The BEATLES LAST ALBUM: Albums That Never Were |
Музыка
This "album that never was" is a career capper for the Beatles that follows my other imaginary Beatles album, "Beatles '70." Included are some of the best Beatles solo hits as well as the cream of the crop of their early album tracks and b-sides. It features the hits Imagine, My Sweet Lord, and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. If you've made imaginary Beatles Albums on old cassettes, then Albums that Never Were is probably for you

i honestly think abbey road works as the perfect ending to the beatles, especially with the end at the tail end of the b side medley. the end was the first and last time ringo ever had a drum solo, it was the first and last time john, paul, and george all had guitar solos at the same time, it endlessly repeats "love you" as a callback to the beatles countless songs about love, and i dont think the beatles couldve gone out on a higher note than "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

It is brilliant, but what about Her Majesty, that's what ends Abbey Road, and I'm glad, because as McCartney said it was all a bit dramatic and serious, so he decided to put Her Majesty at the end to leave on a happy note. 😊✌️
@tomrogerlilleby2890

No, that is not the story that I've heard. There was one person that put together the master before it went into pressing. He said he took the decision to put "Her Majesty" as the very last little ditty as some kind of surprise at the very end of the album - as he thought that little song deserved to be heard. But it was not at all intended for the album - so he kind of hid it at the end. You have to wait for it for several seconds before it suddenly pops up at the uttermost end. Paul McCartney once did a performance with the Queen present - and he did "Her Majesty." Said "Sorry, I just couldn't help it" !

Sorry to disagree with some other fans but I just didn't like Her Majesty ending the Abbey Road album. I thought The End was the most perfect way to finish the Beatles journey. When the piano is suddenly there on its own and then those beautiful harmonies that only the Beatles can do kicks in, oh my, what a way for a band to finish. Then you have those words "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make". It's brought a tear to my eye even now after all these years. I guess thats the Beatles for you.
The Beatles Abbey Road ending was the proper way to go out. They'd done enough for us and deserved a break. The Masters of Modern Music!
I'd buy this album, if it existed, in a minute!!! Nice job Matt!

When I was younger, so much younger than today, (in 1970) I'd fantasize like this, making playlists, but the truth is, Abbey Road was the last Beatles album. And that's reality.
I have to compliment you on your Beatles videos! I've read tons of books about the Beatles. Your research is arguably the best I've run across. The first video of yours I watched was the one about Pete Best. I read Pete Best's autobiography, watched interviews with him, and wondered why he was sacked from the Beatles. When you played a bit of his his drumming from the audition tracks the Beatles recorded, against a later version of the same Beatles song, it showed the inconsistencies in his drumming. No other Beatles researcher I know had done that. Thanks for clearing that up for me, and for your outstanding research!
Lots of fun. I listened to the album on spotify. I could picture uncle Albert as the closing song on side one. Thanks for the video and spotify song list!!
Born 1954 and big fan since i want to thank you for this great thing . greetings from bremen

You know, this is actually a great idea for an album. If the record companies would agree, they could put a handful of each solo Beatles songs from 70, 71 onto one album. Why not? I bet it would sell. I even like your idea for the artwork.

It actually was done in 1972 as a TV only sale album called "Alpha Omega" where some of the best solo songs were included on it. There were actually three volumes of that LP done and it was the reason Apple released the 1962-1966 and 1967-1970 Greatest Hits LP's in 1973.

Man, I knew "Isn't It A Pity" would be the last track! Cool...
I prefer that the final song of their final album is the last song they recorded together, The End. It says it all.
I always thought the song Band on The Run with the Beatles collaborating and building it, along with the engineering and production team contribution, would have made this a classically Beatles tune. Probably would have been the approximately the same but would have had that Beatles treatment to it and could have been really interesting.
I love your creative Beatles album covers. It would be great to hear The Beatles play these solo gems, if they hadn’t broken up. Very nice work.

Your Idea should be made into a cd , I would buy it!
I imagine a lot of us did this and Early on I made a lot of Beatle songs on 8 track or cassette but in 1997 from the cd's I downloaded the songs on my computer and each folder was a different album so I could play whatever I liked and so on. worked great. and also combined some solo work as you did.
I liked everything about The Beatles' Second Album.
Oh woman oh why is very underrated
Be great to see this album distributed. I know several that would buy it.
Watching your series of albums that never were, one song I wish had been written much earlier is Photograph. It would have been the well-anticipated, well-deserved collaboration between George and Ringo that could have complimented the Lennon and McCartney part ership splendidly. And it would have been a great closing number for their last album, and their career.

Yabbut George was the songwriter so it still comes down to that. Plus, and this is a bit of a stretch, with the whole band working on it, possibly somebody might have noticed the similarity and coaxed him to change it up.
George having one more track than John and Paul really shows what a fantasy this album is! Without the end of the Beatles we wouldn’t have got all things must pass, and thank god for that!
For the final album , you need to include songs from the ringo album, like photograph and I'm the greatest being as they are beatles collaborations indirectly.
I love that you caught the Imagine/Uncle Albert transition. I made my own four albums through 1974 and that combo is one of the most striking. Great picks! - mine diverged a bit, but I think you make a good case for yours. Only disagreement is that I think Too Many People and Back Seat of My Car are by far the stronger Ram contributions. (Oh Woman, Oh Why can stay though!)

What an excellent choice of songs.. It would be so easy to have compiled all the 'solo' hits from this era to make a wonderful album.. But I like the fact that you chose some obscure songs , which more than likely were written with the same enthusiasm as the hits they wrote not knowing weather or not they would be hits or not...( On a side note : Except for Ringo Starr, during the 1970-75 years, Lennon-Harrison-McCartney ,these 3 each had 'sole producers credits for the albums they released). 🎼 👊😎 🎼

Except where Phil Spector worked with George on ATMP and John's 'Rock & Roll.....
Paul's "contributions" to Last Album could have used John's guitar and lower harmonies, and My Sweet Lord might have been been a stronger song with John and Paul singing the "hallelujah" harmonies.
I would LOVE to purchase one of those "Beatles '70" and "The Last Album" record slicks......are they for sale?

Too bad they didn't do this album, it would have given some kind of closure to the greatest band that ever was.
Again a strong record. I think I’d swap Uncle Albert for Too many people and Deep Blue for Art of dying. That should rock it up sufficiently I wouldn’t touch side two... well done sir :)

Altough you made quite a nice tracklist I'm not sure I would do the same album, especially considering some of the choices that I think were being made already with solo carrees in mind (Imagine, My Sweet Lord, Heart of The Country)... I think a bit later than the selections for this hypothetical album, but a great song for sure. One of his very best.
I recall an article in a school newsletter around the same time period, 71 or so. It was based on an imaginary LP titled "The Beatles Apart".
This is the 1971 Beatles album I made many years ago. Side One: Imagine Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey Deep Blue Gimme Some Truth All Things Must Pass Smile Away (I re-imagine this one with Ringo as the lead singer - and the entire group having a blast with this track) Side Two: Oh My Love Too Many People Let It Down (acoustic demo version - which is so beautiful) Jealous Guy Dear Boy It's So Hard Isn't It A Pity I could hardly believe that you had the exact same 3 songs starting your LP as mine - and the same song ending it. Amazing coincidence. My only real criticism of your selections - is "Blindman". How could you possibly choose that over "Back Off Boogaloo"??? "Back Off Boogaloo" is my all time favorite Ringo solo track. I absolutely LOVE the drums that open the track - and Harrison's guitar play is stellar. I didn't use "Boogaloo" for my 1971 solo Beatles LP... because I had it on the 1972 solo Beatles album.
@popgoesthe60s52
3 жыл бұрын
I've never had some one have the first 3 songs the same as mine! As for Back Off Boogaloo, I've only been luke warm on it. Notice I added plenty of non-hits for this album the the preceding Album That Never Was, Beatles '70 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/d2F_urapZrqqeZM.html) to create a more realistic Album. I actually really like Blindman. I've created several Albums That Never Were which have not been released yet so there that's why some seemingly obvious songs do not appear. Thanks for the comment!
Nice selections. So back then, with a new album usually came a new single too. Would you go with a couple of these album tracks issued as the A and B sides of a new single (in that case which ones?) or would you go with different early 70s solo material for the final Beatles single?
@popgoesthe60s52

Presumably one of the other Beatles, or George Martin, would have told George it sounded too much like "He's So Fine" and to change it.
Well done! Quite a few KZreadrs have done their own imaginary versions, most with 14 tracks.. I’m curious as to why all have neglected selecting singles to go along with the Albums..Picking A side “hits” and B side deeper cuts would certainly change available tracks for proposed LP’s, yes? Cheers🍏☮️❤️
Will you re-do this and beatles 70 in cannon with your get back and abbey Road videos? I do this all the time. Fun exercise as well as an excuse to hear some groovy music. My listings for a final album: Instant Karma, My Sweet Lord, Maybe I'm Amazed, Photograph, What Is Life, Jealous Guy, All Things Must Pass, Uncle Albert..., It Don't Come Easy, Imagine, Junk and Love.

I love doing these too - especially designing the covers. Some people get angry over it.... I can't see why.
I did this in the early Nineties. I made a tape (with a self-painted sleeve) with my favourite Songs of McCartney, Lennon & Harrison of the early post-Beatles era and called it a Beatles Album. I bet I am not the only one who ever did this..

Yes, you are one of many who enjoyed making mix tapes/playlists like. Surprisingly George Harrison did this in the early 70s as well - he made a comp of solo Beatles songs.
The ‘Albums That Never Were’ covers are great! I have a love/hate relationship with the unsophisticated design of The Beatles American releases. Out of interest, how did you put the printed versions together?

These were expensive and time consuming. I deal with a lot of printers in my line of work so after I had the designs completed, I purchased blank album covers and assembled them. A big pain in the ass, but I love the final result.

There are a few producers that I feel would make for a good video. Shel Talmy comes to mind. Thank you for the suggestion.

@@popgoesthe60s52 Yeah. Thank you . When have you got more videos out. Thanks Steve, from Liverpool
I really enjoyed this gentleman's "Albums That Never Were" series. I have only watch two, but the whole thing was very entertaining. "Beatles '70" was well put together and very, very good, and "The Beatles Last Album," I thought was brilliant. This is a fun thing to do for a Beatle fan! Almost every single song that the guy picked, I would have picked too. His tastes and mine are very, very close except I have five changes. I would nix "Eat at Home," "Cold Turkey," "What is Life," "Heart of the Country," and "Awaiting on You" and instead I would have included "Crippled Inside" (great piano), "Teddy Boy," "Give Ireland Back to the Irish," "I Live for You," and "The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp." Of course, every Beatle fan has his or her favorite early Beatle solo works, and that's the way it naturally should be. I was surprise by "Blindman!" One of the great things when Beatle fans "talk" is that we get each other enthused to go back home and listen to a song that we may have not played in a while. I have forgotten what "Blindman" even sounds like because it is a flip side, but I know that I have it somewhere. (Thank you.) Someone reading this may want to play the understated but absolutely brilliant "Deep Blue" and the country-flavored "I Live for You." Both tunes are "worth their weight in gold" to me. Sir, thank you for putting these videos together. They are a lot of fun. Ran Charles Collins

Thank you for the warm comment, Mr. Collins. This has always been a fun exercise and I always enjoy seeing everybody's selections. There are never two alike! I love designing the covers! More to come.
I like your choices. How about a Beatles 70 to 74 double best of..green or orange...lots of hits!

That is one I've been working on! Stay tuned.
Hi, thanks for this suggestion of a 1970/71 Beatles LP, it´s one I´ve actually thought about for several years ... having come up with my own solution - and interestingly with a similar division of 4+4+4+1 (or 2, depending on the running time). Here is my „Last Beatles-LP“: "What Is Life" (Harrison) - 4:22 "Another Day" (Paul & Linda McCartney) - 3:42 "Instant Karma!" (Lennon) - 3:35 „It don´t come easy“ (Starkey/Harrison) - 3:02 "Imagine" (Lennon) - 3:01 "Every Night" (Paul McCartney) - 2:31 "Beware of Darkness" (Harrison) - 3:48 24:01 "Maybe I'm Amazed" (Paul McCartney) - 3:53 "Jealous Guy"(Lennon) - 4:14 "Run of the Mill" (Harrison) - 2:49 - or "All Things Must Pass" - 3:44 "Dear Boy" (Paul & Linda McCartney) - 2:12 "Gimme Some Truth" (Lennon) - 3:16 "Isn't It a Pity (Version One)" (Harrison) - 7:10 23:34 / 24:29 total 47:35 / 48:30 Alternative instead of Instant Karma: Give Peace A Chance - it would be very interesting what The Beatles would have made out of this simple sing-along ... maybe something similar to All You Need Is Love. In my opinion several songs on my list are stronger than the ones you suggested, especially Beware Of Darkness and Maybe I´m amazed (one of best Paul´s songs ever). I omitted My Sweet Lord because of the later legal issues. Only 13 songs because the running time is already way over 45 minutes. Of course it was never going to happen. It´s definitely a pity. Cheers.
