In all fairness, while they are singing and playing their instruments, they did have a backing track to fill out the sound. This was on the David Frost Show (1968). They had quit touring in 1966. But you are right. No autotune, etc. Just talent. In their case, something from another level. Keep in mind as you journey down this very deep rabbit hole, none of the members could read or write music. I suggest not starting here at 'Hey Jude'. Start at the beginning to get the real perspective and witness what is essentially just a pop band change music forever.

Between 1962 and 1970 the Beatles and their producer George Martin created HUNDREDS OF SONGS of every genre. From soft sweet beautiful ballads to hard core rock and roll and they're even credited with recording the first heavy metal song. They explored every kind of song. Their versatility is breathtaking. No computers, no auto tune. Just talent. I believe people will be listening to their music 200 years from now.

Nice to see people discover The Beatles. The four members are John Lennon (rhythm guitar), Paul McCartney (bass), George Harrison (lead guitar) and Ringo Starr (drums). All four members performed lead vocals on different songs, although John and Paul dominated them. Most songs were also written by Lennon/McCartney, although George and Ringo did write some too. The band was together with this lineup for their whole recording career (7 years), although Ringo was bought in from a band called Rory Storm and The Hurricanes to replace previous drummer Pete Best, who was let go for not being a good studio drummer. Additionally, there used to be a fifth member, Stuart Sutcliffe, who was on the bass when Paul was a second rhythm guitarist. Stuart and John came up with the name Beatles, as a pun on beat and beetles, although originally the name was The Silver Beatles. Before that, the band was known as Johnny and the Moondogs, and briefly Japage 3 as a three-piece band (John, Paul, George). The first name they used was The Quarrymen (named after John's high school, Quarry Bank), which is sometimes considered the same band, sometimes another band which the Beatles evolved from. Ringo and Paul are still going strong (so is Pete), unfortunately the other members of the band are dead. Stuart died at 21 of a brain haemorrhage, John was assassinated in December 1980 in New York whilst heading home from the recording studio with his wife, Yoko Ono (you may have heard that she split the Beatles up. This is largely exaggerated and many factors contributed to the split), and George died from lung cancer in November 2001. As for the song, Hey Jude was written by Paul during John's divorce from his first wife, Cynthia, to comfort his son Julian. Julian Lennon, who has since become a musician himself, released an album called Jude in 2022, with a picture of himself as a child as the album cover. Several of the Beatles children became musicians. Zak Starkey (Ringo's eldest) plays drums for The Who, James McCartney, Paul's son, is a multi-instrumentalist and singer, as is Sean Ono Lennon. Dhani Harrison, George's only child, is a guitarist and singer for the bands thenewno2 and Fistful of Mercy.

Quite a lovely story behind this song. The Beatles were a very tight knit group. Loved each other like brothers and were active in each others lives. John and Paul had an especially close bond and when John left his first wife and son, Julian for his new love interest, Yoko Ono, Paul went to John's ex wife and son with a single red rose offering his condolences and expressed his solidarity to them, particularly to Julian who he called, 'Jules' (he changed the song name to Jude because it sounded better). He began writing this song based off of that meeting. The message is twofold. Paul's solidarity to Julian as his forever "Uncle Paul" and his call for him to try to accept his father's new wife as well as a message to John to try and not make the same mistake of not opening his heart and allowing his new love to see him for who he really is as John had a propensity to keep himself closed up to avoid being hurt by others. The overall message, love heals. Open your heart.

Each member is a legend. The lead singer here is Paul McCartney, also the bassist. John Lennon plays guitar, George Harrison lead guitar, and Ringo Starr on the drum kit. Unfortunately two have passed: John, assassinated in 1980 and George, of cancer in 2001. Lennon/McCartney are considered among, if not, the greatest songwriting team in rock history. Harrison, who could barely get his songs on their albums, wrote some of their masterpieces and would have been considered great as a prime writer for most any other band. They each had stellar solo careers after the Beatles breakup in 1970.

I've Said It Again” by Bobby Vinton, “Louie Louie” by The Kingsmen, “Dominique” by The Singing Nun (yes! A real nun), “Popsicles and Icicles” by The Murmaids and “The Nitty Gritty” by Shirley Ellis. (You would have fun listening to these!) Young men all had short hair or crewcuts and were always clean shaven, and everyone followed the rules. You really must put yourself in that time period. Then, here come The Beatles. They have outrageously long hair! They’re irreverent when talking to the press! They write their own music! (This was RARELY done.) They are obviously having FUN! We, as a country, were in mourning in 1964. Our young, handsome President had been assassinated just two months before. The Beatles were “candy” for a grieving country, especially the youth. Some people today say that The Beatles are over-rated and that could possibly make sense if you’ve only listened to a few of their songs. Where The Beatles stand out is when you view their accomplishments in their entirety. ____________________________________________________________________________ They had 27 #1 hits in the US and UK. (And only recorded from 1963 to 1970.) They are the only band to ever have the top five positions in the Billboard Top 100 (April 4, 1964, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “Please Please Me.”). The Beatles were groundbreaking and influenced everyone who has come since.

OKay, I'm an "old guy," Bachelor's Degree in music...You're a "cool dude" for diving into the Beatles. This was the Beatles at the top of their game in 1968. I was 12. Some music critics were saying for about 6 months the Beatles were through, blah blah blah [around August / September of 1968]. They hadn't released a song on a single record [45 rpm] since March 1968 [Lady Madonna] or an album since Dec 1967 [Magical Mystery Tour]. Then they came out with Hey Jude backed by Revolution in Sept 1968, followed by the "White Album" a double album [ 2 vinyls, 4 sides]..and kicked the critics' ass into the ground forever. the Beatles brought people together....so what the hell are we doing now? Separatism in music, every one off in their own little genre and angry corner...the Nasty Media doesn't help either. Recently the 2 Beatles left on earth combined a John Lennon recording, which included the late George Harrison on guitar from a 1995 attempt at the song, combined with a new attempt to do it, with modern tchology that could spearate Lennpn's voice from the piano on his old demo tape and clean it up, but with NO Autotune.. It's called "Now and Then" and for a few weeks they again brought the world back together, a little, if only for curiosity. Paul MCartney [now 81] is singing at the piano here, and Ringo Starr [now 83] on drums...they are the only two Beatles left alive.

Besides being the greatest band in Rock-n-roll history, their music included every conceivable style of music often mashed into each other. The music was always positive. It's hard to find a bad song by them. But they were always joking around too. Talented, always positive and sometimes irreverent. I have two suggestions from their broad catalog. 1) Hey Bulldog video. An often overlooked classic showing their Rock-n-roll talent. 2) You Know My Name, Look Up The Number. A jaunty little thing that almost nobody knows showing humor and a bit of irreverence.

When this new generation reacts to "old" music they use to be surprise about the quality of the bands. They could sing, they could play different instruments, they were charming... And I am surprised that they are surprised. I mean, there's no other way. You can of course make music with the last technology without being able to sing or knowing nothing about music. The computer makes everything for you, but what you feel when you listen to it is far away from real music. Just my opinion.

The two main band members are John Lennon (round glasses) and Paul McCartney (lead vocals on this song). In case you don't know, Lennon was assassinated in New York City in December 1980 (one of the biggest news stories of the late 20th Century). Firstly you should understand that the first thing they played was meant to be a joke because they were playing the theme tune for the talk show which they were on. Personally I'm sick of everyone playing only the later Beatle stuff like this tune and Let It Be and Imagine as primarily they were a rock band - capable of a variety of styles and not just this sugary stuff.

@@robinfoster7597 Their chord progressions did not get more sophisticated just their recording techniques. Their earlier songs were not worse for example I'll Be Back is way cleverer than Hey Jude.

When I was a kid, I told everyone that Sir Paul McCartney was going to be my husband, but first I was going to marry to marry Ringo Starr. I had no concept of divorce, I just knew Ringo was going to be my husband briefly then Sir Paul McCartney was going to be my forever husband 😂

Wow, this definition of classical music is so wrong in many ways… this is classic for its own genre but the music you’re referring to is absolutely not just for upper class people or royalty. I grown up listening the classic music of ‘700, ‘800 and early ‘900. The point is that often you have to be introduced to it properly but it’s a road that you can take by yourself too. It’s just a matter of passion for the music 😊
