    What I like about A24 is they aren’t interested in making sequels. They give small directors a platform to show their work and maybe make it big in the future.

    Tusk was actually kind of interesting because I went from hating the main guy and itching to see him get fucked up by the old guy, but then that just went like “oh, oh, OH. OK. OK. I THINK THATS ENOUGH. OK. TOO FAR.” And then rooting for his escape. Like it wasn’t an masterpiece at all but it definitely surprised me and I had a good time watching it.

    Midsommar is one of the few horror/thriller films I’ve watched that stayed on my mind for a couple of weeks. It was just such an odd experience and was truly surreal. I’d hold it as one of my favourite horror films for many reasons, whether it be the gore, the seemingly idyllic/utopian cult ground, the fact it’s primarily shot in daytime as well as having a vibrant colour palette, the good acting and mostly normal reactions of the victims. Not a perfect film, but a very good one in my eyes

    I guess it wasn’t terrible but I just felt like the entire time I already knew what the outcome of the movie was going to be. It didn’t challenge me in any way. It just felt too forced, like “here’s these people and you’re supposed to be creeped out by them and you know they’re going to do something bad in the end” but visually I guess it was kinda neat

  • @La_Horca

    @La_Horca

    Жыл бұрын

    @@sabrinatscha2554 Damn for me the whole horror came from knowing that they were getting into a dangerous place that looked bright and colorful, i wanted to know what would be catalyst for the horror to begin and the fact that i didn't know the cult's plan, was constant suspense. So psychological and so well done. The outcome is really uncertain for Dani and Christian, actually, i didn't suppose that Dani was going to be the Queen of May until she asked what it was, and i didn't know if she was still in danger... maybe she was going to be sacrificed or tortured while the actual outcome came from a lot of manipulation and again, that's how you make suspense. Also, after every characters' main actions, you know that the consequences will be disturbing. The whole movie is giving you some directions but at the same time is confusing you and the characters constantly. I think the movie doesn't commit serious mistakes but it has some interesting choices that some viewers will dislike. The movie is outstanding nonetheless.

    i went on an A24 trailer binge one night, and was super intrigued by the trailer for Tusk. i had never heard of it, just looked like a complete shitpost of a movie. the premise was weird, the motivations were stupid, the jokes were repetitive. but i can't lie, it freaked me out a little. it's depressing that they made it so comedic cause it's SUCH an unironically terrifying premise. They nailed the suit, and the acting was pretty alright, but there was so much lost potential there. the thought of keeping your sanity while slowly turning into that thing is so genuinely horrifying, but wallace is such a douche that you dont feel that bad for him. and they just make it completely comedic and play everything for a cheap joke. frustrating

    The Monster worked for me because I resonated with the abusive relationship Lizzie had with her mother. I’m sure this is the obvious take away here but the monster could have been anything or anyone, all that matters is that it is about to tear a family apart, literally and figuratively. And despite what goes on behind closed doors, that primitive survival and protection of your child speaks volumes of how unconditional love is sometimes. Take away my personal resonance and it’s just a fun creature feature, I think the tension is always present and the threat and paranoia are constantly amping up to a nasty 11, we’ve all been stuck somewhere before and I was just completely immersed. It’s so fun to watch these characters go through this emotional journey in a subgenre that normally wouldn’t focus on that.

    I think it’s so crazy how different every horror movie a24 puts out is. Hereditary, Midsommar, Green Room, and killing of a sacred deer are some of my favorites however the lighthouse, the witch, and it comes at night are movies I didn’t hate but would definitely never watch again. And even outside horror they’ve made uncut gems and moonlight which are masterpieces in their own right. I’m probably forgetting a few other notable ones but this disparity with a24 is astounding to me

    Regarding to the Lighthouse: I think Eggers stated in an Interview, this is what would happen if the two Protagonists, who represent Protheus (Dafoe) and Prometheus (Pattinson) were forced to hang out on this Island . I watched it with several people and the Reactions were too differnt. Simple Minds are just amused by farting and dry humping, some couldn't comprehend the deeper meaning and just saw the conflict between young and old. And then there is my fathers reaction, who blazed a phatty and fell asleep in the first half, because he is more of an Action Movie kinda Guy, and he ain't no sucker for these 'slow burner' Horror Movies. It is similiar to 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer' which also uses greek mythology to tell the story. If you just a person, that enjoys a movie and do not read up the meaning behind that, these movies are not ment for you. It is not like conjuring or It, the horror is subtle and psychologically, not like a monster here, a boo there. A24 has its nische and they represent a certain type of genre.

    Great video.. I feel the Hole in the Ground review is... a bit lacking though. I mean, the movie is no masterpiece by any definition of the word, but it has a lot more to say and works a lot better than the review makes it seem. I kinda feels like the guy watched it once, decided it was shit and went on pointing out how the inner logic of the movie is weird rather than trying to look deeper into it... even though it's essentially a heavily metaphorical story... Not saying the review is invalid because of it, I just feel there's more to the movie than 'oh there's a hole but no one sees it??? it's like so bigggg though??? whaaaaaat?' like... ok?

    @@foxidermyvaughan4457 Exactly. Honestly it just struck me as someone who watched it, didn't like it for whatever reason, and decided that for that reason alone it had no value or nothing to say. I mean, I'm very neutral towards this movie, but I know the movie is much more interesting and makes a lot more sense than this reviewer seems to think.

    I disagree Scrabbl was the weakest. He didn’t even pay attention to the film, which is why his film analysis was pretty garbage. And I thought the film was nothing special. BUT… Before the mom confronts the kid she puts sleeping medication into the food which is why he falls asleep next to her. There was an entire scene showing this. Which means he was probably on his phone or not engaged. He didn’t even do research on the folklore of the film.

    @@PauseFilms It wasn't specifically shown how she put the meds into the food, it was only implied when the empty box was shown in the trash, which yeah went over my head. But tbf I was taking notes the entire time and probably missed the part, or didn't get what it meant when watching. This doesn't change my opinion of the movie in the slightest. It's still a subaverage movie imo. I admit my part wasn't even an analysis of the movie. Because I didn't like the movie, I decided that it would be best to just do something entertaining instead of going into details and analyse why I didn't like the movie. That's not what my part is. But I can see how, being in a video with so many great movie analyses, my part would appear as a low-effort attempt at achieving what the others did. If I'd ended up liking the movie, I would have taken a more serious approach. I didn't do any further research, because it wouldn't have changed my view on the movie and there would be no point in doing so. My part is just supposed to be silly and entertaining, nothing more and nothing less. Thanks for the feedback

    I don't find horror movies scary, but I do enjoy A24 films. ( I have a disassociation disorder so I never forget that movies are not real and cane not be emerged in them) Under the Skin is in my eyes amazing. I saw it once when it came out. But think about it at least once a week.

    I remember watching the vvitch in a discord call with some friends. Everyone fucking hated that film, myself included. But credit where credit is due, we didn't stop talking about that film for a solid month because of how good the production was. A24 has that special touch where you might not like what you see, but your going to remember what you saw.
