These guys hadnt played live for 3 years before this, decided on a whim to record a gig on the rooftop, went out and did it into a cold cold wind. Amazing musicians as well as songwriters. Also, a big nod of appreciation to Billy Preston on Keyboards, he really makes this song swing, you can see him in the background.

Fun fact in case you didn't know; that guitar that John is playing was originally a sunburst finish, that he stripped down to the bare wood. The company that makes it (Epiphone) got so many requests for it, that that they decided to offer that as a factory finish.

Both John and Paul could play keyboards so most of thier studio tracks had one or both doing some part if not then just a good studio musician. It had nothing to do with color. As said if anyone knows the Beatles, John’s in particular, view on civil rights they should know they would refuse to play anywhere it was segregated. Remember that was before MLK made his march on Washington. If blacks weren’t allowed the same seating and tickets as whites they wouldn’t agree to do it.

Catching up after a long time blocked. Filmed at the top of the Apple building (no, NOT that one!) in Saville Row, London, the Beatles played a great live set to the delight of the crowd gathered down below. Literally stopped the traffic! It was broken up eventually but is a great thumbnail picture of ‘Swinging London’ in the late 60’s. And how cool to have Billy Preston on keyboards too - 5 great musicians doing their thing. You can’t claim to know music if you don’t know the Beatles.😎🥂

On the rooftop of Abbey Road studios. The Beatles were the first rock band to perform on a rooftop. The Beatles were the biggest rock group in the world at this point. No other band on either side of the pond had ever had such a distinction, and the British media/tabloids were obsessed with them.

This clip is from their movie "Let It Be". The movie is them rehearsing the new music for their latest album. They didn't have an ending to the movie, so they just decided to go on the rooftop of their Apple building and play live. They were up there for 40 minutes before the business people complained to the police and they showed up at the Apple building to force them to stop playing. But because they were The Beatles, they let them keep playing till they got done. This performance was the last live Beatles performance in front of an audience. January 30, 1969. Keep reacting to The Beatles. I have watched others react to them and they haven't gotten blocked. Just go for it.

John sang many songs too, as well as George. The only one of the four who didn't sing a lot was Ringo, because he often wasn't very comfortable with doing it, but his few songs are fun to listen to (like Yellow Submarine, which is also the title of a very weird animated movie they did).

I’m a for real Beatles fan, loved them all but Lennon was my favorite, if you like Lennon on that listen to Dear Prudence, A Day In The Life, Strawberry Fields For Ever, man I could go on for hours and barely starch the surface but John, Paul, and George all had great classic songs

HOW do four Northern British boyz sound so funky, groovy, and soulful??! In 19 farkin' 69?!! It's GENIUS. Also, they come from the Northern English town of Liverpool, which is a multiracial port town like Oakland, CA. But, yeah, that John Lennon has IT and they were, the four of them, "WOKE" in knowing, finding out, feeling, giving back, way the phucke back in 1969 in ways that millions of White folks are just NOW getting around to considering TODAY, FIFTY YEARS LATER. Makes me cry watching and listening to Lennon sing IT -- and how George plays the sweet, jazzy guitar fills, Ringo swinging it like he's a néo-soul drummer, and Paul and Ringo coming in on the ONE. SHOUT OUT, can we puuleeeze, to BILLY PRESTON (see him playing keyboards at 1:30) , the American soul brother on keyboards--he was a longtime friend of the Beatles and played organ and keys on their late period classics (Let It Be, Come Together, Don't Let Me Down, etc.); PRESTON would became a famous funk-R&B rock star in his own right during the 1970s with Top Ten hits like "Nothing from Nothing," "Will It Go Round In Circles," "Space Oddity," etc. EASTER EGG: Billy became a star in his own right after the Beatles had broken up, but George Harrison, the Beatles lead guitarist, often played on Billy's records under an assumed name, and Billy and George often played together live, including the iconic Bangladesh Relief Concert together (1971)

It's easy to determine who wrote what, whether whole song or part by who sings lead. This was written by John.

Unfortunately the video doesn't show the great, soulful Billy Preston on keyboards, but you can sure hear him, especially near the end. RIP, Billy.
