    Both movies, Your Name and Koe No Katachi are good. It just boils down to preference and who can connect more to the one or other movie. I for example could connect more to Koe no Katachi because of the topic. But I know one or two people who thought it was boring and instead prefered that what happend in Your Name. The reason why Your Name overshadowed Kow No Katachi was because it was aired in the theatres. Koe No Katachi didnt. As far as I remember Your Names director Makoto Shinkai was awarded as best director for this movie. However, Koe No Katachi was awarded as the best (anime) movie. So in essence, Your Name was more popular. Koe no Katachi was better. At least thats what the numbers and awards say.

    Honestly I think Silent Voice was better than Your Name because of plot, characters, motivation, and the investment of us as the audience as we change our entire opinion about the main character, shouyo, as he travels his path of redemption. Sorry Your Name's writing was pretty bad as there's a lot of plot holes (time travel and the motivation of the characters' love which to me was random) the characters was kinda one dimensional. Both movies' directions and visual effects was beautiful. Your Name with environmental graphics and A Silent Voice with the characters. To me, I don't see the hype of Your Name.

    It's been a long while since I read a story that made me smile and laugh like a dumbass in so many scenes, which are for the most part nonexistent in the movie. Some of the funniest or most touching moments got left out, and the movie literally ends with like 80 pages of story left. The movie is good, don't get me wrong, but these characters really grow on you once you start seeing the entire picture, which was impossible to convey in 2 hours.

I watched A Silent Voice and I downloaded it in the highest quality I could find on the internet, and I watched it again, on my 4k TV; only to make me realize.... Need to remember that there are people out there that have probably gone through this bullying and still excel? Watch this movie and grow a pair. Need a "masterpiece, 10/10 would recommend, will save the 50GB version of this movie in my external hard-drive for eternity, and will most definitely keep up with PC standards so I can continue to re-render it as resolutions increase" kind of movie? My family watches movies with this tone, and all I hear is “it was so depressing”, “it was so sad”. Yes it was sad. But that wasn’t the soul purpose, to make you sad. It is to spread awareness, discuss adolescent issues, talk about how critical friendships are, and like the reviewer stated, for people to know that we all need to understand eachother. It’s so many things at once this movie, and it’s made with utter genius. It’s so real. I honestly would recommend this to US high school teachers to show to students. It’s so important.

    That outro music you put from the movie was one that hit me as it plays and she’s ruining to the bridge where they meet after he wakes up from his coma. The piano with violin was awesome

  • @tatertots214
    @tatertots2143 жыл бұрын

    Shoko is always out of shoyas reach. Like when he tries to catch her when she jumps off the bridge into the river. He is always unable to reach her because he can not properly understand her. But, shoya is able to catch shoko when she attempts suicide because it is the one emotion he can understand, too. I just realized the (possible) symbolism.

    This movie was absolutely amazing, I remember as soon as it came out. My friend, for his birthday, wanted to see it. So we all went to the movie theater, but there was unironically a power malfunction and the whole place and the mall was out of power. Refusing to let us in even after they got the power up. So we went to my house and had a bunch of highschoolers and parents sit down and watch this movie in our living room. It was absolutely amazing and you had just about 20 high schoolers hugging each other and getting all tear eyed over this. Even the parents who sat in the back were getting really into this movie. Such a great moment and I'll forever love this movie because of it

    I love anime. Why? It's not afraid to show us the darker side of life. It takes all of the negatives in life, turns it into a beautiful cinematic experience, and teaches us things about ourselves. It forces topics such as loss and self-hatred upon us, but also teaches us how to grow from those experiences. I lost my mom in a car accident a few years back, and animes such as Anohana got me through that. One of my close friends hung themselves last year (in which I blamed and hated myself for it), but animes such as A Silent Voice and 5 Centimeters per Second, taught me to accept myself, let go of the past, and move on.

    よい、fellow Japanese here. I finally subbed to you because of what you said at the end. That you heard the movie Your Name greatly overshadowed Koe no Katachi but you don't think so as you think that Koe no Katachi is better. I truly agree with you. Even though I watched Kimi no Na Wa first and thought that no other movies can possible beat it until I watched Koe no Katachi. This movie is the sole presentation of how we humans are animals with emotions and the ability to forgive. I'm not going to lie that I cried throughout the movie. This movie is really heavy and heartbreaking to watch... Koe no Katachi is the movie that the more you watch, the more you come to understand every subtle meaning of the show and the more you watch, the more you'd get surprised after understand what each scene really meant. Its the only movie you can watch without getting bored, at least in my opinion it is, I cried more times than the previous after rewatching as I finally understood what each scene meant. I've now watched Koe no Katachi 9 times. Basically, the end of the movie begins shortly after Nishimiya attempts suicide. She simply thinks that she caused everyone and especially Shouyasan the most pain (ridiculous as it should've been the other way around) でも when Shouyasan was saving her from the balcony he begged for him to die instead of Nishimiyasan. Granted by the God's his wish, he fell and died. It was then viewed that Nishimiyasan saw messages in her dream from Shouyasan saying that he wanted to die, but it was then that Shoukosan realised that she needs him in order to move forward in her life. Then moving onto the part where she wakes up and runs towards the bridge where they feed the Koi fish, in act of desperation she screams her voice out hoping it can finally reach out to Ishidasan. And it does, reincarnating him and they both meet and Ishidasan then asks Shoukosan for her help to help him live. So in the end with the help of each other, they're finally able to move forward and live not only for each other but for themselves, and Ishidasan finally is ready to face the world. The ending where he cries and shows a distant shadow of a boy walking and suddenly a girl walking beside the boy represents Shouyasan and Shoukosan, they both now walk side by side ready to face the obstacles in life, together. This is really hard for me. Nishimiyasan's smile is the purest most innocent thing you can ever find in history, it melts me. To simply put it, I think the only reason Your Name surpassed Koe no Katachi is because they were both released around the same time and it was a gamble for them to see which movie was watched more. Sadly Koe no Katachi lost but i'd rate Your Name an honest 9.7 out of 10 and Koe no Katachi a 9.9/10. The 0.1 simply because neither in the manga or movie we are let to know if Ishida and Nishimiya got together.

    I never once hated Shoya, not even in the beginning. I never felt like he was a bad kid, his entire middleschool era I just kept thinking, "Shoya, what are you doing?" I was mostly heartbroken for Shouko, but also for Shoya later on. The guilt of hurting someone else is crushing; I couldn't imagine trying to recover from guilt like that, let alone trying to reconcile with someone I had treated like that. Honestly, storyline-wise, I relate more to Shouko because I was bullied a lot growing up, but I also relate so much to Shoya's social anxiety and the suicidal thoughts/attempts of both characters, because same. Relatable. (Don't worry, I'm mentally and emotionally stable now, but I haven't always been.) Also, I didn't think anything about whether or not I wanted Shoya and Shouko to "end up together," that wasn't the point.
