The best 25 Amiga games ever!!!

Ойындар

The Retro games LTD Amiga A500 mini is nearly upon us, what are the games you are most looking forward to playing?
Here are my top 25 that I can’t wait to play, what would you have left out and what would you have put in instead?
THEA500® Mini
Now other classic consoles are just toys!
25 Amiga classics, including Worms, The Chaos Engine, Another World & Simon The Sorcerer all feature on the THEA500® Mini
Continuing the popular line of timeless classic consoles being given a new lease of life, today Retro Games announces the creation of THEA500® Mini, a fully licensed reimagining of the much-loved 16-bit home computer starring a plethora of classic Amiga games.
Due early 2022, THEA500® Mini is a homage to the 1980s heyday of 16-bit personal computing; inspired by the 1987 release of the Amiga 500, which featured a 16/32-bit CPU, 512Kb of RAM and an array of custom chips for producing best-in-class sound and video.
Play one of the included 25 classic Amiga games, selected from a simple to use carousel, including all-time greats Another World, Simon The Sorcerer, The Chaos Engine and Worms. Or side-load your own games via USB stick with full WHDLoad support and an array of options to choose from. Plus, save and resume your game at any time to help you finish those punishingly-difficult classics.
Developed by Retro Games Ltd. and distributed by Koch Media, the THEA500® Mini features the perfect emulation of, not only, the original A500 (OCS) and Enhanced Chip Set (ECS) of future revisions, but also the Advanced Graphics Architecture (AGA) of the A1200.
The THEA500® Mini comes with the original style 2-button mouse and newly engineered 8-button precision gamepad, allowing you to choose your control method. To compliment the on-screen keyboard, you can plug in an external standard PC keyboard for additional functionality.
"In this initial mini version of THEA500®, we have created what we believe gaming fans will love, and will see as the evolution of mini games consoles", said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at Retro Games.
"Retro Games have developed a truly unique product", said Debbie Bestwick MBE, CEO at Team 17, "and I'm very excited to have our classic games represented in all their original glory".
THEA500® Mini will hit the shops in early 2022 with a suggested retail price of GBP£119.99/ EUR€129.99/ USD$139.99/ AUD$199.99

Really not trying to be 'that guy' but I never could see the appeal of the Amiga other than for those getting cheap pirated games from market stalls back in the 90's (which is made all the more strange as stalls down the same markets also done swap a game plus a fiver for Megadrive and SNES games also). Also seemed that an awful lot of Amiga games didn't have any in game music either as it seemed to be either music OR sound FX but not both running at the same time. I never grew up with an Amiga but was aware of it. I also never grew up with the P.C Engine but was impressed with the recent P.C Engine Coregrafx mini as it clearly redefined what I thought old school shmups were all about. I was a Megadrive kid growing up. The Megadrive also had The Chaos Engine and Speedball 2, so why would anyone bother with an Amiga? Considering what I've just said about the Amiga's only real USP in the 90's it's also Ironic that the type of kids that had an Amiga back then were also the type of kids that did well at maths and were probably going to grow up to become accountants, bookkeepers or estate agents etc but seemingly couldn't care less about indulging in software piracy. 😂😂🤦

A good list, and everything is personal taste, but it's missing some absolute blinders - Hired Guns (one of the few games which you could actually have 4 players on one machine), SWIV (not sure how you can have banshee, but not this one), project X, pinball dreams/fantasies, Lotus Turbo Esprit challenge 2, superfrog, alien breed, Eye of the beholder......and many more. SWOS at the top is fair enough - I can remember all the PC boys were absolutely desperate for that game, but the simple fact was that the PC couldn't handle the scrolling anywhere near as well as the amiga (only when things were on the verge of going over to 'Pentium' did it reach the speed of the Amiga - I had a 486 DX4 75Mhz laptop which was ok to play SWOS on, but the Amiga was still smoother). I would put speedball 2 as a very close second as that had a very special place in my gaming history. I met some of the bitmap brothers at an Earl's court computer show, after we had held a tournament in my home town (which they gracefully sent us some merchandise for, to offer as prizes). Many many years later, purely by chance, I was also picked out as a game tester for an attempt to do a 3D version of the game (on PC).........it was promising, but just didn't play very well. Really nice to see Wings on the list though - absolutely loved that game and it still stands out in my mind as one of the most complete gaming experiences of the time (the 3 different game modes, the snippets of story and history and not least the documentation that came in the box :-))

Was surprised that Napalm: The Crimson Crisis wasn't on here... that game was a monster of a game. But I think it did require RTG graphics and not everyone had it. Bloodwych (and its Data disk) were the foundations of Dungeon Crawlers imho Dune 2, was also great. Hired Guns, could have been more popular if only you could team up with people over the net with it. I know its more than one game, but the "Treasures Of Infocom" had 20 classic text adventures and as a set that was probably the best buy I ever made of an Amiga game. :D

@@Retro_B8 I've narrowed it down to my top 10, if I had your skills I'd make a video about how great these were. Forgot about Populous and its sequel, that's a must have. While Speedball 2 deserves its place, people often forget about its predecessor which was also a great game. Notable omissions are any Cinemaware games, they were all very good, Megalomania, and The Secret of Monkey Island which is still the funniest game I've ever played. But anyway, these are the games I played and loved the most: Populous II Supercars II Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge Speedball 2 Paradroid ‘90 Robocop The Chaos Engine Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker Carrier Command F1GP

Never really liked any horizontal shmups, only played Nemesis, Salamander and Vulcan Venture and they never got converted. Lionheart and Soccer Kid are two really impressive A500 games too. Unreal dragon flying sections was a very awesome bit of Sega style 3D on Amiga 500 too. Speedball II and Battle Squadron were great 2 player games I played with my cousin. @@Retro_B8 Correct! Your list is one of the best top 25 Amiga Games I know. But there are some other lists out there with also just exellent picks and a lot of other games, that are equally good. It´s so hard to say which are "the real best 25 Amiga games". Let´s say there are about 100 Amiga games that are absolut classics. Some of them belong for me in the list of the best 100 games of all time, but with the exception of Monkey Island, you wouldn't find them anywhere. Similar fate with a lot of games of the "Home-Computer-Era. So many classics, and just freaks like us remember them. LN3 was quite the same on the Amiga and the C=64, but of course the graphics were much better on the Amiga. A classic game nontheless.

That said, I hate the Megablast soundtrack! :D I know, I know, I guess everyone can skewer me now, (or later) for that comment. Here's the thing. I'm an absolute electronic music junkie. I've listened to, and made electronic and chip tunes since the 80s. I spent the 90s at raves and clubs. I've spent the last decade and a few odd years designing modular analog synthesizers. (you can see them in my channel if interested :D ) Love house, techno, industrial, breakbeat, acid, drum and bass, (especially real midwest or german techno though). I have just never been able to get into Megablast though, especially for an entire game. :D Now Chaos Engine, THAT is an electronic soundtrack. ;) Anyway... Nice video, and nice list!

The funny thing is, in later years with the Playstation/Xbox range & their massive increases in graphical sophistication, games just never had that same magic they had when they were simpler and more abstract in the 8-bit era... Well, text adventures were an acquired taste, even at the time. I liked them a lot - but, frankly, The Pawn was the only one I ever finished. So of the 25 games you listed, 16 have never interested me on a personal level. And who in their right mind ranks zool over superfrog anyways? It’s certainly on my list to play now of course!
