Ive recently started playing chess for the first time, ive learnt a few good openings (the Vienna game and the london system) and ive decided to show my disabled brother the basics of chess and thanks to your videos he has learned the basics of chess and ive been able to show him how to play better, i really appreciate how much effort you put into your videos, i like how you explain every single move in depth so everyone can have an idea at what both players are doing and how they can implement that into their own games. Much love man 🙏

(there are traps in this line) 3:25 = second best move after c3 which is Nf6 and what to do against it? Nf6 lines: - 4:14 = Nasty trap in the Nf6 line. - 6:34 = other lines with Nf6. - 7:23 = Another line with Nf6 with what to do against Qe7 pinning the pawn. 7:56 = What to do against the best move against c3, that is d5. 9:10 = Another nasty trap. I did see that instead of playing Qf3 instead of Nf3 and i followed similar principles and got a situation was black was entirely pushed back to the rank 8 which helped me checkmate. Looking forward to more onnthis opening on other variations please.

What an amazing video, thank you so much for posting this! I've only recently started playing and am currently at 720. I've played this opening against 1000 bots and explored a bunch of lines. It's fun and pretty powerful. I'm in the middle of my first online game and it's going well. One line you didn't really cover, and I haven't found much treatment of it by anyone else is ... 4. d4, Nxe4; 5. d5, Na5. I guess that's because there's no way for black to save the knight at that point? I pushed b4 which traps the knight. If Nc4 then Bxc4, if Nb3 then probably Qxb3, and of course going back to Nc6 is losing in the original position. Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone else is looking at this move.

I love watching, learning and laughing. You are a lot of fun. Thank you!
one thing ive picked up in response to the ponziani is not pawn to d5 for black but pawn to f5 because if they take (which many lower players do) you can kick the knight and suddenly black has the huge pawn center
I quite like the Ponziani. Nice to see it getting some attention. I’ve played it in 8 serious games, even ones that I was pushing for a win. Which, okay, that seems maybe slightly odd because the computer says that black can easily equalize. But I think that even with that, it’s not so easy to prove that black has anything, especially, in my opinion, if they play d5 and f6. Very often, you can just keep their king stuck in the center. I’ve had that happen multiple times in games online and OTB. Actually, the best game I ever played had that happen. I was white in the Ponziani against an IM, so I was lower rated than him at the time. I restricted his kingside development so much that he couldn’t castle kingside, and he had thrust almost all of his queenside pawns forward. They were overextended and castling queenside would have been a nightmare. I was threatening to bust open the center with his king still in it, so he had to play Kf7 and Kg8, completely blocking in his rook. In the chaos that ensued, I sacrificed a knight (couldn’t be taken), a rook (couldn’t be taken), then my queen (which could’ve been taken but wasn’t), then I forced my rook down his throat to deflect his off the d-file, and then I found an absolutely brutal queen sacrifice that led to a mate in 9 in which I would have sacrificed both knights. So I would have had a rook and a bishop left in the end position. Definitely the most complicated position I ever had. I’m just glad I navigated through all the chaos well. I’m going to actually include a line here that you didn’t mention. You went over the 3. …d5 lines. But with 3. …Nf6, black has an absolutely disgusting move that can get white into a lot of trouble. And, it’s completely engine backed. 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5, and here, black can actually just play 5. …Bc5. Am absolutely insane move. The continuation should go 6. dxc6 Bxf2+ 7. Ke2 Bb6 8. Qd5 Nf2 9. Rg1 O-O 10. cxb7 Bxb7 11. Qxb7 Qf6 12. Qd5…. You read all of that right. Black sacrifices not one, but two pieces to attack your king. And the computer says that this position is completely equal, meaning that black has proven that he has compensation for the two pieces. If you can stave off the attack, though, you will be completely winning. But it’s very difficult for both sides, because there are many situations where you have to find only moves. Very few people would actually find Bc5, but just tread lightly. The Ponziani can be a treacherous position for both sides. But, hey, if players like Ljubojevic ventured to play it against Karpov, it can’t be that bad.

Thank you for the video, but sadly for me, I was crushed by black's third move: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 f5. I played 4. d4 but soon after my queen was chased around, I was down in development, couldn't castle, and the list goes on. Still grateful for your contributions, keep it up!
Levvyyy i just tried this and it worked!!! mann you're amazing!!
Thanks a lot man you were very helpful!
I woke up on Jan. 1, 2023 with a burning desire to learn chess. I don't know why but I did. Gotham chess has helped me so much since then I can't even begin to explain. Now both of my kids are playing and it's benefited me tremendously in life and business. Thanks to Gotham for doing this channel.

That's funny, this is actually the opening I have been tending towards lately, but I see there was more to learn. Thanks :)
I was really hoping that this was ponziani, but definitely didn't think you were actually gonna loool this opening is so fun
I tried this twice today and the second time, dear god the amount of control I had over the board. Black moved their queen out early and I was able to just completely remove every safe square from her and take her and I felt *alive* and then I followed it up by blundering my queen diagonally adjacent to the enemy bishop Still won tho
Thank you! Can’t wait for every one of my opponents to use this opening against me!

Have you heard? Has anyone told you? The Rumor of the Invisible Girl, who did you hear it from? She was just a girl who nobody really notice, if someone said something to the girl, she would just give a vague smile. So little by little, everybody stops talking to her at all, thus making her increasingly transparent, until she was truly invisible. She could be around but no one notices her. No one talks to her, she's invisible as air. How unfortunate...

Levy, thank you for talking about the Ponziani, not many people talk about it since it's not a top level opening. Good Job on the video also
Man you are very passionate, good teacher! New sub!
After watching this video, I tried ponziani. I got mated in 8th move. I enjoyed it so much...

Leny thank you for this amazing video.
Great video. Thank you!
Time stamps. 0:50 = Starting 1:28 = why c3 1:50 = what if Bc5 after c3? 2:50 = what if d6 instead of Be5? (there are traps in this line) 3:25 = second best move after c3 which is Nf6 and what to do against it? Nf6 lines: - 4:14 = Nasty trap in the Nf6 line. - 6:34 = other lines with Nf6. - 7:23 = Another line with Nf6 with what to do against Qe7 pinning the pawn. 7:56 = What to do against the best move against c3, that is d5. 9:10 = Another nasty trap.
In this video Gotham was staring at us for 1.16 seconds
Exactly when I needed an opening with the white pieces! Thanks!
I started playing chess a month ago and someone asked if I was playing this opening because of your video. I was confused because it's the way I've been playing since I started either that or a bishops opening. But I was missing so many major moves I could have been doing. This video showed me so many more things I could do with it.

Thx, GothamChess. This opening works really well for me.
Thanks for this amazing video, Levy! I watched the video backwards and lost 500 Elo. I couldn’t have done it without you!

grand total of 505 elo now, thank you gotham
When I was finding my own white opening, I stumbled upon this one, and I use it. I didn't even know the theory of this, but all I knew was like big center = good. Thanks for the video, it helped me understand more benefits of this opening.
OMG. THIS IS SO HELPFUL. THANK YOU.
Today’s stare evoked in me a feeling of responsibility and soothed my soul. 11/10.
Thank you Levy. I was stuck at 3k for a while and then your video came out. It helped me to finally get to the 3500 rating and play as equals with stockfish.

Thank you for this. It works.
“Some of you would still find a way to lose with white” 😂
For people who are just starting to play chess, using chat gpt is good tool to basically help you speed run learning terminology and the need to know basics. Chess has a bit of an issue(its far from alone in this) where the most knowledgeable people are difficult elitist types. Its nice to have a machine you can ask all the questions, as a beginner there are no dumb questions. Then after feeling like you have better understanding, videos like these will mean a lot more to you.
