For a rookie like me, brake bias is always like that one thing which looks simple but I keep thinking, “start driving consistent first then you can work on the brake bias” and has always kept me from using it. 😅

Give it a shot when practicing. You're going to use it as a tool to get more or less rotation out of the car! I wish I could go back in time and learn about BB at an earlier point, it really helps a lot to understand car balance.

thanks for the video this helped explain it a lot! one thing i missed though, is raising the brake bias as in 50% -> 52% ? like raising the number? i would assume thats what you mean but ive never properly understood it.

when testing brake Bias how much of a percent will change the effect. I find myself only changing it by half of a percent. like if its fixed to 58% I will maybe go 58.5 or 57.5.

Change it at least 1.5% to see noticeable effect - then fine tune it for that. Let me give you an example - last week SFL at Silverstone the fixed brake bias was 57% - i lowered it to 53.5% to get the desired balance for my driving style. Some setup shops were running even 52% - the whole idea was to have a good front end so that the car can attack the high speed corners. Its going to depend on the track, but the best approach is to do a big change when testing to get from oversteer to understeer and vice versa - then fine tune!

Yeah I'm gonna have to be more mindful of this, so far in iRacing I have just been ignoring the BB. What do you recommend for the Porsche Cup Car? It's already at 45% by default, should this be adjusted even more towards the back? 40/60?

The new pcup weight distribution is more rearward. I've had good success with 41.x% at silverstone (2:05s in quali) and road atlanta (1:22s in practice so far).

@@404nobrakes Wow 41% huh. Just to make sure that's a 41/59 split right? Okay I'm gonna have to try something like that.

@@404nobrakes Wow, rearward brake bias on a Porsche Cup car? Won't the rear of the car be very especially nervous and unstable at braking zone? Not having a go at you, but I've always thought that rear-engined cars like Porsche will tend to favour a little more frontward brake bias, so that during braking, the front will be heavy (due to braking motion and inertia), while the rear will still be heavy due to engine weight, improving weight stability. I can be corrected though.

@@jianh1989 that's just the game, man. There's a reason why pcup is considered one of the hardest cars to drive on iracing. And braking is the hardest part of pcup. The dirty secret is that most people just don't brake at the maximum capacity of the car, because you're likely to lock up or at least cook your tires. If you're only braking at 80% pressure, you may as well move the bias rearward. I just watched a stream where the guy was running -7 bias, which I think is around 39%, at road atlanta.
