My favourite part of "Let it Be" is George helping Ringo work out "Octopus' Garden". My favourite part of "Get Back" is when the cops arrive and one tells the Apple staff that if they're filming the playing they can just dub the sound in later.

Great review! Let It Be is about the music! We get complete serious performances of most of the songs. It's not depressing as many people remembered. It IS the Beatles breaking up. No amount of positive footage changes that. It is what it is. We need a physical release containing the entire rooftop show with a soundtrack maybe as a bonus

I totally get what you are saying about the "alternate" version of Long and Winding Road. I was in a band and we were working on a song and (for reasons I don't really remember) one time we just suddenly started playing it double time. It totally changed the feel from like a strange pop song to a high energy ska type tune and we all loved it. That then became the permanent version of the song. But sometimes an artist has a particular song feeling locked into their minds are just aren't open to having it changed.

Downplaying depression, or being self deprecating by juxtaposing sad lyrics to upbeat melodies was always the approach I took when writing songs back in high school. It felt more interesting than a “Good Day Sunshine” approach to writing. With both lyric and melody being defined as “happy”. I love your ramblings, geek! Keep it up. ✌🏼

I was steeling myself for the doco to be miserable but I didn't find it that way at all. But it was very incomplete, like a random collection of clips with no connecting 'narrative', jumping from place to place etc. Odd. Thank god Sir Peter got hold of all of the original footage.

The lore around this movie was completely nonsensical. People made it out to be this terribly negative, oh so dreary movie, the Beatles were miserable, they were fighting blah blah blah. Absolutely incorrect. I saw it last week (first time ever) and it's like an abridged version of Get Back or like a 90 minute music video block on MTV. Really enjoyed it and cannot believe why it was so hated in the past. Huge injustice to Michael Lindsay Hogg.

It was the context of the time Let It Be was released that gave it such a negative impression. The movie came out as The Beatles were breaking up and fans were mourning the loss of their favorite band. It was difficult to remove that context from Let It Be until enough time had passed for people to revise their opinion after seeing Let It Be again decades later. Now we can watch it removed from the strong negative emotions felt in 1970.

The rationale for streaming only is that lots of people will sign up for Disney + just to see "Let It Be" and then stay subscribers. It may only be $8.00/month, but that's $96/year for those who don't cancel their subscription. And for those who can't stand the ads, Disney makes $139.99/year, possibly for many years. That's far more than a family would have spent to see this film once.

The people running Disney are not renowned for their intelligence 😀 Great that a cleaned up version is 'out there' (is it ??? - DVD / Blu Ray???) but I think Peter Jackson did those of us who grew up with the Fabs (and later generations, of course) a great service by opening things up and showing a far more balanced version of what was going on.

When you watch Let it Be.....it's not hard to see the Beatles breaking up within a year. Oddly enough, the Peter Jackson film (which, unlike LIB mentions George's quitting) makes it look like the Fabs were in great shape and ready to take on the 1970s. My fave moments from LIB: the Paul-Ringo piano duet, John's ragged-and-righteous take on Across the Universe, George helping Ringo write Octopus' Garden, the jam with Billy Preston and the entire rooftop concert.

☢Warning: Rant Coming. I watched "Let It Be" on May 8th and now I'm slowly watching "Get Back" for the very first time. I'll get my pet peeve out of the way. My #1 pet peeve by far when directors/cameramen are shooting a musician who is singing and playing guitar at the same time is when they frame the shot from the eyebrows to the lower lip. The eyebrows.....to the lower lip. Utterly ridiculous. There are countless shots like that and it's very annoying. I want to see both their face and the instrument. I don't want to see the boogers in their nose or the pores in their skin. Okay, done with rant. "Let It Be" is great for casual fans. I thoroughly enjoyed it. "Get Back" is a much tougher watch. I'm finding John Lennon to be incredibly annoying in "Get Back". He can't ever sing a song straight he has to do it in a "comedy" style and after a while it just gets old. It's like Uncle Willy telling the same joke over and over. I thought that Yoko Ono would be the annoying one in "Get Back", but I was totally wrong about that. It's John Lennon. And I'm a big John Lennon fan his songs are freaking brilliant. But there's lots of great stuff in both "Let It Be" and "Get Back". One is for casuals and the other is for diehards. And yes release "Let It Be" in theaters and also a hard copy.

If Im right thats just the way they always wrote their songs, they started them with funny lyrics until they found the right mood and tempo of the song and then they would put down the right words to the song, for example the song Yesterday had these funny lyrics of Scrambled eggs and how I Love your legs, It just Liverpudlian humor that they would do to amuse each other or to lighten the mood.

Yes, it's great to have it out at last, but a few quibbles with the review: First, I get you like the peppy version of _The Long And Winding Road_ but why go on about it for twice as long as the actual song? One or two sentences would be enough; not roughly a third of the time you talk about the entire movie in total. And second, same thing with Disney not putting this in theaters. I'm not interested in you fumbling around trying to describe the "thing next to the projector". It's irrelevant to what you're supposed to be doing, which is reviewing the movie. In an eight and a half minute video, you go on about these two things for nearly half that time (from 4:10 to 7:52). And as people in the comments are saying, what about other aspects of the film, such as _Besame Mucho,_ etc. Sorry Eric, I think this could have been fixed in editing. When you are actually talking about the movie, I quite enjoy what you have to say. But I suppose a four-minute review isn't worth posting.

Personally,I really enjoyed the review.I liked the fact that Eric didn't edit those bits out.Made it natural and interesting.

@@stanleyferdinand5979 I know that what I wrote might come across as snotty, but I genuinely enjoy Eric's channel. Maybe in a 20 or 30 minute review those asides wouldn't seem so out of place, but when they're almost half the video, I felt it was a distraction from the main point. Natural and interesting is good, but I would have liked these digressions to have been much shorter. Hopefully he will take it as constructive and not sniping.
