Thurlestone is a beautiful village in sunny South Devon, the long winding village road leads right down to Thurlestone sands, a beach at the most southerly point of the village. The Parish church is another fine example of South Hams architecture. The bells are another set in this area that can only be described as 'AGRICULTURAL' not easy to pick out inside and very odd struck.
They are by a mixture of founders, Treble by Gillett & Johnston in 1949, in that year they re-tuned the bells and put them on roller bearings. The 2nd is by John Pennington in 1697, 3rd by William Hambling in 1844, 4th by Warner 1888, 5th by Ambrose Gooding 1748 and Tenor by Thomas and John Pennington 1654. 2nd, 3rd, 5th and Tenor all listed. In felt that a number of clappers required attention, probably some seizing with the bushes, they hang in a fine Harry Stokes oak frame dated 1928 and are on elm headstocks. Tenor 13-0-3 in E.
