How does Mike know all this stuff? I mean what guitars they used, amps they plugged into, and who did what! This is a treasure trove of Beatles info! I wish he was around when I was younger. I would buy these books at the music store but they seemed to be on piano. Then my old turntable would spin a bit slow sometimes making the song seem to be in a different key. Humbling to realize I had a lot of these songs wrong although we got through them.

Sympathy John, back in the day I would spend a long time trying to tune my Strat copy with a pitch pipe only to find the turntable would run a bit slower on the outside of the record and a bit faster towards the middle - never really in tune!

Man, that Rickenbacker sounds like garbage! It's like a damn toy guitar (w/that tiny neck. Heh!) My first student guitar in 1977 had more balls. And man, the whole "leaning out of tune" bit had me cackling. What was John smoking. To have any serious interest in using a Rickenbacker just seems like clinical insanity. No matter, it worked. And it's all part of the Beatles tapestry of delight. Mike, you're awesome. Thanks for all the fantastic instructional videos! Great vocals too. 😎 Your "I AM THE WALRUS" clip is still my favorite. Brilliant break down of utter genius. Not ironically, my favorite Beatles song too. Marc ⚡ p.s. re: "Hold Me Tight"... I know you know, but capo on the first fret would make this less of a slog, methinks.

I love the With The Beatles album but Hold Me Tight was my always my least favorite. Paul's vocals were all over the place! Your version gave it what it needed! A short note - many years ago, me and my two friends got to record some songs at a studio, and one of my friends insisted we do Hold Me Tight. It came out nice though - I played a a nice digital bass part throughout and did a little singing!

I really enjoy these detailed evaluations and demos by Mike Pachelli. This one is no exception, enjoyable. I might add far more enjoyable that the Beatles recording of this song. I was drawn to this video because I always have had "Hold Me Tight" as my #1 song on my personal list of all time worst Beatles songs. As Mike alludes to, a lot of the disappointment in this song is probably related to production issues. The tune has potential and I have heard some live versions by others that were pretty decent, but the Beatles recording of this is pretty sub-par. I agree with John Lennon on this one.

This is the first of your videos I've stumbled upon! I'm a guitar player, played this song in several bands, since 1964 when we first heard it. You are amazing! I love all the history and details! I have always known the Beatles recorded it in the key of E, (and Paul and John both considered it an album filler, neither never really liked it) and (George Martin?) or someone pushed the recording up to "F". I would never attempt to play it in "F"! But, you do! I'm impressed! Now.. at 17:36, you provide us with an amazing compilation of you playing all the instruments. My big question: (having never seen any of your other videos which must be outstanding!), DO YOU REALLY PLAY the Hofner Bass LEFT HANDED??? Or do you play a right hand bass, and flop the video for us to make it look like you play it left handed, just like Paul? If you do play it leftie, I'm blown away!

There is a short snippet of the original Please Please Me version on one of the sessions bootleg. It almost sounds like the song There's a place. It has the same drum beat and it's not as heavy as the version that was released on With/Meet The Beatles. Story has it that they used the same reel of tape to record the new version over the old one, wiping the old one in the process, as they claim that it was done to save on tape cost. A fresh reel of tape is a small price to pay in exchange for having the old version available.

I play most of these tuned a half step down on my epiphone Les Paul studio with 11 gauge strings. Sounds absolutely beautiful. Your video’s definitely help fill in some of the blanks so to speak on the voicing of the chords and things.
Loving your Daking comps and that distressor! Outstanding!
Great! Thanks for posting!

I was waiting for month for this one!! Cheers Mike🙏
Such an underrated song. Thanks for posting this! Very helpful.
Simply the best Mike, great breakdown of individual parts, keep them coming, I love The Beatles numbers,🤘
You are a walking Beatles encyclopedia ! Thanks for sharing knowledge, especially your great attention to detail 👍

I love the fact that while you're massively into The Beatles, (and generously share your passion and gift) you look quite bit like Eric Clapton!
Fantastic, Mike - well done!!
I have to disagree with John on this one: This was a Great song! 👏🏻🖖. As always, Mike, You tha man! 🥂
Thanks for that lesson. Excellent as always!
one of their best early songs always loved it!!
Great work Mike you are the Best!
Mike you are brilliant. Thank you so much!
I dont know how long you spend on producing these lessons but know this, l appreciate it and thank you. Although l am an ordinary guitar player, l love having a crack. Cheers Jenno
Luved watching your show from Tampa Florida in the eighties. Cool
Love those early songs!
When I play it I just do it in E to keep it simple with the open E A, and B chords. I capo it if I play along with the recording. Thanks, Mike.
Congrats on the 100k subs. Very well deserved. I remember getting my first bootleg many many years ago and it had an early alternate take of Hold Me Tight without the vocals and I was wowed by the guitar parts.

Well, I guess I must be a musical ignoramus, then ! LOL... I've been a fan since 1963, and it's one of my favorite early songs of theirs. It absolutely rocks, and, to me ? It's a pure joy to listen to, complete with their enthusiastic clapping tossed in for good measure - SO full of life, and fun ! :)
Thanks Mike. It feels so right, now! This much-maligned rocker is about as positive as it gets.
I’m sure playing a Rickenbacker guitar like that would put anyone in a silly mood. Way to be of good cheer.
Great job Mike. It’s a strange little song. I always noticed the “Now” and “So” conflict on the vocals. I think John did it on purpose sometimes! As usual George’s part adds so much.
Great stuff Mike. Again you are so meticulous. I'm glad that you mentioned that it was actually done in E. I have a "take" where you hear an open E just before they start playing the song.
Great job, Mike! 😎
Thanks for the breakdown Mike. Top notch as usual. There are only a handful of bad Beatles songs and this is one of them. It’s amazing how fast they developed into great songwriters.

Hey Mike, you've just made this song a lot more interesting to listen to! And George always comes up with great accents and textures that add so much. 👍👍 But a Marshall on a Beatles track???😮😄
Great lesson Mike, although I always thought this was more of a Rutles song than a Beatles composition.😊
Well done ...that was fab..
Even Paul didn't like that song so much. But as a kid it was one of my favorites.
Man, sell that 325 and shop for another. Mine has zero issues of tuning instability but it is on the slightly heavier side. Running RickySounds compressed 12-54 strings eliminated all buzzing and bridge rattle as well. Plays and sounds great! Killer lesson as always Mike!
Your channel is the best
If I were to play it out I think I'd do it in E.. what a great song Mike! Great job as always..

I don't care what ANYBODY says, this song is rockin'. I honestly don't believe the flaws are near as egregious as everyone seems to think. One of their most underrated songs, if you ask me.
just yesterday i was looking for a htp on this song and then i found this on the front page
YEAAAAH ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO 🎉
Damn, the lead George plays is a hell of a workout on the hand first time trying that pattern of playing. I usually play chords but have been branching out to incorporate some leads into my style of playing too.
I like this song, It's got it's quirks but it had a lot of potential that was never quite fulfilled. Most bands couldn't hold a candle to the Beatles and would've killed to have a song like this.
Punchier than the original Beatles version. I like it!
Why a throwaway. One of my favorites
One of the funnest Beatles songs EVER. TWO MINUTES of PURE JOY! Paul's vocal is cool though I get they raised the pitch.
You are great and crazy at the same time.
You amaze me
Hey Mike. Thanks for your great tab. I always loved this song and also the album. A while ago you did a video on uncommon chords of the With the Beatles album. For almost every song you did meanwhile an own video. How about doing a video of the two missing songs: "All I've Got To Do and Don't Bother Me ... Devil In Her Heart has also some uncommon chords. Stephan
I always thought it was a muddy mix but it's chugging rhythm is incurably infectious. One of their worst? C'mon John, it's one of your best!
Hey. This is a real rocker !!
When I first listened to this song, I thought those 12 bar blues patterns were played by John, but I guess I was wrong.
MIKE KNOWS HIS STUFF I DONT KNOW HOW HE GOT ALL THIS INFO
Came here for Ringo, stuck around for Mike. ;-)

Ringo thanks you! (and me too)
It always impresses me that you play the guitars right handed but the bass left handed!!!!😮
I wore my Mike P High Standards tee to my ultrasound pathology appointment today. For good luck.

Mike, awesome lesson here. I always loved this song and thought it had some heavy guitars for the time. Can you point out where you feel the singing is out of tune?
Love this thanks! I’ve got a couple of Ricks with flat wound strings and set up right by a Rick guy. They never go out of tune. Maybe it’s a problem with the short-scale?
Nice! Please do more of the "Abbey Road" Side B medley songs!
Hey man I love the channel, I'm a huge beatles fan! Have you thought of breaking down "In Spite of all the Danger"? Or "Like Dreamers Do"?
Your videos are so good! Wondering what part of the song is dissident? I’m going to try that Beatle F chord! :)
awesome
Another great lesson Mike--thank you! I love everything on this channel, but the Beatles song lessons are the best lessons OF ANY KIND out there. Is "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" on your list for any time soon? Or perhaps I've missed it... Thanks again!

@@MPfrance I’m so sorry to hear it-such a great tune and one of my all-time favorites of theirs. I didn’t even know it was George singing lead-just assumed it was John-so I’ll have to start paying closer attention. Your sound-alikes are all awesome, so I’m sure you could pull it off wonderfully!
Good one Mike
Fantastic! Are you really playing left handed bass or is it a photo flip? If you are, WOW! If you're not, WOW, too! You are an amazing musician.

Thanks and the bass is flipped in editing. I feel it sacrilegious to see a McCartney bass part played right handed.
You played bass and sang Paul's part. You sir, are awesome! That's a shame about the Rick going out of tune.
Cool song. Oft neglected or forgotten
I'm subscribed with the bell selected on. Why is YT not sending me notifications?!
I can see why they didn't play this LIVE....Many intricate parts that have to be in sync perfectly to get that driving melody. I kind of liked the imperfections in this....shows the rushed recording schedule they were under...
Wow great job! Just curious; what are you go-to mics for vocals? I’m in the market for a mic suited to vocals. If you can suggest a couple of options that would be great. Thanks

CJ - It really depends on the sound I'm looking for. Mostly for Beatles I use a Neumann U87 (I have 4 of them) - I also like the Neumann U47 and TLM 103 and a Sontronics Delta (ribbon mic) but, the preamp and compressor makes A LOT of difference. I have a number of them, Telefunken V72, La Chapelle 992, Toft EC-1, DBX 286A, ART PRO MPA II, ART PRO MPA, Empiracle Labs Distressor, Universal Audio 1176, Daking 91579, etc. etc. Oh yeah - I did do a video on an inexpensive U87 clone. see: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4GZ1tapoKafm8Y.html
