The bells of the civic tower of Brescia (Italy) ring out to commemorate all the dead
The municipal palace of Brescia (Italy) was built in 1187 next to the cathedral of Saint Peter, flanked by a huge medieval tower built in the early 12th century. The tower had withstood the devastating earthquake that killed 20,000 people in the city. On Christmas night 1222, a second earthquake razed the entire city to the ground, where Ghibelline nobles who were against the Church lived. The only building that was not damaged was the tower of the town hall.
The three bells are now ringing again on the occasion of the initiative involving Bergamo and Brescia as Italian cultural capitals for 2023. The three bells ring in memory of all the dead, especially those who were killed by the Covid19 infection.
- Minor bell cast in 1704 with a musical note D (210 kg)
- Second bell cast in 1768 in E flat (1080 kg)
- Major bell in A flat cast in 1794 (4980 kg)
After the terrifying earthquake of 1222, the palace was entirely rebuilt in stone and became the seat of the lord, the great hall of the town council was entirely decorated with beautiful frescoes; in 1298, Bishop Maggi had a second hall built for meetings. In the 15th century, Gentile da Fabriano was commissioned to decorate the church inside the palace, which was unfortunately cancelled in the 17th century. The last significant work was carried out in 1902, when the loggia demolished by revolutionary fools in the mid 19th century was rebuilt.

Beautiful ancient city of Brescia. In 2012. I had the opportunity to enjoy its wonderful architecture to some extent (during a day trip from Verona). A magnificent bell tower with huge bells, the pure sound of which is recorded at a high professional level. A wonderful work of the author. Thanks !

Praticamente è un po’ la replica in chiave “competitiva” del Campanone di Bergamo 😂😂😂 A parte ciò, finalmente un video serio dove si sentono suonare tutte direttamente dalla cella! Molto molto bene!

i due complessi sono molto simili, ma se ci pensi tutte le maggiori città avevano o hanno ancora una torre civica dove le campane avevano ciascuna una funzione differente
