Hi Dave, thanks a lot for showing these bootlegs. Especially the Swinin' Pic bootlegs are absolutely fantastic. What an incredible designe and presentation of the records. It's a shame that these great records are not available anymore. I can remember in the late 80, you found them also in normal record stores here in Germany. I got a 3 disc collection of BBC recordings but in the mid 2000 I sold all my vinyls as I had no turntable any more. Today I regret it...

If memory serves me well I believe that originated from West Germany, so I’m not surprised they sold them in shops! Hey Dave great video mate. I have a few Beatles bootlegs including the "Not For Sale" and "From Us To You" that you showed, though mine of the 10" had blank labels. Like you I stuck numbers on them to indicate which side. Those Trademark of Quality albums look really nice. I tended to stay away from bootlegs but I think "Sessions" was the first one I bought as well as those Deccagone audition singles on coloured vinyl. I also have "Dig it" from 'NEMS' label as well as. "Collectors Item" which was apparently an early boot of what became the US "Rarities" LP. I remember seeing those "Beatles At The Beeb" LP's in import record shops back in the day. Wish I'd bought them. However a couple of years ago I bought the 9CD BBC Boxed set. The sound quality ranged from a bit dodgy to OK and listenable though the included booklet was very nice. I did pay too much for it though. 😢 Sorry I haven't been around much. Love your work as always mate. Cheers. 👍

Great video. I just subscribed to your channel because of this video. This is going to take some time, so read at your leisure. A lot of this stuff in the video I already knew, some I didn't, but I thought I'd share my thoughts, and, maybe fill in some gaps. Like I said, this is going to be a long read. I've met Belmo in person more than once, and he's a very nice person. His books, Not For Sale, and Black Market Beatles are very good guides for collecting unauthorized live and studio Beatles recordings. He calls them "Beatlegs" and from here on, I will, too. The downside is Belmo is not exactly 100% accurate with his information, but he is accurate enough that I would highly recommend that both beginners and advanced collectors read his books thoroughly. Another downside is that he can get a bit opinionated, and some opinions I disagree with, but that doesn't detract from the valuable information he shares. He has also written books on specific subjects, such as devoting a whole book to the Get Back/Let It Be sessions, (Including information about Beatlegs of those recordings) and a whole book on The Christmas Records, with a wealth of information of not only the legitimate fan club records/album, but Beatlegs of out takes, soundalike bands, and the BBC Christmas Special hosted by Lulu. Another author to look out for is a Dutchman who goes by "Azing Moltmaker". He is also quite authoritative and well versed on Beatlegs, and has put out a series of books on individual albums which also includes information about Beatlegs from those recording sessions. He also put out a book about some of the labels that manufactured and and distributed these recordings, most notably Yellow Dog, and Vigatone. (Both excellent companies that put out some of the best Beatlegs around) So remember those names, and find those books, and educate yourselves. Have fun, and good luck tracking down whatever piques your interest. I remember when Five Nights In a Judo Arena first came out. I didn't buy it then, but Yellow Dog years ago released a 12 C.D. set called "The Ultimate Collection". There were three box sets with four C.D.s each. The first disc from the second box features three concerts. The first one being Stockholm, October 24, 1963, the second from Paris, June 30, 1965, and the last being from Tokyo, July 1, 1966. I think this is the "Judo Arena" album. These were actual radio broadcasts, which is why they sound so good, and professional. Also, I believe the Tokyo concert was one of the incidents that reinforced the band's decision to stop touring after 1966. The Japanese are reserved, polite people, and this had been the first time The Beatles could actually hear themselves perform on stage in years. (Let's just say, they themselves thought they were terrible, and leave it at that) Although it says Made In Germany on From Us To You, I believe that it is actually a U.S. release, judging from the label. There was a record company called "Ruthless Rhymes' that used that label on many unauthorized recordings. I used to have on vinyl, a concert that took place in Houston, Texas. It was a two record set that had both afternoon and evening shows. I won't go into too much details about the recording itself, but listening to the local sheriff trying to calm down the audience is hilarious. In case you're interested, the image on the label was taken from an old subscription advert for National Lampoon Magazine. (Subscribe to National Lampoon or we'll shoot the dog) Both afternoon and evening sets were reissued by Yellow Dog on a C.D. called The Ultimate Live Collection Volume One. (I've never seen any other volumes, though) The Get Back album has been released numerous times, but the covers and recordings different slightly, depending on who released it. I have it on both vinyl and C.D. On both my vinyl and C.D. the front cover has the apple in the upper left hand corner. It also says "With Don't Let Me Down and 11 More Songs" . On some copies, the track listing instead of "Link Track" the listing says "Rocker/Save The Last Dance For Me". Also some copies didn't come with that. My vinyl copy doesn't have that, but my C.D. does. Also the back cover photo differs from copy to copy. My vinyl copy has a huge photo from The Twickenham Soundstage, while the back of my C.D. has four separate photos of each Beatle from the recording sessions at Apple Studios. The vinyl is apple green. Also the label on the vinyl is a black and white mock up of the Apple Records label with the information printed upside down, while the C.D. label looks like a test pressing label.. Neither my vinyl, or C.D. came with the insert shown in your video. As far as Not For Sale goes, believe it or not, Belmo's book came first. In fact, in one of his books, (I can't remember if it's in Black Market Beatles, or an updated edition of Not For Sale) he remarked about how he was flattered by the fact that somebody took the front cover artwork, and title of his book for a Beatleg. I have it on both vinyl and C.D. The C.D. version is longer and includes extra tracks. ( Tomorrow Never Knows, Strawberry Fields Forever, Revolution, Yer Blues, A Case of The Blues, Across The Universe) My vinyl copy has the same label as yours, but mine came out on dark purple vinyl. From a far distance you wouldn't be able to tell, but upon closer inspection it is what I would call "Twilight" purple. Also the vinyl version of If You've Got Trouble is complete, while the C.D. version has the first verse cut out. Also, the C.D. version was released on the Condor label. (At least my copy is) I always thought the label on the vinyl was rather clever, myself. I do not own anything on The Swingin' Pig label, nor do I own any of the Ultra Rare Trax albums, but I believe most, if not all the music was later released by the Yellow Dog label on the seven C.D. set called Unsurpassed Masters, and Acetates. (Also on Yellow Dog) I do like the special inner sleeve, though. Not many purveyors of unauthorized recordings would go out of their way in such a manner of fashion. I thought it was a nice touch. I apologize for the length of this reply, but I did warn you in the beginning that it would be rather long. I hope you will find the information I provided helpful and useful, and I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as i enjoyed watching your video.

Hi, Yea quite an essay, probably the longest message I’ve ever had! As I remember I had two previous books by Belmo, Do you want to know a secret and another with a title I can’t remember. But most definitely thought the “Not for sale” volume was much superior and included a lot more up to date information and many of the bootleg CDs in my collection. Shame to hear his info is not as good as it could be , but for myself it’s always been pretty good as I haven’t brought many since having the book but what I do have , they appear to have a good write up! I’m guessing we can all be opinionated from our own points of view , so I can understand that as we all have different ideas. Haven’t really looked for any of his other books but generally a bit harder to get in the U.K.and I may have seen some of the books by "Azing Moltmaker" on my travels! Have come across many boots on Vigatome & Yellow dog and they are probably two of the best labels out there and have been around quite a while now! I’ve also got sone great live box sets of the Hollywood Bowl complete concerts and the Sam Houston concerts too which are both very good quality and enjoyable,I do remember those ultimate collection box sets but never got round to buying those. I believe I did read somewhere that the Parlophone rehearsal session disc was USA made although it has been put out multiple times even with that terrible sound quality! Yes I’ve seen absolutely multiple copies and variations on the Get Back LP, I think the one I showed was more likely one of the earlier ones and the quality was extremely good for the time! I’ve also had the Mythology 3 box set in the past and I always felt although good, it could have been much much better , but it did have 3 great books within each set! Thanks for your information and keep enjoying the channel!

Hi, Dave. That's a fabulous collection of boots you have there. I particularly like the coloured vinyl, and the outer jackets are incredible, picture wise and great quality. I have the 5 Nights In Japan album. Great outer jacket. Sound quality pretty good. George sounded like he either had a cold or was very distracted on If I Needed Someone, which he got from John and Paul helping with the vocal. Where did you find most of your boots, a store or ordered through the mail? I have several boots myself, mostly 70s era bought, but a couple more recent from record store visits. 70s through the mail. Cheers.

I have a question for Ask BeatleDave: if I was to visit the UK for a week, what would be your top 5 (or more) recommendations to visit for a Beatles fan? Another question: was there ever a CD release of the Christmas albums? Also, as a CD collector I loved your Beatles' promo and singles collection and I am following your steps on this. Could you do a George's and John's similar video? Thanks for all! 👏👏👏

Hi Dave as a Beatles fan I find your channel really interesting although I must admit I stopped collecting vinyl in the mid 90s . I’ve been quite obsessive over the years trying to get everything fart burp and whistle they ever recorded. IMO I think it’s hard to beat the Beatles Secret Garden Sessions and anything on Purple Chick and for solo Beatles Mister Claudel. Not sure if any of that is available on vinyl but thought I’d mention it.

I started collecting Bootlegs in the late 70's. You might be interested to know the 10-inch boot "From Us To You - A Parlophone rehearsal" I have two of them. The first has dialogue between songs and the other has no dialogue. One is on blue vinyl and the other is on orange vinyl. My first Beatles bootleg was "Yellow Matter Custard" of which I placed it between "Please Please Me" and "With the Beatles". But now I have my Beatle and solo Beatles in Alphabet order. I like to record them in recording date order. I have bootlegs besides Beatles/Solo-Beatles namely "The Rolling Stones", "The Who", Chuck berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Monkees and regretfuly Bob Dylan which was stolen around 1980 (But has been released - Ha-Ha). I don't like the sound from CDR's and I've had many strokes and now is Paralyzed on my Right side. Two type this comment the only thing that works, on my right hand, is my fore finger and my thumb. My fantasy bootleg is "Ten of Swords" box set, by Bob Dylan, but I missed it. Have a good life and God Loves You.

Hey Mr. Beatle Dave I have asked this question to some KZreadrs out there and nobody’s actually replied or try to answer it so here’s the question didn’t somebody at EMI or Abbey Rd., Studios have to have access to the recordings to get out the door so I’ve often thought it must’ve been somebody who everybody might know since it’s not easy to get to you would think just wondering if you had any thoughts on that thanks. Good job.

Hi, Hope your well! I can definitely answer that question and I will! John Barrett, who worked for EMI was asked to listen and make notes on every single Beatles tape in their vaults. I also believe he had Cancer and was having Chemotherapy around this time so he had the time to do this work, this is from memory so maybe slightly inaccurate! So he had access to everything and we know that he made copies of various tracks etc which is why we got the bootlegs like the John Barrett tapes. It could also be that other staff maybe copied some also but definitely this period and also his work on The Beatles at Abbey Road presentation (which I went too) formed the basis of a plethora of bootlegs over the late 1989’s. That in turn prompted EMI to issue lots of unreleased tracks for the Anthology project! As I said, some details maybe slightly different but that’s the general story from memory! Hope that helps you my friend! Thanks for watching!
