Here's the thing, the Bee Gees were not a disco band. They did three songs for a movie that their manager requested. Then the war on Disco started with the rock and roll crowd. The Bee Gees became their target. Then the movie won an award and the Bee Gees were ignored.

Absolute classic. Funny thing about this song is that most people in their circle including record producers, didn’t like the stomps (which Maurice recorded in his garage) at the beginning of the song, saying it was too loud. But as soon as you hear those same stomps, you know exactly what song is playing. BIG UP BEE GEES.

It’s a BeeGees song but apparently they needed a drummer and Phil offered to drum for them (or so I’ve heard). One of my favourite BeeGees songs outside the disco era.

Concert for Nelson Mandel's birthday. Lots of great artists there including Bee Gees and Phil Collins. It wasnt a collaboration though, he just drummed for them at this show. The Bee Gees were alot more than disco. This is one of my favourite songs.

They had a backing band for several artists on that day, made up of drummers Phil Collins and Mark Brzezicki (Big Country), bassist Mick Karn (Japan) and a bunch of other great musicians, playing together with Fish (ex-Marillion), Midge Ure (ex-Ultravox), The Bee Gees (obviously!), etc 😀

No drums on recording, the "stomps" were created by Maurice on his new equipment! This was a Nelson Mandela 70th birthday concert in 1988 and Phil Collins drummer AND a second drummer to try to get the "stomps" sound!! Phil used to be their neighbor in Miami Beach :-) Awesome song! Was Princess Diana's favorite!!

I love looking up this concert at Live Aid back in 1988, especially featuring Phil Collins playing the drums along with Paul Carrack from Ace on keyboards. It was a decade before I was born. That was a sad year since The Bee Gees’ youngest brother Andy Gibb died in the age of 30. Man, that is way too young to pass away, especially committing suicide of a drug overdose. Even Barry’s other brothers died and he’s the only living man alone.

It's been a concert for Nelson Mandela in London. That song was Nr. 1 at the english charts, those days (1987) and they also played 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You', Nr.1 in 1968 and dedicated it to Nelson. Maurice Gibb created the stomp in his garage and it was used on the studiotrack. Phil Collins felt envy about it and asked Maurice, how he was able to do it. Some background-knowings, I'd like to share with you.

You win again was from the Bee Gees 1987 album E.S.P. Original it had Rhett Lawrence working on a drum machine (yes it was a drum machine). That very hard destinctive sound of the drums also called stomps immediately gives the song away. The record compnay wanted them removed but the brothers said, they stay or the song will not be released. That was a good choice as this was to be their last number 1 in the UK, it did not go higher than 75 in the US. This live recording are from Nelson Mandelas 70th birthday concert in 1988. And yes Phil Collins played drums on this.
