular Car Reviews video on a similar Century in NZ; Wool is an amazing material as it naturally wicks moisture from your body, meaning even on a hot summer day you wouldn't be getting sticky like in a leather interior. It's also a great insulator so on cold days you are being kept warm. One point as well is it's naturally anti-microbial, meaning it stays cleaner for far longer and doesn't develop that "gooch juice" smell even after years of ownership. Wool is far far far superior to leather imo because of those reasons and why I imagine the Century was developed that way.

I’ve been studying the century. I’ve owned a 92 LS400 Lexus. I have a 2001 LS 430 ultra premium package, as well, a 2010 LS 460 L AWD, Ultra premium package. It’s quite phenomenal what the LS400 had as features , notable for the 1992 year, a 3-D instrument cluster which if replaced was $2400 back then. U didn’t see it for long, too costly, just a trinket for the early flagship purchasers Other features are, heated memory seat, auto entry and egress telescopic tilt steering wheel. Double pane laminated glass, extra thicker glass on the windshield = ultra quiet car. And the air condition activated fridge between the seats in the rear armrest zone. There are 1,000,000 mile LS 400s on the road today. The 430 is even dreamier. The distronic cruise control was way ahead of most cars. It’s sort of had Lane departure warning if you drifted over the white line on the right hand side, (left-hand steer of course) it reduces the car speed quickly and gave an audible continuous beep. It also had an LS 430 image seen in the instrument cluster, with little active brake lights seen as the brakes were applying. This superseded the otherwise auto engine down shifting when more urgent braking was calculated by the Cruise control computer. Of course this is pre-priming the brakes for immediacy. Lexus was way ahead by 10 years of Mercedes. Furthermore, Self levelling air suspension with adjustable height. Computer influenced centre consul Oscillating vents responding to drive or passengers individualized temperature desires. So my super air-conditioning doesn’t blow on her warmer side so it adjust the amount of slide corresponding to the two different temperatures, that’s really awesome. Ya, studying their movement you start to learn these things. Favourite colour, Midnight Jade. Everybody thinks the car is black but then on the right angle the whole car is emerald green, it’s beautiful. Dudes in the US recently have discovered that the LS 430 engine silk and indestructible thus they are becoming racing modifier. In Japan the entire cars are totally pimped out spectacularly. These cars are not going anywhere. I’m blown away by the new Century that looks like a Rolls-Royce, it’s magnificent. As my 2010 LS 460 is still pretty new to me, one 1/2 years, whats the rush,,,, and u guys can read all about it easily, investigate. Owners manual is over- 5 hundred pages. Its my titillations to saver for years.

There were a few in Hong Kong also, to think just a few years ago these were selling here in NZ for $5,000 to $10,000 for a very good one now the price has gone up sharply! I test drove one in grey a 1997, beautiful supple ride.. my friend was looking to buy it but couldn't decide if it was for him :) I found out about these when one featured in that brilliant Bill Murray movie Lost in Translation ... love the end scene the most!

Best car ever owned. Love it to pieces. Don't forget the duster in the trunk made with ostrich feathers. Or the Toyota shaver.... 🤣

The late 90's was Toyota's best years. I still drive a 1996 Camry Vienta Grande and after all these years it still runs like a dream.

Toyota is the finest car company in the world hands down. I have owned several Lexus’ and Toyota cars and never had and issue with any of them. My 3 children drive Toyota’s and I just bought another Lexus LS 460. Great cars! I have also only ridden Japanese motorcycles since I was a kid growing up in the 70’s. Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha’s. My kids learned how to ride two wheelers on a Yamaha Vino two stroke scooter which I still have today it is a 2003 with over 11,000 miles on it. I have a 1997 Toyota Camry I keep as a spare car and it has 265,000 miles and it is still dependable and tight. No smoke and runs strong and a tight transmission. Yes I am a fan of Japanese engineering and quality. The best small engine designers and manufacturers on the planet. 👍

I was very young when I first saw one of these back in Nigeria. Never knew what they were until I grew up and later understood they were more refined Toyotas. Funny how cheap these are today even with their high quality.

The name change is also because in both Hiragana and Katakana, Toyota has 8 strokes to write. Which is really important for Japanese traditionally when it comes to naming things. 8 is a lucky number in Japan (similar to much of East Asia)
