    My granddaddy was a scrap gold buyer and he used to send it to a refiner to turn them into mini bars or he’d melt the gold himself and turned them into rounds with our family crest on it. But he always told me collect gold no matter what shape it is

    Skip Gold Eagles. Premiums are insane. Buy the lowest premium gold coin you you can, that is recoqnized. Britannias, Maples, Queens Beast, Philo's are all better options than Eagles or Buffalos. At the end of the day, you are buying bullion.

    Good advice thank you. I do what you suggest, and buy the highest quality gold I can find for the lowest possible premium. The one piece to the equation that is actually an unknown is picking a product that will be easy to sell in the future. The best we can do is stick to products that are easy to sell now, but that is no guarantee that they will still be easy to sell at the point where we are looking to convert them back to cash. There are lots of different ways to invest in precious metals. My plan involves accumulating as much Bullion as I can and holding it for the long-haul. There are people who buy and sell gold the way daytraders churn stocks. Constantly buying when it's low and constantly selling when it's high. I accumulate bullion as a protector of wealth not a generator of income. If that works for them great. It isn't how I want to spend my time. Great channel keep up the good work.

    Premiums are so high right now for Eagles that I am buying mostly Phiharmonics and Maple Leafs. As you mentioned, I can't really afford to buy 1 once, so I am buying 1/4 coins. Again, the premiums are even more nuts for these fractional coins. So, I am slowing my purchases of both gold and silver until we have a significant dip in prices. I think, in the long run, it will still be worth it.

This year has been slow, becuase of the Covid, neighborhood sales were cancelled. Nearly every saturday I can buy silver jewelry for spot or less. Might use more gas, than I profit, but I call it suburban mining.... and usally a few times a year I get some gold cheap. Found gold for pennies on the dollar 5 of last 7 weeks. Biggest haul was only worth $150.00 melt after cost of 25 cents!!!!

I’m debating buying a 30gram Panda proof they got from the same seller, idk. They said if I buy all 3 Krugs they’ll be $20 over spot apiece, hell yes! Already had them remove them from display and put in safe with my name on them. Dates on the 3 are all in the 1970s, no BU but their numismatist said they’re in great shape and I’ll want them. Fractional depends. I avoid smaller then 1/10 oz. The extra premium is recovered at the sale. They are also way more liquid. Also avoid proof coins unless that is your thing.

    Word of warning. Check your state laws and regs. Some states (florida) require businesses to register sellers who sell things other than coins with the police dept. They also require the shop to hold onto these items for 30 days. So you will not get spot price if you try to sell. Bullion coins with a face value are exempt.

    A retail jeweller can put a 300% markup on the price of the gold jewellry they source from a manufacturing jeweller which obviously has added prices for fabrication and overheads. On the other hand, your fabricated item has artistic value which could be long lasting depending on the design/type and also practical value in being able to be used as jewellery, again depending on the design/type with changing tastes.

    Great presentation Silver Dragon but there is one point I would argue with. When buying one 0z gold bars or coins. I would always go for 24 carat, four 9999's. There are some dealers that will pay under if its 22 carat. Coins: Stick with the Maple, Britannia and Buffalo all 9999's. As for bars, same deal but stay with the usual faces. Pamp, Perth, Canadian, Metalor and Britannia.

    You're assuming that the premium instantly evaporates the moment the transaction is completed. This is a false assumption. However, if your only purpose is to accumulate gold for just the metal content and do not care how it looks, or if you expect to be selling it in a financial pinch/liquidity crunch as a savings strategy, then yes, higher premiums are bad. I think this should not be overlooked.

  • @MidwestCoinHunter

    @MidwestCoinHunter

    THIS! This gets overlooked all the time. Almost all videos talking about fractional being bad don’t seem to differentiate between preservation of personal wealth and investing for profit. When selling a fractional piece for profit the premium is typically returned (amount depending on who you’re selling too). My first gold purchase and second and third... and 20th were 1 gram bars. Back then I was buying them all day long for $45 each. I paid a premium but these days I could turn around and sell them today for almost double that. The people buying fractional are willing to pay the same premiums I did so I get my money back for that plus a profit on top of it. That’s investing. Fractional is great in my opinion for investing purposes considering there are far fewer people who can afford a full ounce of gold than those who can only afford a smaller fractional piece and because of that there will always be a market for the smaller pieces.
