    Eric, I found you through The Behavior Panel and love your show! @Chase Hughes and @Scott Rouse, you are dead on about ling term abuse and reading body language. I am the child of a narcissist, possibly a malignant narcissist , and I can feel things before they come. Reading people becomes a super power unbenounced to yourself. Made me a natural as a 911 dispatcher for 20 years! It can be harder to articulate to others where you got your "gut" feeling from though. Lol Great show guys, thank you!

    The part about only kids reminds me of when my only-child sister-in-law was visiting and she put some leftovers in the fridge. She left them there for a couple of days, and then someone in the house at some of it. She was incensed. We're three kids in our family, plus there were grandchildren around. It was inconceivable to her that someone would have thought the abandoned, unlabeled food in the fridge was fair game.

    41:11 so accurate. Took me 27 years til I realized why I was this way because I was finally diagnosed with complex PTSD. Pretty interesting to hear the studies behind it though In regards to scotts comment, I know that I am on high alert at all times, always watching people around me to see if they are upset or unhappy in any way. But in regards to reading body language for lies, I've been the worst of all time at that. I think my people-pleasing nature from having a parent like that has led me to be highly perceptive of when people are mad or upset but when people lie to me or bully me, I don't recognize it as such until it's been going on for a very long time, I just retreat, accept and internalize all their criticisms of me. Diving into information regarding narcissistic family dynamics has improved my awareness and willingness to fight back but I still have a very hard time not absorbing all criticism, even if I know that the person is a perpetual liar and narcissist. Like I'm so self-deprecating that I'm overly willing to accept blame and criticism which is so weird because I have a strong sense of injustice and if I had a friend that was exactly like me and was being bullied in the same way, I would raise hell on their behalfs. It's so nuts how narcissists all grow up to use the same tactics and people like me on the opposite extreme of the spectrum, all seem to have the same reactions and behaviors as well.

  • @erichunley

    @erichunley

    Wow! I am so sorry to hear about your PTSD. That is a nightmare. I can also see where you can be tricked by some nefarious folks. It sounds like you may be overloaded with empathy which is not bad in of itself. I'm not sure if it is possible or if it could help but have you ever tried to look at yourself as a friend? I mean literally create your identity and evaluate what someone else is doing or not doing as if you were looking at a friend? Then trying to set up some baseline rules to drop people as soon as they hurt you? I know it sounds harsh but people who use others can recognize your nature and are likely attracted to you so the more abrupt you can cut them at the pass, they more likely they will land elsewhere.

    Working late hours so rewatching (listening to) some of these and saw your comment. Hope it’s ok to respond since it’s been awhile since your original post. Wanted to offer you some encouragement and applaud you for doing the work it takes to get insight into yourself. Hopefully you’ve been able to develop some really great support, and I imagine someone somewhere has or will read these comments and feel inspired and a little less alone having read what you shared. You are not the only one who gets sucked in by the lies etc. Lord knows I’ve spent more hours than I can count trying to figure out why I do what I do. I don’t know the research so feel free to tell me if I’m way off, but my theory is that those of us who feel similarly have leaned on empathy etc as our #1 survival technique & in order to be able to empathize we had to find a way to shut off that part that consciously recognizes issues in front of us contrary to what we’d need to feel to be able to navigate with empathy. I think we still have the skills to read others well; we just don’t recognize them consciously and probably rationalize them away. I also think lies generally have a kernel of truth to be believed which is just enough for some of us to latch on and think the worst of ourselves especially if that was the record that was playing over and over for us growing up. So please be kind to yourself when you find you’ve been sucked in and remind yourself that if growing up the only control you had over a situation was the control of yourself, it’s a natural evolution that the first person you’d blame or have take responsibility would be you. I know this doesn’t really solve anything for you, but just wanted you to know that there are others who maybe can relate (and please forgive me if the assumptions I’ve made don’t apply). As for Eric’s excellent advice, I know from my own experience, I am 100xs the friend to someone else than I am to myself if for no other reason than I can rationalize the best motivations in others whereas I’m stuck with me and every single one of my faults which makes it a lot harder to be compassionate to myself when I know I already knew the pitfalls and still managed to not avoid them. So, if you can relate to that (if that made ANY sense), please know you’re not alone, but also know that if we are really honest with ourselves, perhaps being more compassionate to ourselves would give us the freedom to walk away from bad situations and recognize when we are trying to desperately to take responsibility for things we don’t have the power to fix or salvage. Maybe that will help you be a better friend to yourself than you might otherwise be? I may be just trying to give myself my own advice here, not sure. But I hope if nothing else, you know you have people rooting for you and hoping that you continue to heal and be empowered. Sending hugs and wishing you the best!

    First I ever heard of 'impostor syndrome' but it explains my own insecurities. I am a sculptor and have had a successful career spanning thirty years, but still I often doubt my abilities. It was worse when I was younger, because I am self-taught, so the lack of attending art school has always left me with the feeling of being something of a phony, regardless of how much of my art I have sold and been praised for. I think the syndrome is simply the sign of a healthy ego. I'll never be Michelangelo and I'm okay with that. I just found your channel recently and find it very stimulating. Keep up the great work.

    I just noticed something I saw in the video the panel did just before they did this interview. In this video at 10:44 Greg scratches his head and Scott itches his ear. THEN at 10:54 Chase oddly adjusts his watch and Scott does the ear itch and THEN Scott makes the ASL sign language sign for "secret". Now go watch the Trump and Biden debate video. The EXACT SAME THING HAPPENS when Greg is talking about THE EXACT SAME THING. Take a look. It happens both times, during the same subject they are discussing. They are communicating secretly right in front of us. Were they told not to talk about Biden's wire and Greg forgot and they are reminding him? WHAT is going on here?

    There was something... I think not talking about the earpiece - if I’m right - it was to keep them distant from a political ‘conspiracy’ theory, but not for a secret agenda. The last thing they want is to be quoted to support a conspiracy Re cheating vs analysis. Also, he got a text shortly afterwards & looked down .. Was it to tell the audio person to be turn something down? Or did Eric text something to him Re a commenter?

    But very good catch. Let’s read them from this point forward...get their baseline ... and figure out when they’re are faking their respect for each other’s theories (thinking somebody’s making up a theory & writing “bull cookies” in a text to the other panelists), or mad they went second, or maybe gotta go to the can...quick butt (pun intended) they gotta hold it.🤔

Just gettem talking about their fave topic....👨🏾‍💻, and class was DONE for the rest of the day...). Might not be able to control you through the comments, but we could bust the code. Then again, you’d never expect it in the comments so there’s still hope. (Commenters & subscribers:no I didn’t just give up the plan. I tried teaching my daughters how to listen and pay attention and I think because of teaching them they have used it but I don’t think they are so intuitive as I am or was. Last comment, I promise. I knew something was wrong, but through this show I realized I was raised by a malignant narcissist father. He used us and anybody else he could to find some semblance of self worth. He has zero inner self worth. But I picked up on him at a very early age and I would call him out. Long story short, he put me out of the house at 15 years old, which was fine with me. It was so miserable. I spent so many years chasing after him and trying to figure out what was wrong until I heard Scott talking about it on this episode. So thanks, Scott. It was an eye-opener that I'd needed for a long time. And yes, I can size people up quickly and pretty accurately. This might be why.
