The Emily's and Peter Luger's Burger are both fantastic and I honestly agree with her idea - Emily's as a bit newer-age and fun (also for a group) but Peter Luger's just exudes so much unapologetic, over-the-top quality.

I went to Emily to try the famous burger, it was surprisingly too sweet for my liking. A touch too red as well. The pizza was amazing though, among the best I've ever had.

There are many many great burger places in NY... these places are definitely right up there... but it's split there's traditional burgers like JG Melon and Peter Luger... it's just meat, bun, cheese, raw onion and pickles... there's no sauce... while Emily and the happiest hour are with sauce and caramelised onions, different cheeses etc. They're borderline different things. Final thing is the price... JG Melon is 12.5 ($13 now)... Emily is $27 (it's $31 now btw)... Peter Luger and Happiest Hour both at $15 (no fries)... Emily burger is probably the best... but it's not twice as good.... But that's the beauty you can choose whichever one you want... or even go to in and out or shake shack both great burgers as well

Putting ketchup on a gourmet burger is like putting A1 sauce on a Kobe steak. They don't mix.

The one in the Emily’s restaurant looks perfect. The brioche bun, the sauce and the toppings - proper gourmet burger. For the rest - only when you see the frozen, industrial bun you can tell it’s not made with care all the way down
