The church was built at the end of the 15th century by the Medici nobles, who owned vast estates in the plain around the municipality of Noviglio (Italy). The church was dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, to whom the family of the Marquises were very devoted. The ancient oratory soon became the parish church of the medieval village, which is why it was equipped with a high bell tower on the building's Gothic apse. The primitive bell was recovered from a warehouse fund in 1982, as the old one had been destroyed by a conspicuous crack.

The small old bell was replaced by a much newer bell, of excellent workmanship even though it was salvaged from ready-made bells manufactured by a foundry in the mountains. This new bell has rung very little, especially since the parish was moved into the church dedicated to the Holy Spirit in 1991. The rope broke at the beginning of the 21st century and the bell can only ring from the top of the bell tower, whose stairs are quite dangerous. The farmstead also has a 19th-century bell, made to call peasants working in the fields.
The beautiful church is in its original Gothic form. The exterior has the classic exposed brickwork emphasising the cornices, like all the architecture around Milan during that artistic period. The interior of the church is worn by the dampness of the ground, but is still original in its parts dating back to that period. The beautiful Baroque high altar is a later addition, ruined after the Second World War when the small temple was uprooted and thrown into the garden, immediately after part of the balustrades were broken. The church belongs to the Marquis, a direct descendant of St. Charles Borromeo on his mother's side, sister of Pope Pius IV.
