The NFL Combine gives prospects a great chance to enhance their value ahead of the draft. At the same time, the combine is a place where many notable talents struggle, often hurting their draft value.
Of course, some players who aced the combine didn’t end up performing well at the NFL level, while others who struggled miserably went on to show that the combine doesn’t always define how your career will play out.
Here is a look at the 5 worst and the 5 best NFL combine performances of all time.

The combine is a gauge of pure athletic ability, but it can't tell you how a player will actually perform in-game. You kind of have to take the combine results with a grain of salt. Tom Brady had one of the worst combine performances of all time.

The combine is almost pure entertainment. Sure, you want to make sure your guy is in good shape but what you've seen him do on the field says a lot more than some numbers at the combine. The combine also cannot measure "heart" or intangibles. It's interesting to watch but people get caught up in the numbers. People compare a 4:52 to a 4:42 like it's a big deal. Really? Yeah, in the Olympics or other track and field competition it is important but not so much on the football field. It's a tenth of a second in a non game situation. The smarter teams know what is important and that's why some teams are known to be better all around drafters than others. But hey, it really is a lot of fun to watch these amazing athletes put on the performances that most of them do.

players like Brady, Hayward-Bay, and Suggs prove the combine is a pointless event. the best, and only, way to evaluate prospects is game film. taking a receiver in top 10 or instantly moving him up into first rd or top 5-10 purely on speed, is ludicrous. how do teams not consider game tape enough? there’s receivers that are terrible route runners, avg hands, bad at separation from press coverage, bad run blocking, low IQ,etc and still get picked top ten because they ran a 4.3. as if speed takes care of all those weaknesses. it’s not just speed that makes GMs get excited and pull the trigger early either

  • @isaiahayers1550

The Combine has its place. Game film should always be number one - and it is - but sometimes you see guys play in college and have a hard time determining just how fast they are, which matters, how strong they are, which matters, and how agile they are. It should definitely account for like 15-20% of a players evaluation. Game film and work ethic should be the rest.
