Pet supplies plus in my area still does 1 dollar a gallon a couple times a year but you can only get it in tanks up to 40 gallons.

I only wish I lived near any pet shop. I live 3 to 4 hour round trip to any pet shop. It isn't ideal. I hope to re locate closer to a city with in the next year. Well on the outskirts, so shopping will be only 1 hr. round trip away. There is a Petsmart there. The only pet shop in the small city. They only have fantail goldfish 2 or 3 times a year. It's crazy.

I have that same 125g from petsmart. I got a steal on it and had to have it. It’s been perfect but my fish are out growing it.

I don't buy fish very often from big box stores, but the employees at Petco have been so much better than Petsmart! They actually ask what size tank you have! They care about the fish that they are selling 👍

Yes and no I’ve had numerous employees give out horrible information and outright refused to sell people fish cause they didn’t have a tank that ran for quote on quote atleast 6 weeks or some stupid shit instead of advising them on how to establish a safe new tank for fish via prime stability bacteria etc etc

Petco are supposed to be branching out into the UK.

Fish at Petsmart, food and gear are about the same at both but I second the comment below Petco employees are way better. Plus Petco runs the deal on 1$ per gallon tanks every now and then.

There are different fish stores other then petsmart and petco that you can buy fish from like petland Jack's aquarium so if people say that they haven't went to those stores before doesn't mean they are lieng

I haven't bought anything from petco or petsmart for like 32 years of my life I just bought something from petco within the last month of my life I always went to Jack's aquarium or petland

This petco has a lot more types of plants ,my petco pretty much only sells Amazon plants lucky bamboo and the occasional stem plant species 😂

Petco wins by far. They have the most experienced staff and the better stock of fish. However, Petco sometimes has a lot of missing stock, but Petsmart is just okay when it comes to comparing to Petco. But I think it depends on the location and staff of the store.

I'm in New Brunswick, Canada you have "" PetCo"" and "" PetSmart "" well at least yours sell "Animals" lol We have "" PetValu "" don't know if there the same branchs but ours do not sell animals !!! We have 1 small PetStore for our fish but just for one Baby Pleco sell for 11.99$ CA !!!

Petco had goldfish I couldn't find at Petsmart. I've found nice fish at both, I think it's just a matter of timing. My Petsmart gets their fish in on Friday. I've found some nice goldfish. You just have to work with them. Petco by me has their goldfish in the large tank also, so it's kind of nice to see them in a large environment rather than all scrunched up in the tanks on the wall. Just my 2¢

Down here in Victoria Australia we have Pet Stock and Pet Barn very similar they have a small Aquarium section a bit of this and a bit of that. They all serve a purpose and do a good job. @@HaYNFishKeeper Hey Mate i live in Seaford Victoria which is down the bottom of the Mainland. Not a bad place live right next to Port Phillip Bay cool beach got a Creek and a River near me and a Swamp out the back. Would be good man if you could get down here and do a series👍👍.

Petco all the way! Like many people have said, the staff at petco offer better advice and help. They seem trained better. They also seem to have a wider selection. The only con is they are often low on stock. But they can put a order in for you.

PetSmart in my city has the best customer service. Every time I visit PetCo they never even acknowledge you being there. I am a hobbyist in a wheelchair and PetSmart even offers to take my fish purchases to the car for me. PetSmart gets my vote in Wooster, Ohio.

I only have one lfs in my area and let’s just say, it’s less than ideal. So I’m left with the box stores. And petco is the winner for me. Although, we do have a Pets Supplies Plus in town now and they aren’t too bad. Not a wide variety, but decent prices on what they do have. Just tell PetSmart that you’ve been kicked out of better places. Lol. 🤟🏼🤙🏼

Are you local to Yuba City? Besides my sister living there, I make trips down here and there from Chico just to go to Gaiser Pets. That's the best pet store around. Cool people too. Here the Petco is far superior to PetSmart. PetSmart has better selection of tanks, accessories, etc., but their fish are always in terrible condition and they don't care one bit. Petco on the other hand, they have come a long way in recent years. I'm actually sorta impressed. They were very busy one time, and I mentioned to an associate I noticed a spot or two of ich on a fish. He immediately stopped what he was doing, confirmed, dosed the tank, and marked them as NFS. PetSmart had the worst angelfish I have ever seen. Ich on top of ich on top of ich on top of ich. Might not have even been ich, but it was awful. I mentioned to a guy there, and he didn't give a crap at all. Tried to make a joke of it, and said it happens all the time. Said he didn't have time to do anything. Store was practically empty, and he wasn't really doing anything. Also, the Petco sometimes has some really cool angelfish. Every few trips, I spot a really unique marble, a high quality German blue blushers, high quality koi, or nice blue angel, or something else really not expected. And all for the same price of $5-10 depending.

Petco is much better in our area. Better quality and selection of fish. Supplies about the same in both. Better plant variety in Petco. Staff at Petco much more knowledgeable. I often have to do some educating of Pet Smart staff about the fish -- i.e. distinguishing between males and females. About the only time I go to PetSmart anymore is when someone gives me a gift card for it.

Hate both, had to watch my mom get given bad advice and taken advantage of from both. Plus the two in my area are bare when it comes to cool fish and plants selection. Luckily, my local fish club has helped me to see more variety.
