The BEST 50mm Lens You Can Buy! || Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM Lens Review

Ғылым және технология

If there is one lens in the Sony E-mount system that is designed to impress, it would have to be the 50mm f/1.2 GM. But this lens is not without its faults, such as being on the larger and heavier side. And although it's a showpiece lens, it additionally comes with a showpiece price point. So, do you really need f1.2?
In this lens review, I'll discuss my experience owning and using the 50mm f/1.2 GM, covering all of the lens' main specifications and features. Yet beyond this, I'll cover the various situations I use the lens for - whether on the photography side, and from a videography perspective as well. This includes evaluating real-world samples from portrait shoots, weddings, concerts, interviews, and more, while also evaluating the lens' various characteristics - from sharpness, to autofocus performance, bokeh, and more. Last, I'll discuss price in comparison to some other popular 50mm offerings from Sony, and give my final take on the lens.
Overall, the 50mm f1.2 GM remains a shining example of the best that Sony can do with its prime lenses, and whether I truly needed f/1.2 or not, I have no regrets in picking up what is arguably Son'y best prime lens.

Excellent review- thanks! I use both the 1.2 GM and the Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm f1.8 and won't let go of either. They somehow fit different niches that I just can't live without.

The 50mm 1.2 GM is in a different level. Probably the sharpest GM lens out there.

Yeah, it's definitely the sharpest I've seen of the GMs so far.

It’s a great lens. I half want to sell it and put the money towards a telephoto, but I know I’d regret it.

For sure, it's also pretty useful in APS-C crop mode (e.g. 75mm gets you into the telephoto range).

1.4? Lighter with almost all similar specs?

Pretty much - it's another great option for sure, especially if you don't need f1.2.

LOL - the depth of field at 1.2 on a 50 is very shallow. You won't be using it in the way he describes.

Get some distance on your subject, and it's not nearly as shallow as you think.
