Lol, once I realized it was Worn-Tin I was looking for, and not Warren Tin (with the aid of a commenter) I REALLY dug that album. I also like the Lemon Twigs, Vampire Weekend, heard Tim Bernardes 2022 album, but want to check out the Chico Bernardes. The Nolan Potter also sounds interesting with the rest to catch up on. Great upload.

Wow, loved the Nolan Potter album (listened to it right after) -- 4.5. In this quarter, I also (and quite unexpectedly) love "Radical Optimism" by Dua Lipa also at 4.5 -- didn't see that coming at all. Best of the bunch (but I don't listen to anywhere near as much as you do) is Vampire Weekend's 5.0!

Jason and Joe, I've been listening to some of the interviews Geezer Butler has been doing promoting his new book. He has a lot of great stories being in Black Sabbath and I recommend listening to some of them. He's a very articulate guy. I thought of you, Jason, when he mentioned in one of them how disappointed he and Tony were in Rick Rubin's production on the final album. When asked if they'd ever work with Rubin again, Butler gave a blunt "nope."

My 20 favorite records released from early April to the end of June. They are evenly split between aggressive albums and lighter/poppier ones: Thou - Umbilical (sludge metal; my favorite from this second quarter - it surely won’t appeal to 98% of TLM’s audience, but it’s as direct and accessible as the genre gets) Umbra Vitae - Light of Death (metalcore; features Jacob Bannon of Converge fame) High on Fire - Cometh the Storm (stoner metal) Knocked Loose - You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To (metalcore) Inter Arma - New Heaven (melodic black metal) Vredehammer - God Slayer (death metal) Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God (technical death metal) Ekko Astral - Pink Balloons (post-hardcore) Lip Critic - Hex Dealer (post-punk) Mdou Moctar - Funeral for Justice (psych rock) And the lighter fare: Joanna Wang - Hotel La Rut (art pop; the only discovery I’ve made from the Fantano universe so far in 2024) Shannon and the Clams - The Moon Is in the Way (indie/psych pop) Redd Kross - Redd Kross (power pop) Pillow Queens - Name Your Sorrow (indie rock; solidly constructed album…but not 5 stars) Iglooghost - Tidal Memory Exo (electronica) Iron & Wine - Light Verse (indie folk; his best album in 17 years) The Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again (folk rock; their best in 14 years) Charley Crockett - $10 Cowboy (country) Adeem the Artist - Anniversary (alt. country) Camera Obscura - Look to the East, Look to the West (indie pop)

Respect for that Charli pic. After seeing the stylez this video went for I would have been miiiighty disappointed if it was on neither of your lists. It does get better with every listen, I’ve found that too. It’s so consistently good. Album of year so far. You are of course wrong about one thing though, as Pop 2 is her greatest album, and a pop masterpiece. But I would say this is probably her *second* best, which is no mean feat given her catalogue. Give How I’m feeling now a listen too, as it has some similar vibes, though Brat is a bit more restrained.

So far I'm enjoying The Last Dinner Party the most - they are sooo good - but appreciated Nolan Potter in this batch. Mdou Moctar are great and may be inventing a new genre: world rock. Eric Slick has a nice 80s style video that was fun to watch. Steve Martin said that you can't play a sad song with a banjo, but he never played alongside Tracyanne Campbell. And speaking of sad, Vampire Weekend endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2020 ( best Sanders video with Jack White titled Trump's Worst Nightmare still on youtube, like a fossilized wish image ) but this week, after Biden crawled his way through the debate with the now prosecution-immune former president, Sanders said: "One bad night should not erase a very strong record." Did the Lemon Twigs put out a strong record? Some believe so.

Yeah Brat was kind of interesting that way, the first time I listened to it I kind of wrote it off and thought Fantano was full of shit and I only liked a few songs but of all the albums I listened to so far this is the one I kept going back to the most. And now I like over half the album like von Dutch, 365, sympathy is a knife, B2b, club classics sometimes, talk talk, mean girls sometimes, and maybe like a couple others, anyways they are in my playlist for sure. There are still a few tracks that don’t do much musically for me but add to the concept or overall theme of brat, so I suppose I can see why Anthony gave it a 10 but I don’t think I can go there. Definitely by far the best pop album this year though, or maybe you are right the best in a while, atleast the best pop album since the past few years. Worth the hype? Well maybe🤷‍♂️😀for the most part anyways as far as club classics goes. Yeah probably my favourite from Charlie and I’m glad she didn’t lean to much into hyper pop which I’m also not a fan of(except 100 gecs, I know they are obnoxious but man they hurt my head in the best of ways…..please send help!)

Allegedly, these are your favourite pieces of musical ‘art’ of 2024 so far !!! Yet, you cannot raise one iota, a semblance or even a single atom of ecstatic enthusiasm for any of them !! 😢 ‘If’ you truly enjoyed them, how about telling your staid, weary faces !!! If the glory of true music appreciation causes you so much joyless angst, please stop. Modern music is, at best, deep state remedial madness contrived to further retard the masses, So, the music business today, is exactly and only that. Therefore, as an art form, music may not be dead, but, it’s FIGHTING FOR ITS LIFE !!!!!

Vroom, Vroom … after listening to ‘BRAT’ Allie X is still the reigning synth pop/dance queen of 2024 with ‘Girl With No Face’ Better lyrics, better beats, better hooks. “Hail Satan, at least he keeps a promise. Big Brother’s always out of office.” - Weird World “Oh, what a shame Don't you agree? Wasting your time sleeping on me” - You Slept On Me

@SomeSong2 the songs aren't quite as instantly grabbing as On All Fours, but the overall album flow builds a great atmosphere/mood. After the first 2 singles came out, I was a bit concerned I wouldn't like the album as they sounded more like their debut than On All Fours. Fortunately, they really seemed to put some of the rawness of debut into what they learned/created with On All Fours, mixed a lot of other elements to create something on a different level. It is one that definitely takes a few listens to start getting.
