The Benjamin Franklin Effect | The Science of Love
Ойын-сауық
In order for a relationship to be successful, both partners need to feel invested. This theory was proven by the one and only Benjamin Franklin, who stated that the more time, effort, or work you put towards a person, the more you're personally investing in them and the more you want it to work out. In this episode, we put real couples to the test to show you how it works.

This experiment gives a mind-blowing insight into the mind of teenage fangirls that fawn over famous boybands etc. They invest SO much time and effort into these people that of course their love for these people grows, and some are often surprised when they meet their celebrity love and the said celebrity doesn't instantly feel the same about them. It's because they've never been INVESTED in the fan their meeting. They haven't spend time pondering over them, among other obvious things such as initial attraction towards the fan etc. This video has helped me make sense of that and the mind of fangirls in that way so THANKS soul pancake, you're the best

Thank you! We really love hearing that. :)
I call it mutuality rule. It's not only about contributing to the happiness of your partner, but it's also about respect, gratitude, care, freedom, rights, and almost everything. One-sided things won't work in marriage. They got to be mutual.
Love should always be mutual--and when it is not it should always be thoughtful. To love another and not be loved back is still a wondrous thing: no person chooses how or who they feel for and this type of feeling should always be said and expressed for it is always worth saying and expressing. All I desire in this life is for us to face the truths of our reality, our mortality, and our humanity for all that it is--so that we may become the truest humans possible. I talk about philosophy and societal topics that pertain to this endeavor. That is all, no more no less. May we always progress and may we never stop learning from each other. Good day to you all :)

That´s great. Well said, have a great day sir.
im on a feeling spree with soulpancake
damn this is the mistake i always make. i invest so much and get hurt when the other person isn't willing to invest anything. if i say that i am unhappy because they are not contributing, then i am made out to be the bad guy. i always get stuck with non-committal jerks that think its OK to take advantage of someones heart.

signiturelady Next time let us men be the one who does most of the planning of the dates. He should be the one calling you first early in the relationship. You do let the man play for the movie, concert and meal right? You need to enjoy your status as the lady in the relationship, but don't go overboard with it.Oh wait you're probably the last woman I should say that to.:)

Big facts
Thank you Julian, and everyone who were a part of this series to make it happen. Because of this video and others in the series, I chose to let someone know how i really felt about him. I was suuuuper scared; I was afraid he would never write to me again, or he'd say he only wanted to be friends but then our relationship would turn super awkward and crumble to dust. Or the world would explode, or something. But now i'm sooo exciiited! Because it turns out he loves me too!!!
The science of love videos always make me cry. Seeing people express their love through action is beautiful. So heartwarming. I fully support SoulPancake and their efforts to make a better & happier world. Seriously, keep up the good work.
I can't get enough of these videos. They always inspire me every time. Thank you!
This was sincerely very helpful to me. It was a really beautiful video, and one day I hope to be like that couple about to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary ☺
These videos keep continuing on making me believe in love. Plus Julian is the best host ever!
Everyone who is considering entering a relationship should watch this first! Great stuff. Thank you.
I love these types of videos that make me realize the simple things. In my past relationship I never let my other half contribute and would always insist on paying things but I learned my lesson after watching this. Thank you Julian you really are a good guy and hope you find the love you deserve. :)
As always, a LOVEly episode
There were plenty of comments complaining about the legitimacy of the "experiment" and it's important to recognize these videos don't believe they have solidly and flawlessly proven anything. I think it's to get people thinking by using cutesy psuedo-science techniques to get a positive idea out into the world. I Love these videos! Very inspiring and motivating.
I love the science of love videos! Keep them coming!
I love this series for the little nuggets of how to be loving and see it shown!
Ho-ly-shit ..... This is why me and my gf weren't working out ... I put in all the effort, I always picked her up, payed the bills, I did everything...
Love this series. All these heartwarming stories keeps me believing in love 💖💖

Hola
This makes sense. Relationships are all about give and take. If one person doesn't do anything to build the relationship they won't see it as important and valuable.
Awww 35th wedding anniversary, love that couple!
These videos are just plain lovely!
You guys are my heroes. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity!
I love this series, but I couldn't help but point out that you were in the videos at the Nvidia booth at PAX east! It was cool! But seriously, this is the coolest series along with the happiness series, so keep it up :D!
I love your videos guys ! thank you !
I actually have been rejected and cheated on many times, and now I actually understand why. (I give too much and don't receive enough)
This video is beautiful!
This show Make me more happy every episode. I dont have a study on that, but I can say its true
I love these videos!
I'm loving this series :) And just realize that I could possibly not be letting my partner invest so much in the relationship.
i love this series and julian as a host. he's doing a fantastic job!
You are awesome man . Thank you for the tip
Oh the outro, I need to know!
You inspire me guys!!
I like it...a lot. :) Subscribing to your channel was the best decision ever. I always like your videos.
This was so cute and hilarious haha I love it!
wonder why we didn't see what the girl in the turquoise shirt said to her boyfriend...

crystallclearr15 maybe cause she didn't say anything meaningful. She looked super pissed at the guy when she handed the coffee to him. And didn't seem like she appreciated the efforts she had to put in to be romantic. I bet if she were taken out of the study, that 5% jump would be higher. Soul pancake please tell us what the result is if this couple is taken out as an outlier.
I liked this. Gave me a lot to reflect on.
another awesome video by equally awesome people!
This is beautiful!!
I think its nice to let someone do something for you. It let's them experience the joy of it.
Thank You so much for this video. I have experienced this with a friend of mine. I would always do stuff for him and even though I didn't always get my way I almost always insisted on paying for things or doing stuff for him. He has now since moved out of state and we barely talk anymore. Guess who makes the effort to call the other person? That's right, me. He never calls me and when I do call him he almost never picks up. I now can see why that happens and am extremely grateful for this video. Thank you again so much.
I really hope Charles and Alli can see these series!
It totally makes sense!
It's just beautiful to see people in love :)
I love these.
Great advice.
"I'm Julian and this has been the science of LOOOOVE!" :'D
Severely disappointed that none of them shouted "I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!"...
Oh my goodness I love these videos! They always make me teary eyed and they make me miss my boyfriend xD but these videos are very very beautiful and heart warming!
Good video again :)
Why are there even dislikes?? This video was beautiful...
In love with this ♡
Love this & I agree. Thank you.
Yall dont know how fukin emo u made me i love this
How easy and logical. However I learned something today something new! :P TX SoulPancake!
@SoulPancake Why didn't you tell us the change in attraction of the other person? It kind of defeats the purpose of the experiment if both actually find that they are more attracted now...
It's like playing hard to get. You have to give them a chance to come to you.
I love this :)
I love this.
love the credits!!!!!!!!!!!
it's just miss a diabolic laugh after the last "science of love" :P great vids anyway
Fantastic ❤️
I don't know why I'm crying 🥴😭
I love it... and I will have this teaching more into account when it comes to my relationship with my bf... you know he invest always, I need to invest more...
Similarly, one who harms another is more willing to harm them again than the victim is to retaliate.
most awesome video
Best sign off
awsomeness. inspired to let my love initiate some things 💟
My male bestie is my friend but we love each other as friends only. We value our friendship and don't want to ruin that.
Nice!
I liked this.
This was a sweet video, but I would have been more interested in seeing how the person receiving the actions felt the longer they did nothing.

Hey Danny! We saw an average of only 1% jump in attraction. Totally scientifically speaking, tis better to give than to receive!
@liv2srf

Yeah I was expecting that they would also explain how the receiving person felt after that or if/how their test scores changed.
Where can I find the questionnaire that you guys use for the sicence of live? Love the series btw :D
those ears make a heart
I actually really like Julian's personality :) He seems nice and cute!
Missed how many percent (versus 5%) of attractiveness gained opposite sides ?
The presenter of this show or series whatever!... Is Awsome... Dude I swear I just laugh when he makes this small remarks on things... He really makes this a little more awsome.... haha I used the word "awsome" twice..
most awesome.!
1:35 She sounds like Phoebe from Friends!
4:34 was so cute. :)
What if you wait for them to contribute but then they are waiting for you to make all or the next move(s)? stale mate?
