The beast of all rotary followers on the DIY Myplasm CNC plasma table.

After a lot of cussing, the new and monster follower is here. Massive thanks to the guy that work for me. They all had some input.

Yeah, a bunch of stuff I don't like about it. Mainly how closed source it is. If there were a bunch more user options that would be cool. Things like allowing users to set feed rates from sheetcam or what ever.....myplasm strips out lot of gcode. Anyhow, thanks for the comments I really do appreciate it.

Great show have you though about using Aluminum for the construction to drop some weight. Not to worry about drawings those that want to copy for their use should be good enough of a fabricator to work it out, and should be willing to do the work. I know from myself with projects like this you put some of your own spin in it, but the over all picture is there, THANKS for posting and doing the leg work too. (: (:

Hey Rob, that is one hell of a beast! It is so cool that you've come up with that design and I'm sure the rotary plasma guys will be copying it, for sure. Would you consider building it out of aluminium, in order to reduce the weight, as it's gotta weigh in at 'heaps' right now. I don't have any work for a rotary plasma option but I feel like I have to build a rotary 'add-on' to my table now, so it continues to (sort of) resemble your table...well, your smaller one, at least, as that's where the inspiration came from for my table!

Hey Rusty I'm going to knock some super sized holes in the plates to reduce weight but to be honest the weight isn't affecting anything. Thanks for your comments. Hope all is well. P.S you need a rotary 😆

Hi Rob, Interesting build. I’m in the planning and gathering hardware stage of building my 1st table ( 4’x8’ ) and leaning towards using my plasma as the CNC controls. Are you using 5 motors on 4 axes and how are you doing it if so. I’m trying to understand how you are able to add a fifth motor on a 4 access CNC controller. Thanks. Tony

nice to see my project in action :) When it comes to maintaining the correct cutting speed in a corner, it is a difficult topic because in a short cutting section, the X, Z, A axes must cover long distances synchronously. Don't look at the cutting process but at the movement of the axis, it's no small distance ;). Unfortunately, each axis must move very dynamically so as not to slow down this process. I know where I can improve it but I don't have time for it at the moment, I'll come back to it. I noticed that you have major problems with positioning and you don't fully understand how it works. Once you establish a position, there is no need to change it. The program will calculate everything based on the rotation axis, which never changes (it shouldn't). Good Luck ! Lukas from Proma-Elektronika :)

Great job Rob, i have made a small plasma cutting machine with the same myplasma board from Proma and i would like to improve my machine with the rotary function as you did but i am not sure where to connect the rotary motor stepper on the board. I have two motor stepper for the y axe like you(y and y1) so there is no more free port on the board. Can you explane me how you wired the five motor on the proma board(1z 1x 2y and 1rotary) as there are only four port on the board? Thanks again and congratulations i have seen all your video and improvement on your cnc plasma and i think is the best i have found on the web. Very well done

Hi and thanks for the sub. Now, the way I did it was to feed the one Y axis into both drivers. That leaves you with a port free. So one y-axis signals goes to both motor drivers. Hopethat makes sense. Then you can allocate your A-axis Also you will need to wire in your A limit. That goes to Input1. . Good luck. If you get stuck let me know.

@@robbroomfield468 hi Rob Thank for your answer but i have one more question, at the moment the 4 axe is setted to "inverted y (in1 home) " because the y axis is moved by two motor that run in opposite direction if i put both motor driver in the dir pull y port how can they move in opposite direction? I immagine that you also have the two motors on the y axis that have to move simultaneously but in opposite directions or not? Furthermore the imput 1 is occupied by the y' home limit can i use the imput 2 that is free?

Hey, no problem. The direction problem is easy. Just swap one of the coil pairs over and the motor will run in reverse. What are you using the second limit for? You do only need one, unless you are using it to square the gantry. Let me know. R
