I’ve heard the updates are making the game better. Hopefully we can get another update for it soon. Because I loved Asylum and City. They run pretty great. But Knight I’m still hesitant to try.

The Switch port of Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a miracle, and arguably more technically impressive than the other versions

Nintendo helped MS with the port, the issue with the OG was while it refreshed at 60Hz the animations were at 30. In the Switch version the animations were pushed up to 60, that is now known as the "Definitive Edition" and is the only version available to purchase on Steam. Another MS title Nintendo improved was "Super Lucky's Tale" for the Switch version which was previously a bit janky with a dodgy camera, the improved version was retitled: "New Super Lucky's Tale", both versions were on Gamepass and probably still are.

I'm surprised to hear Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 wasn't brought up. It's probably my favorite third party game on the system because it feels just as good to play it on Switch as it is to play on other consoles.

Have to disagree. It runs at 30fps, which hurts your ability to play at a high level. It's very hard to play after you get used to playing at a solid fps.

Fun fact: Dragon Quest 11 got a 3DS port. It's amazing with it's pixel graphics mode but sadly never got released outside of Japan

The Borderlands 2 switch port was alright, but then they updated it which caused it to LITERALLY be unplayable for a couple months which was insane.

when i bought the collection the games wouldn’t launch and i had to do a reset and update i think just to get it to launch. I reached out to 2k about it but i dont think they did anything to fix it😢

I don’t think any of them are great on Switch. It just runs kinda slow and feels like there’s input lag in them.

I’m still astounded that Nier: Automata works so well on switch. Yes it’s a 2017 game but the fact it’s so buttery smooth is crazy, 30 fps and stuttering in one super small area sure, but it runs amazingly

I beat both Doom 2016 and Eternal on switch, many times playing in handheld mode. It was fun, but I'm not 100% sure if it was worth the carpal tunnel syndrome

Persona 5 is genuinely an impressive port however there are some environments in that game that have the “switch Vaseline” on them (Leblanc at night is a good example) and it’s pretty obvious but still a good port.

I'm still blown away that the entire game dlc art and even concert footage is all one a 16gb cartridge I wonder if that's maybe why some of the textures aren't as high res because they wanted to keep load times fast and the overall file size down or if it really is a switch tech issue maybe both idk but I still absolutely LOVE this game and playing portably

@@ltb1345 runs great I’m talking visual/ load time compared to ps5 happy you haven’t but there are some circumstances obviously the PS five version is going to run better and looks better but it’s just a miracle that that game can run on the switch in a handheld mode. I recently had a really long flight and played it and noticed some things that were different to PS five version. I think it’s simply because I have way too many hours in the game but for what it’s worth your experience because it is a fantastic game.

We have to remember that the switch is just as powerful as a PS2 so the fact it’s running is a marvel in it of itself I’m happy it exists. Do not get me wrong. And then we get Frogun, which has low poly visuals, but runs at 30FPS at most, the PS4 and PC versions run at 60FPS, like why would the Switch version run worse than the higher end versions? It's not as graphically complex as Super Mario Odyssey. Like, does it have to with "spaghetti code"? And it uses Unity instead of a proprietary engine

@@mitchelanhalt5261 not op and i haven't paid any attention to the press around this game, but, it absolutely has some pretty horrendous lag when you typically come out of save zones. i think it's having trouble loading the map, i don't really understand why either, i can deal with it, but i totally get why others wouldn't. luckily i just bought it on sale as well, and having a great time playing despite the lag.

It crashed at the boss before last cutscene for me and then I had to skip that cutscene. And then at the very end after I beat the final boss almost right before credits were going to roll it crashed. I was like eff this lol. It crashed so much that part of the anxiety of the game was making sure you saved often in case it would.

I remember they messed up the pricing for Alan Wake on Switch for a little bit. I think it was in Mexico. The game was basically around $1.

Red Dead and Metroid Prime look great on the Switch.

Alien Isolation is the only title I know that looks better than on PS4. This is mainly due the better antialiasing that is clean, where PS4 is noisy.

Leaving aside the framerate, Dark souls remastered looks better on switch because the other versions ruined the aesthetics and lighting, unfortunately the switch version has noticeably lower sound quality and it's annoying.

@@nerotheyoung864 Well, it's more like the prepared to die PC version but it still fulfilled its purpose by being a remaster, improving the resolution of the textures and stabilizing the framerate in certain overloaded areas unlike the other versions that seem like a half-baked remake at 60fps, but it's a shame that the sound has the quality of a Nintendo DSI.

RDR1 on switch is perfect. Also fits very well to play on handheld due to the open nature of the game.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion on Switch looks and runs surprisingly well. Even through the game is still a psp game at its core, it still looks very good by modern standards. Some of the gameplay and cutscenes even look like they could be FF7 Remake or Rebirth gameplay as well.

I think what makes a bad port on Switch is a game on Switch that *should* be running great and look good, but it just doesn't somehow. I think that even that something like MK1 that is rough in areas, but is obviously punching above it's weight ten-fold for the system it's on. Something like WWE 2K18 and Alan Wake Remastered are games that should be running and looking just fine but just look awful because they didn't think about how to properly downscale it to Switch

How so? All three companies get their tech from the same set of companies, Nintendo just opted to use the older & cheaper ones & that were heavily modified them to work on something more a kin to a portable device. They could've made a console on par with the big boys, but something tells me that most people wouldn't pay a 1000 bucks to play Mario Party.

2 games that just makes absolutely no sense that they aren't on Switch are Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, both games that were on PS3 in Japan so it would be totally possible to get them on Switch at a stable framerate and they would sell great, but since RGG thinks mature games aren't appropiate for Switch they won't do it. I'm not even sure they will make them for Switch 2 at this point.

As someone who has never played the Fallout games, but occasionally loves to go through the YT essay rabbithole of Fallout videos and wish I had the ability to play on Switch. My original experience of Skyrim was handheld while binging Elder Scrolls videos and I really want to do that with Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

@@Boulder7685 you can get pretty cheap low end parts to build yourself a system capable of running those games easily, for reference I had a PC from 2007 with a core 2 duo and 8 GBs of RDR2 RAM, a hard drive, and a display adapter GPU and it ran it at like 40-60 fps just fine at medium settings and I was playing it back in 2019 for the first time so you probably could do better than I did for less

I never was able to get into The Witcher 3, but I found that I progressed much further on Switch than on the Xbox version. I think that portability really helped with that.

I don't know where Scott was during P5R release but I saw a lot of people actually caring about this game specially since the deck wasn't released yet so you had the definitive version of P5 on the go,not a bad port, weird that they lower the resolution below 720p but runs really well overall,I finished this 100% and had a blast

Don't get me wrong yes I'm sure some people were thrilled that the game was finally on switch but keep in mind that Joker was announced for Super Smash Bros. back in 2018 and the game that he originally came from didn't come out until late 2022. So it's fair to say that they sort of missed the boat on a potentially successful cross marketing campaign.

To me, it's that it can run Witcher 3 on essentially a portable console without exploding that's impressive.

I hate that Capcom didn't think of porting Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter X Tekken to the Switch.

They re-released UMvC3 for PS4 just a few months prior to the release of the Switch, though. Hell, they even released the Xbox One and PC versions the exact same month of Switch release, so it could have been a nice game to have on launch.

Reasons like this is why i'm glad i bought an OLED Steam Deck. We have access to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Street Fighter V, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 7, Tekken 8, Soul Calibur VI, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, Dead or Alive 6 but sadly Street Fighter X Tekken has been removed due to issues with installing (hopefully one day be sorted and added back on to Steam) And they all play perfect, just like if you was playing on a console.

True, one of my most played games on 3DS was Super Street Fighter IV, despite how graphically inferior it was to the console version, it was still comfortable to play. It seems like a waste to me that Capcom didn't make a port of Ultra Street Fighter IV for Switch.

For the longest time Doom 2016 and Eternal were the definitive console versions for me just because of gyro aiming. Now there is Steam Deck, which has extra buttons, gyro and can also run those games at 60fps with much better graphics, but those Switch ports are still absolutely fantastic. That’s how I managed to beat Eternal on Nightmare, something that would be near impossible for me without gyro on other consoles.

Doom 2016 was unbelievable. I got it at launch and it fully got me into the series. I've beaten every game multiple times now and own all of them on Switch. Mortal Kombat 11 was also an insane port, but the file size was a detriment for me. But, running at 60fps, and being far better than MK1 since it was only made for PS4/Xone, I played that shit in Calculus class with my friends and even my teacher. It was a fantastic version of MK on the go. Nier Automata is flawless. If you account for stability it can even be better than Xbox One or PS4. Especially even compared to Bayonetta 3's good-but-not-fantastic frame stability, fog, and resolution, it's the Switch's definitive hack and slash. Lastly, Alien Isolation is also fully better than any other console version. Graphically, considering anti aliasing it actually looks the best. Same graphical fidelity, lower resolution but better image quality with anti-aliasing actually having less jagged visuals than other systems. Doom Eternal is a miracle port. I think it is better than 2016 considering how much more it does with iD Tech, especially compared to the improvements to image quality over Wolfenstein II (which is decent on Switch). As someone who beat it several times on PC it is absolutely the full, great experience if you don't have another way to play it, or if you want it handheld. Lastly, the only port I didn't love was Witcher 3, but maybe I didn't like the game. I give it major props for the graphical update letting you basically implement different settings changes, and ESPECIALLY for using a 32GB card. But, especially considering it ran on Xbox One, I think it could have been better Lastly, Bloodstained on Switch was bad, then good, then an update in late 2022/2023 broke the game. Maybe it works again, but I literally could not boot it up in over 2 years. Portal 1/2, Diablo 2/3, and the Crash Bandicoot games are also great.

The Switch port of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy deserves a mention. It only contained the first game on cartridge and everything else required a 10gb download patch. Crash 4 on switch still ran okay but the Activision logo lags like crazy when booting it up

About THQ, americans arent really familiar with this series, but they also remastered the first 2 gothic games for switch and they're really good. Physically they're exclusive to europe tho I think cuz the series is super popular in eastern Europe, especially Poland. But it didnt ever really take off over there. Still I do recommend it

I played a Gex port once. It was the first time pinnacle of gaming.

These videos where you bring another creator friend on to talk about random topics are my favorite. It’s the closest we have to a Scott the Woz Podcast aka Wozcast. When you talked to Jon from GVG (formerly Nintendo Life) about PSP and handhelds that was a great episode. I put these on to start the day or to unwind at night. With the solo videos on Stash I only sometimes watch and it’s usually on a sleep playlist though I do enjoy them also. Basically what Im saying is I want more videos like these and happy to see them continue coming.

I loved Black Flag on the switch, was hoping for more ubisoft titles, watch dogs 1 and 2, and some far crys would be awesome, but at this point is just waiting for the next system

Some of my favorite ports are Persona 5 Royal, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, NieR automata, Doom 2016, Skyrim, Witcher 3, World War Z to name a few and my absolute biggest disappointment and worst one imo is Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 (I'm still so so SOOOOOOOOOO unbelievably heartbroken about that)

The way I originally played Sonic Colors was on switch. It wasn't as bad as people say. I played it on Wii later. The Wii version is better. I wouldn't not tell someone to play Sonic Colors Ultimate.

I also think Prince of Persia The Lost Crown was suprisingly alright on switch, yeah, here and there there were some weak textures, and at a few points the framerate dropped a little, but overall: that was a really good port, that mostly hold the 60 fps

I don't know about you guys but I'm excited to see Scott collaborate with Jon from Spawn Wave. IMO, Scott the Woz and Spawn Wave are two of the best video game channels on KZread. Thank you, Jon. Thank you, Scott.

Red Dead Redemption 1, Assassin Creed 4, and Asassin creed 2 runs amazingly on switch. Yeah, they originally PS3 games (and not ps4, like most of the titles here), but damn they perfect ports. Also Sniper Elite 4 runs very well on switch.

P5R ran amazingly. It just looked a little blurred. Nothing was super sharp but in handheld it was barely noticeable

It's weird seeing videos like this. I never even touch my switch anymore, the steam deck has totally changed how i game. Between emulation,pc ports, and constant steam sales, I spend less than ever and always have something to play.

_Persona 5: Royal_ and _Nier: Automata_ are fantastic on Switch! The _Ori_ games are also worth mention!

Doom 2016 on Switch was excellent. So happy they made it happen.

5:56 I completely forgot that WWE 2K18 released on the Switch. It was almost as bad as 2K20.

Kingdom Come Deliverance was a miracle port. Not the best graphically but holy shit smooth like butter.

WWE 2K18 on the Nintendo Switch was really rough. I had to jailbreak my original Nintendo Switch and overclock the hardware to see if it would affect game performance (entrances don't seem to be improved much, some iffy moments still happen in matches, but there were some improvements in gameplay).

While probably not the best Switch port but shoutout to Sonic Frontiers, I played the game on PS4 and recently my sister has been playing it on Switch and I often forget it's the Switch version because despite being quite a big game it runs fairly decently on the Switch, that Wyvern boss fight on the Switch quite impressive honestly.

Actually I think it's pretty impressive given the speed you can traverse the world. It works really well bc they used frameskip to keep it at 30fps, which nobody ever uses for some reason

It is impressive for sure but that said as someone who did play and finish the main story I I definitely felt like the game was so close to crashing or falling apart because of the constant pop in and the fact that everything looks so pixelated on screen.

@@GenerationZ313the pop in is less the switch’s fault and more the hedgehog engine not being able to handle open world

I wasn’t expecting Scarlet Nexus to get a mention here but I’m so happy it did. Probably my favourite game to come out of 2021 and my favourite memories of that summer, but for some reason it got forgotten really fast. I’d love to see that game come to the Switch and maybe add motion control options for the kinetic powers to make it interesting!

Unfortunately a lot of these games that have an anime inspired art style often can often have a homogeneous feel to them. Don't get me wrong I don't mind personally but for someone who is not into anime, it can be a bit hard to distinguish one game from another. Heck I even confused some franchises from time to time such as Tales of and the Trails series.

@@GenerationZ313 I feel that, though honestly SNX had quite a unique flair to it that stood out quite heavily from those. It really didn’t feel like anything I’d seen or played up to that point. That and even an anime adaptation that released right next to it, they really pushed this thing looking back 😅 I don’t think the visual style had anything to do with it though, I think 2021 was just a quieter year for games overall.

WWE 2K18 is my guilty pleasure game. The framerate is awful obviously, but it you know what settings to use and which matches are playable you can actually have some fun with it. IDK if it runs a bit better on the OLED compared to the V1 & V2 Switch but it looks great. That's part of the problem they tried to make it look too nice I think and the performance suffered greatly for that.

Outlast 1 and 2 are perfect on the Swtich. At least you mentioned Alien Isolation

Back during the Skylanders peak, the Wii version of Swap Force/Trap Team looked like absolute ass. Nice to see the tradition they started continue on the Switch

I actually liked the Switcher 3. Sure it’s HEAVILY compromised but its still the entire game of the Witcher 3. Plus, quality goes up during dialogues and cutscenes

Some good Switch ports: Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition which packages two games together for the price of one and Digimon World Next 0rder which didn't add much, but a run button is always a good thing.

Both of those are ports of PlayStation vita games so it makes sense that they run well on the switch

This would have been a really good video to show a running list or visual with box art of all the good and bad switch ports during or at end of video. Because it’s really hard to keep it all straight from this convo. But great convo!

I legit have over 400 hours on WWE2K18 on the switch, I’m not sure if it’s Stockholm syndrome but it’s enjoyable I’m just waiting on the next switch for a decent wwe game 😭

MK11 on Switch was a component port. Not perfect and is behind the other console and PC versions, but it works and that is what matters (it retains 60fps in combat so yeah)..... heck, I would say the MK1 port could've been the same way had it not been rushed out underbaked

The Switch handles two Fighters well (MK 11) at 60fps; but summoning the Tag Team fighter (MK 1) always breaks the frame rate on switch.

The summary I've seen of the Skyrim Anniversary Edition issues is that the DLC and mods that were included in AE were not correctly integrated, resulting in a massive persistent resource strain on the game's performance. The issue was identified very shortly after launch by a team of Switch modders, who found that removing the DLC/mods fixed the game's performance. The code was allegedly so poorly optimized for adding mods that installing 75 completely empty mod files would result in the same performance drops.

I think the more recent switch ports are less impressive than ports a few years back because most of the developers/publishers know the switch is on its way out and a successor has been around the corner for a bit now so I think it's a why waste time and money situation where developers are trying to tighten their belts so to speak

To me, Doom Eternal and Witcher 3 are the most miraculous ones. And Hellblade and Alien Isolation as well.

A cool part about the Witcher 3 port is that you can port your Steam/GOG save file via cloud. And get some cool stuff as well.

How do you think this video compares to the previous ones?

I first experienced the Metal Gear Solid franchise on Switch. I've heard some say that the Master Collection didn't live up to previous versions, but I didnt have any issues. I'm gonna start my third playthrough of MGS3 next week.

Witcher on the switch is amazing & the fact they added some pc graphic options like motion blur, light shaft, foliage visibility is something I never thought would see & impressive the switch can handle that. I wish more switch games had that.

For some reason I LOVED Borderlands 2 on Vita. It was my first game in the series. Somehow its limitations are charming and at the time it was so impressive. It wasn’t until years later I saw it running at 60fps with higher detail and textures and less glitches and I was blown away by what I had been missing but oddly I didnt feel the need to upgrade. Borderlands 2 is a great game for portable play because like Skyrim you can pick up anywhere and there’s always something to do, places to go and explore, waypoints and quest trackers make it easy, you dont need the story to know what to do. Even with a game like Zelda TotK and BotW there’s a certain attention I need for puzzle solving and memorizing places that makes it just a bit too in depth for me to really enjoy on the go or for pick up and play. With those Zelda games (some of my favorite) I like playing handheld or docked AT HOME or somewhere for at least an hour. For Borderlands, Skyrim, GTA trilogy, and a handful of other games they just work perfectly for handheld and home gameplay. I’d also add Fallout 4 to that list. I’ve wished for a Fallout game on Switch since launch and unfortunately all we got was the Outer Worlds which was fun but pretty compromised on Switch especially with long and frequent load times and frame stutters/inconsistent frame rate. I hope the next Nintendo console gets Fallout games including Fallout 4 (personal favorite dont @ me) and New Vegas along with any other Fallout games. I think Fallout 4 just wouldn’t work great on Switch but their next system needs Fallout and HOPEFULLY maybe…probably not….but possibly Red Dead Redemption 2. My question is will GTA6 be able to play on Nintendo Switch 2 NATIVELY….or at all? Nintendo missing the boat on GTA6 would be a HUGE miss not just for that game but for the future of this generation - it would cement that their new console is still stuck several generations in the past and it would say to me that the Switch 2 again will not even be close to keeping up with current gen standards. It says a lot that most Nintendo fans are JUST hoping for 60fps and full 1080p POSSIBILITY of being a more regular occurrence. Ok it’s way too late and im rambling goodnight.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is really good on the Switch. It makes me wish we got Far Cry 3/ Blood Dragon.

AC4 is perfect on switch. The port was very well made to handheld play as well, by giving better UI for the small screen. Not to mention that AC4 is amazing game on its own.

@@jasonking3182 It’s available on the PS Store you can get it for free if you have the PS+ Extra tier subscription 👍 for Xbox it might be available on their store or gamepass too but I don’t know for sure.

The power to Performance Gap is shrinking more and more and eventually there will be no need for dedicated gpus outside a full reality simulation.
