My ex wifes cousin worked for the north lighthouse board in the offices in George Street and he was flown out to some lighthouse's and remembers the helicopter pilot chasing sheep with the helicopter he damaged the helicopter but didn't lose his job as pilots were scarce at that time

Is there any manned lighthouses nowadays or are they automatic

The last manned lighthouse in England, and the United Kingdom, was the North Foreland Lighthouse in Kent. The last six keepers Dave Appleby, Colin Bale, Dermot Cronin, Tony Homewood, Barry Simmons and Tristan Sturley completed their service in a ceremony attended by the Prince Philip, on 26 November 1998.

There are a fair number around the world that are still manned, although not all of them are manned for operational purposes (for example, Canada mans the fully automated Machias Seal Island lighthouse for sovereignty purposes, and Australia's automated Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse is manned by volunteer caretakers for six-month assignments to make weather observations and do any required maintenance). I believe the majority of non-automated lighthouses are in Central and South America, as well as Italy and France.
