I remember buying this in 66 and just staring at the album cover I think it was the back cover where it says who sang what and I could not figure out for the life of me why John only had two songs. As the years passed finally figured out that there was a U.K. version and I like that one a hell of a lot more than the American version.

I live in Switzerland and recently picked up a German mid 70s Apple pressing of Magical Mystery Tour. Absolutely amazing sounding LP. I imagine the German Apple Revolver is of the same quality. The early Hör Zu Odeon labels are very common to find here.

You're lucky to have access to those . They are very difficult, and expensive, here in the US. I just recently bought the 73 Hor Zu pressing of Please Please Me, and it is amazing. Andrew from Parlogram Records recommended that and the Revolver, ( which I haven't found yet ). I've had the MMT lp for many years, and are correct in your assessment of that. It's the only version in stereo to have.

@@750drums Thanks for your reply David. I also enjoy Andrew’s videos and one can learn a lot from his posts. It’s my quest to have all the great sounding Apple German pressings in my collection( which won’t break the bank) and to grab a copy of the World Records 1980 Beatles Box. Perhaps one day I’ll start collecting the US versions. There are plenty of second hand US pressings here too.

Well wait until you hear the 3rd German cutting with an Apple label from the mid 70's to early 80's... It'll really knock your socks off! That's the "big bass" pressing he was referring to and it truly is incredible. Highly recommended. 👍

I noticed that the first Capitol pressing of Revolver has the lead guitar passage on "Here, There and Everywhere" is quite loud and very noticeable. Later pressings I've encountered had this passage not buried but hidden, almost out of phase. Then after McCartney sings, But to love her is to need her" it shifts back to the left channel back again. Especially after the second time.

The first pressing Japanese Revolver OP7600 sounds loud and clear-a really engaging listen-but the second pressing AP8443 cleans up some of the rough lively edges for a better balance overall. Great dynamics on those AAA Japanese Revolver pressings. The 80s mono release sounds excellent too.

What you have to consider is that for many young Americans in 1964, Meet The Beatles sold like hot cakes and it was the best that every person in the US could buy and enjoy. UK Parlophone imports into the US wouldn’t happen until 69,69. I for one would consider buying the original US Capitol albums just for the factor of collecting them. I totally agree that they sound like they were mixed in tunnel but hey Ho.

When it comes to the German "big bass" version, something he left out is you must pay attention to the matrix number more than anything, more specifically the 3rd cutting from the mid 70's to early 80's, with no dash (-) in between the A1/B1 at the end of the matrix number/runout: SHZE 186-A 04097-A1 SHZE 186-B 04097-B1 _or_ 04097-A1 04097-B1 If there's a dash in between A-1/B-1, leave it alone.. That's still 2nd cut from HörZu with lesser sound quality. Just a tip! 👍

The recent remix is the best. At last we don't have to listen to nearly all vocals on one speaker, nearly all instruments on the other perception of stereo, which has pestered nearly every Βeatles song, until they recorded the White Album. Since the remixes came out, I hardly bother to listen to the older ones, remasters or originals. This goes especially for Revolver and Sgt Peppers but a great job was done with the rest which were recorded on 8-track. Isn't modern recording technology a great thing ! Looking forward to a remix of Rubber Soul now. And then who knows, maybe we will get to listen to their early music as it should sound.

"Best" is a very subjective thing. 😉 I think you'd revise your statement, if you got a chance to hear the German "big bass" 3rd cutting from the mid 70's to early 80's he referred to. It's truly a game changer.. Besides the excellent bass, it has incredible punch and clarity. Highly recommend! 👍

@@R3TR0R4V3 Surely I 'd listened to it if i find it, which i don't think it's easy. Yes, best may be subjective, but what i mainly appreciate is clarity. And these remixes are clear enough to reveal sounds which are more or less ''hidden'' in the original mix.
