The bells of St Michael & All Angels, Bullington

I was asked by Hugh Routh if I could make a video of Bullington bells, which he restored as a conservation project in 2011. The frame needed to be supported with steel grillage where the ends of the supporting timbers had rotted. The frame had been strengthened, and the bells have been re-hung on ball bearings, with the crown staples removed. The rotten parts of the wheels have been replaced, and the original unconventional stays have been replaced with more conventional typed curved ash stays. The bells are an absolute joy to ring, and handle really well despite the very large old style wheels.

What’s the point in a bent stay? I doubt it’s any better if it’s a straight stay

Its because it affects the set of the bell as its only on one side of the headstock if it were straight one stroke would be very light set and the other would be very deep set
