i dont get it! what's magical there? Ive seen a number of youtube singers cover Beatles songs way better. Hearing the original was disappointment.

The Beatles were a musical miracle. They were the greatest band in history, and nobody else has ever come close. They laid the foundation for so much of what has been taken for granted in popular music over the past sixty years. It is impossible to calculate the depth and reach of their influence on popular music.

Yes THE greatest band in the world of all time.

Paul was not singing to his son, he was singing to John's son Julian. One of my favourite Beatles songs. Their music is timeless.

The first time I saw Paul live, he ended the main set, before the encore, with Hey Jude. We na na na-d for 20 minutes. Then, he came back. We were still na na na-ing. He joined us. It went on for about another 5 minutes.

The child that Paul wrote the song for was John Lennon's son, Julian. The song started out as "Hey Jules," but Paul changed it to Jude to not be so directed at Julian. As the song developed, you can tell that Paul was also directing it at John Lennon, who had recently left his wife (Cynthia) and became a somewhat scandalous item with Japanese-American artist Yoko Ono. That makes lines in the song make more sense, such "You have found her, now go and get her." Great song... one of the all-time best.

I think Julian knew the song was for him. As I understand it, a big part of the reason it was changed from Jules (Julian's nickname) to Jude is because the hard “d” sound at the end of the syllable is better for singing purposes than the “ls” sound. Ending on a sibilant sound is particularly challenging for singers.

End of the Beetles is coming, I was a kid and loved this track on our mono radio before school. It's well documented that John didn't like this song for reasons stated, including the band not liking Yoko much especially during recordings. But here is the record breaker, this being the longest Beetles song of 5 mins plus depending on the version you listen too.

I always say; The Beatles sit on the top shelf! Untouchable! Then there is everyone else. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of everyone else's that are brilliant too. But nobody competes with The Beatles. Nobody! Beautiful!

They were ahead of their time. Consider the song "She's Leaving Home," It's wild how these guys, so young, could dive into such deep stuff about growing up and family dynamics. "The movement you need is on your shoulder" was originally a placeholder lyric until Paul thought of something better. John heard it and convinced him to leave it in. To me, it's the best line in the song.

And that my friends is how you write the perfect song.Timeless.❤

Simple genius writing and a heartfelt performance

Even though the Beatles broke up when I was 4½ years old I grew up with their music. I became a big fan as a teenager and my favorite concert experience of all time was when I finally got to see Paul McCartney live in 1990. The concert was everything I imagined but near the end when he sat at the piano and started playing Hey Jude and got to the end where the entire arena sang along I thought back to this video and had the most surreal moment ever.

Paul was at peak form as a composer and performer with this song, and the Beatles gave him the perfect accompaniment. Nobody can resist singing along with this track, even today as Paul performs it in concert.

Definitely one of my top 5 music vids ever. Just posted it again a few days ago. Even if someone doesn't like them, they are *factually always going to be the biggest, most iconic, most innovative, and most influential band of all time, even to artists that don't realize their influence upon them due to chain reactions over the years of building blocks. They changed culture itself. Great reaction !

Thanks for posting this. This was my late Father's favourite Beatles song and it brings a tear to my eye whenever I hear it.

You definitely MUST react to more Beatles’ music. Try with The Long and Winding Road, Let It Be, All My Loving, Michelle, A Day In the Life, Hey Bulldog, I Am The Walrus, Here Comes The Sun… and if you like Paul’s writing and composing, you should definitely check out his solo material and the stuff he wrote with Wings, especially tracks like Band On The Run, Coming Up, Here Today, Monkberry Moon Delight, Live And Let Die, Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five, Silly Love Songs, Maybe I’m Amazed, Let ‘Em In, Ebony And Ivory (with Stevie Wonder)… If you want other stuff from their solo careers, I think George’s I’ve Got My Mind Set on You, When We Was Fab, and his song with the Traveling Wilburys, Handle With Care… and pretty much anything he ever recorded on his own. Just like Paul, he had great ear for melody. I do have to admit I’m firmly a Paul girlie though so I’m more on the side of pushing the Macca propaganda. But yeah, if you want to look deeper into their music there is a whole beautiful world to explore! If you want to listen to their albums as a band, I recommend Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and if you wanna check out their earlier albums I recommend With The Beatles, Help! and A Hard Day’s Night. But, honestly, finding a least worthy album among theirs is really hard. My favorite is Abbey Road, and it’s the one I always recommend the most. So there’s that.

The big power of many Beatles songs (especially the ones written by Paul) is they make you emotional and you do not always know why. It is as if our genes know when what we listen to is of exceptional quality. It needs no explanation why we get all emotional listening to Hey Jude. Every time I hear it I have goose bumps even after so many years ...

The Beatles hit America when I was 14 and have been part of my musical life ever since. I've literally heard all their songs hundreds of times, to the point where they were playing, but I quit actually listening to them. And "Hey Jude" was one of those songs. Its immense popularity caused it to be overplayed on the radio to the point where I started changing the channel when it came on. Hard to believe, I know. But your reaction video has made me hear it and appreciate it again, for the first time in decades. Seeing and hearing it through your eyes is like a fresh look at an old favorite that I long ago started taking for granted. Your other videos have had a similar, and very unexpected, effect on me also. So thank you for honoring the incomparable genius that was the Beatles and allowing me to appreciate their music again like I did when it first swept across America like a tsunami.

Singing for Julian. Uncle Paul wrote this for John's son and for John himself, he is telling John to go after Yoko as well as consoling John's child during the divorce of his mom and dad.

Yeah, watching the Beatle's sing Hey Jude still gets me emotional after all these years :) I had the privilege of seeing Paul McCartney in concert a few years ago and when he led the entire audience in the chorus of Hey Jude, it was a highly spiritual experience !!

I love how they clown around with each other.

They were larking about before the start of their song and just before paul sang the opening line he whispered a variation of the vocal in a little practice of that line, all proving it as a live performance, the emotion gets to you when the audience all come together to join in the songs crescendo. The Beatles, best band ever.

Nearly every Beatles song had something new and unique in it, musically and/or lyrics. The vocal harmonies were extraordinary for a rock N Roll band.

I used to write Hey Jude in bold letters on the old-fashioned chalk blackboard before form teacher came back after lunch. "Who did that?" "I know it's No1 but everyday I have to rub it off". This record one of the many pop anthems that Beatles and others produced. All you need is Love etc etc. Oh so lucky to have been growing up during this period. Pop music played on school bus, transistor radios under the bed covers at night. I reckon it helped us get through school and exams endbof 60s.

I recall sitting watching this on that night , the David frost show, magical I was 13 at the time!

Now you know how we felt about this great song growing up in the 60s and 70s. I still believe that the Beatles were the greatest group ever!

I was about 9 years old when this aired, and I still go back to this moment in time when I need some warmth. My Mom used to sit down and listen with me when I played this on my stereo; a memory I will always treasure. Great upload.

I think that the four of them were the greatest music generating machine the world has seen. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison spent their late teenage years in Hamburg as full time musicians, literally playing eight hours a day, every day. They became expert musicians and judging by their lyrics, which are way beyond their years, they lived life at the max. I don't think that there is another song with a chorus that is so universally recognizable, and easy to sing along with. Yes, do more Beatles. My favorite is She Loves You, a 1963 pop banger that for many years was the largest selling single ever in the UK, but which never made it to Number 1, because their I Want to Hold Your Hand peaked at the same time.

The Beatles did so many things first in their music and they still influence bands today, they were masters of their profession. They had two great vocalists Paul and John, even Ringo and George could sing, they were the perfect band. Here we are 60 years later still listening to their music, how many bands can say that.

They're actually singing over the actual recording, but it doesnt detract from the awesomeness. Even harder to believe is that none of them were yet 30 when they broke up. Imagine 20 year olds with the catalogue of music that they created.

That break/transition moment leading to the outro gets me every single time. Sublime.

I've always (since 196 9:34 9) said that Paul's lyric "Well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool by making his world a little colder" is one of best ever written, he cleverly makes use of the various ways in which the word 'cool' had been used, rhymes it with 'fool', and makes it meaningful as a maxim too! The Beatles' lyrics were always a guide to life and love (and peace), including their early romantic love songs like 'She Loves You' with the lyrics "Pride can hurt you too. Apologize to her.", or 'You're Gonna Lose That Girl', 'Can't Buy Me Love', etc.

It's very cool that during their last 2-3 years as a band, They got closer to their fans than they'd ever been..Including the impromptu rooftop concert around a year later, where many got to see them close-up and sit near them one last time.( The building was in the middle of London's business district, all offices workers left their desks to find the best seat on nearby roofs) Fun reaction!

When i see that video it gives me shivers to think of that time in history. They were around 25yo, famous around the world, musicians, composers, songwriters, with a live broadcast television appearance that was unique and special for the time. But all of that was reasonably reasonable, but the step beyond is that this was of their making, they were on control of it, not simply being an exploitable boy band. All tat together made them so incredibly influential beyond any influencer you could think of since. if you're old enough, many of the people on stage were also recognizable celebrities and pop stars.

Hi there. Few people mention the fact that there's black people and Indian, in the crowd wich is something you would not see often by then. The Beatles practice the "we're all the same humanity. They allways refused to play to segregated audiences when it was rule in USA. Great musicians and great souls 😊

The first time I played this song for my son, he was about 4...and he picked up the na na na part at the end and sang along. It was cool to hear him to do that.

That little song in the beginning was The Beatles doing the theme song to that TV show.

Paul wrote this song for John's son Julian, originally singing "Hey Jules," as Paul was driving out to see Julian after John and his first wife Cynthia got divorced in 1968. John also interpreted this song as John singing to John, saying, "You have found Yoko (waiting for someone to perform with), so go out and be with her now," which John did in a series of concerts and avant garde artistic events.

they began by playing, by ear, the theme to "the david frost show," the show they were appearing on. after david frost's intro they went into a intentionally bad rendition of "its now or never" a popular elvis song released in 1960. the beatles had a particularly odd and often self-deprecating sense of humour. this is an excellent video of "hey jude" but the recorded, studio version of the song is even better. this was the 2nd biggest selling song of the 60s. topped only by "sugar, sugar" by the archies of all things. thanks for the video.

@@StanEngland... its a catchy tune. that's for sure. personally i like it. a lot of the super-pop and novelty songs from the 60s and early 70s were actually quite good. unlike the corporate created pop crap that replaced it later. and that we still suffer from today. i wonder, are the archies in the r&r hall of fame? everyone else and their dog is. why not include a non-existant, cartoon band as well?

The. Greatest. Ever.

It's been almost 60 years since the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan and 53 years since they broke up. And, here we are, almost 60 years later and people are still talking about them, there are people who are just being introduced to them and their songs are still being played and they will still be talked about in another 60 years. No other band will come close to what the Beatles did. They were amazing!!!
