    0:46 I've worked on this particular shot, with my colleagues of course. My job was to composite all of the elements. I remember when I first saw the original Blade Runner and I was only starting with CG, my thought was "this is exactly the kind of movie I wish I could work on, but this movie is already made". Then some 15 years later I got the chance to actually work on the new Blade Runner movie. It was very challenging, many details to pay attention to. I love the aesthetic of Blade runner.

    I think it's not even remotely arguable that you and others did a great job with the looks, but I cannot help but feel sorry since the potential wasn't utilized that well, you could have been part of one of the greatest movies like, ever, and instead you will only have fanboys of the genre that tell whomever doesn't like the film that they don't have the attention necessary to watch through it. I wish Villeneuve and Dick/Fancher/Green didn't murder it, and wish you better "luck" in the future!

  • @markoradinkovic665

    @markoradinkovic665

    @@Luca48882 The original can not be replicated. One of the reasons I believe is that it wasn't really planned as much as the new one. No one really knew how exactly is going to look like, and the writing was more organic in my opinion. I still like the new one though. But one thing I wish they kept was the original score (not from the original movie but the very new composition written for this movie), which was changed completely at the last minute. We've watched rough cuts of these sequences and they had a completely different score. That sequence with Joi, Officer K, and the prostitute had a very different score, it was a bell that was hitting every couple of seconds, and it was very hypnotizing, it was so trippy, I loved it. Then watching a final cut I was surprised to hear a different score. That is one big thing about Blade Runner 2049, its new score can not compete with the Vangelis score. Another thing differing from the original is how characters were used... I don't think they've utilized the presence of Rachel for example. I would argue that comparing to the original this one had a bit harder time tracking so many characters. But still, the overall atmosphere is true to the original, the vibe is there. I think people will grow to like it over time, it really isn't a movie that should track this new age of blockbuster sci-fi movies.

    Agreed that B2R 2049 could not be perfect, but it was magnificent. Thanks to you and all the others efforts. It truly worked as a successful sequel. I was convinced for a year before hand that, "they were going to screw it up", but you all didn't. It stands on it's own, which cannot be said for many, if not most sequels. Agreed also that Vangelis orginal soundtrack was so good that it was nearly a character in the movie. I initially found Zimmer's score to be harsh and it was it was played at a painful volume in the theater that I saw it in. But when I bought the DVD and played it at home, at a more normal volume, it grew on me. Will be very interested to see what Zimmer creates for Dune. Are you involved in Dune? Looks like it's going to be brilliant, and the cast seems very well-suited for their roles.

  • @markoradinkovic665

    @markoradinkovic665

    @@alanparsonsfan Funny you asked, I did work on "Dune" as well. However I got on the show much later, I did only a few shots. Yeah, "Dune" is really following up on the aesthetic of the original, but I am also noticing some visual similarities with "Blade Runner 2049", mainly because the same people are making it. It's the same director and director of photography is the guy who did some great work on "Killing them Softly", "Foxcatcher" and "Rogue One" if I am not mistaken. Dune has been around in postproduction for a while now, and that is a good sign, I believe they are doing their best to make this a really good movie. The original "Dune" suffered a limited budget, but the project was huge. This one has some good actors, a great budget, a great director, and a well-established collaboration with VFX facilities and supervisors. I really believe it will be a good movie. Fingers crossed.

    I thought it was really touching. Joe finds out that he's not the offspring of the two replicants; confirming that he's just another manufactured replicant, is devastated at this revelation, had his only companion (Joi) destroyed, and was left to rot after Luv took Deckard away. He had nothing to live for that gave him meaning and purpose. Instead of just letting himself rot, or doing nothing, he took action under his own free will and fought to free Deckard, which ended up wounding him so bad that he died after freeing him. Dying fighting for an ideal is about as human-like as it gets, and I thought it was a satisfying ending because he forged his own path for the first time in his life rather than doing something just because someone told him to do it. I would put this movie in my top 5 favorites, it is really special.

    CD projekt red, the studio behind cyberpunk 2077, have stated multiple times that they want the city to be the game's main character while also being the main villain. They want you to boot up the game one day wanting to play a few more missions and end up spending 4 hours walking around and enjoying the scenery. They've done it before with the witcher 3 and they'll 100% do it again with cyberpunk.

    I loved the thing, but it's a long slog! Some scenes were awkward; the sex encounter, cringey and the final fight feeling lifted from elsewhere. On release it struggled to attract filmgoers outside cult followers of the original, particularly young women. The dreamlike atmosphere and pacing probably alienated those only accepting pandering, crowdpleasing glee or nonstop action. To these failures the film stands apart in history, best remembered for its equally staggering effects and cinematography.

    Blade Runner has been my favorite film for decades. Upon viewing BR2049, I was in awe at how they expanded upon the world Ridley and Jordan(Cronenweth) created. Without trying to mimic or fan service the film, Denis and Deakins found a way to craft something so beautiful and complex that like the 1982 film, will be misunderstood and considered a failure at first then discovered to be the masterpiece it actually is. The only reason this movie wasn't received better is because a lot of the modern movie audience wants to led around by their brains. If a movie requires attention or a drop of deep thought a lot of people tune out. It takes huge explosions to keep people's attention. This movie was great!

    After seeing this movie in the theater, I left and felt somewhat numb. I was confused, I didn't know what to think. I love the original Bladerunner and Consider it one of my favorite "Modern" SciFi movies. So I thought.. "what did I just see"? It's not a sequel, really. It's different. Yes it is the same world.. but it's not, it's more in the future. I thought and thought.. and thought. I viewed the movie at home. I bought the BluRay.. I thought some more. I watched the original versions again and again. I can now say I love BR2049, as much as a stand alone movie as a continuation of the original. It will never match the original, but it was a much needed addition to the family. To answer your question, this movie can and does make you think, if you want it to.

    I think this movie has already been forgotten. It's the real Blade Runner that wil last forerver. This one will fade just like 2010, anothe useless sequel that tried too late to earn cash using a masterpiece and trying to follow it up but without saying anything relevant

    I am very proud that the three studios have allowed Denis Villeneuve to make such a beautiful film. Sad to note that the sales in theaters did not generate the sales that all hoped. Will the story reoccur like the first movie released in 1982 ? That hindsight and time will give all the cinematographic recognition that comes back to the film ? I believe so ... Thank you for this beautiful video...
