You see this grin on my face. . . ear to ear.
Richie’s episode had me in TEARS! I’ve been struggling myself with finding my purpose and seeing someone Richie’s age have that same struggle really spoke to my heart.
I think its aweseome that Carmy used his own resources and connected his Bear team with the people he trusts.
Love the photo of Carmy and Luca in the restaurant. He obviously called in favors to let his people stage at 2 places where most in the industry would dream of getting their foot in the door, let alone drop in and out just to learn.
When Richie brings back the pizza, he says, "corner, Behind, Behind Oliver, Behind". He mentions one of the chefs by name. Richie got to know who's who in the week & knows enough to give Oliver a pat on the back as he goes past. A brilliant, subtle touch to show how good Richie is with people.
This is genuinely my favorite episode, not just of The Bear, but of any TV show that I've seen so far this year. I'm really struggling at the moment to keep up with various things in my life, and this episode was like a bolt of lightning to my system. Incredible, incredible stuff. So full of wisdom and heart, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is unbelievable. First time I ever cried to Taylor Swift was in this episode lol

Funny that this episode is titled "forks" ...knowing how in the previous ep the fork played a big part through Mike but in an agressive way. It's like the writers said: now we're gonna give you forks again but in a much uplifting vibe !

They set us up perfectly. I had my doubts in the beginning.
I've seen some people guess that Chef Terry's father signed off every letter "Every second counts" They show that sign after Richie asked and we saw that sign when Marcus was training.

Richie being mad at Carmie is simply because he’s not going to evolve all at once, it’s a process, we go back and forth to our old habits on our self improvement journey, simply because it’s comfortable. He’ll mature. I teared up so many times watching this episode. I know so many Richies 😢 and I believe there’s a little bit of Richie in all of us. In myself for sure. This episode also shows you the power of ENVIRONMENT!! Changing your environment, surrounding yourself with excellence even when you think you’re not good enough to be there is such a powerful tool. Look at how he was forced to raise his standards, to meet the level of excellence around him ❤️, it’s scary but it’s worth it ! What a masterpiece!

100%. Good observations. I’m fully convinced this is why our parents taught us to be careful who we surround ourselves with. We become the people we spend time with. Elevate your environment, elevate your potential.
I also feel like the concierge, the younger woman liked Richie a little. I’d like to see that develop. I feel like he was living vicariously through Carmen and Claire and that’s why he was so upset when it didn’t work out.

The fact she looked multiple times back showed that she has some sort of interest in Richie which would be amazing for him. In general, just getting him outside of that circle that has created his former self is something he shd distance himself from and I wouldn't be surprised after the way szn 2 ended if he starts to venture into other side projects not involving his main surrounding group
@Zbeast5972

I also thought that, with her asking if he wanted to help do something and the look back. If I remember she also said she’d miss his presence? I could be reaching on that last one but I DEFINITELY felt she could be a potential love interest for him and I love that.
I noticed that Richie said he felt like the guy who just watches trains and in this episode we see richie and trains a lot!

Oh and the pizza wasn’t burnt on the ends it looked like perfect deep dish. Yep I’m from Chicago.😂

It’s “burnt” (carmelized) on purpose. The slices of cheese are placed intentionally above the crust before putting it in the oven.

@@mudball35 burnt and caramelized are two different things. If it's sweet it's caramelized, if it's bitter it's burnt. Rule number 1 of cooking, taste all the time. Someone once said: Brown is good, black is bad.
Instant classic in my opinion, would love to see more of this restaurant and bunch of characters in future seasons. Crazy they got Oscar winner Olivia Colman for such a short scene, but she's the perfect actress for the role, brings such gravitas to it. Loved the reaction and the discussion, of course.
I loved this episode so much. Probably my favourite alongside episode 6. To see Richie find his purpose after asking what his purpose was? to Carmy in Episode 1 was so satisfactory. I was feeling things watching this episode, tremendous writing and execution. What an episode!

Just now realized that her dad signed all of them with "Every second counts."
14:46 FYI guys, Pequod’s crust is like that. There’s cheese in the crust that gets extra crispy
13:37 Pequod’s Pizza does in fact do the burnt crust, so it is authentic 😊
The deep dish question thats connected to Richie’s character was a poignant connection, that I didn’t realize until you asked the question. I believe the connection of the deep dish is a nod at Chicago’s identity, which is a huge significance to Richie’s identity. Remember in season one, when all of the changes were coming about, his perspective was “everything’s changing and now we are kicking out the working man”. He has an attachment to what his identify represents. So, fast forward to this enlightening experience, he’s able to witness the internationality in fine dining doesn’t rob the customer of authentic Chicago experience! He believed that the changes of the restaurant meant that there’s no place for him anymore, since it’s no longer “Chicago” and now he sees that you can incorporate both into the experience. Thank you guys for such an awesome reaction. I just started watching and I love this show!
Lol Pequods is supposed to be carmalized crust, it’s not burnt. You’re about to get a bunch of chicagoans chiming in with the same thing lol Actually kinda annoyed they didn’t get to taste the crust. It’s fantastic.
OMG, what an episode! The writing was PHENOMENAL. The acting, as always, was outstanding. Who knew restaurant service could be this interesting? I mean come on!
Great reaction but my goodness the woman cannot stop knowing it all lol “see told you, the thing on screen right now that’s happening, you see that, yeah see I knew it.. he’s doin it! See!” 😂 come on girl you don’t gotta predict every single thing and pretend like you nailed every single one

I love how Taylor Swift’s Love Story is now an anthem for finding new purpose. Fell in love with the song all over again given it’s new light.
This is my FAV episode because its when Richie BELIEVES in the vision!!!!!
I worked at Victoria and Albert's, Disney's Four Star restaurant. It starts at $250 a person. We had the same passion and dedication and attention to detail as they displayed in this episode, and for the same reasons.
Did anyone else notice during the montage of Richie driving to Taylor Swift,( the drone shots of the top of the buildings) they show the goddess of agriculture statue with no face that Mikey mentioned earlier.. this show is on a whole other level, love it, go Richie!!

Loved this ep and Richie’s character arch. Richie getting a crash course in Carmy’s world and how he ticks, it was so eye opening for Richie and by having that exposure that literally gives Richie his purpose for this new restaurant. Carmy knew what he was doing sending Richie there. Love the writing in S2.

The world in the first season was already vibrant with life and chaos. This season gives us a magnifying glass and asks us to dig a little deeper. Love it.
I rarely do this (like three times), but as soon as it finished, i played it again. And have seen it a couple more times... it's such a healing and beautiful episode.
Richie is truly the heart of the kitchen, just had to channel that anger and passion into hospitality
Get this show an Emmy.
This episode is my Favorite of the series. Richie's journey here is the human journey.
Such a great episode and reaction with you two 😃😃 seeing Richie find his purpose.
Deep Dish is symbolic of authenticity and also a symbol of Ritchie himself. The entire meaning of that scene was showing that one should not shun their "burnt corners" of their life experience but seek a way through creativity and teamwork to reinvent themselves into something new to meet the direction that their life's growth requires and is pointing them too.
My second best episode of the season. I love the character Richie❤and enjoy seeing his growth this season.

I had my doubts in the beginning, but I love how it's turning out so far.
Y’all are so cute!!! I realize I don’t know anything about y’all but I love your energy.
just some fun FYIs on this episode: The restaurant in this episode is called "Ever", or rather it was filmed at "Ever", used extras that are the Ever staff (the asian woman in the background is the real Maitra De (which i mispelled terribly), no speaking roles because of guild actor rules of course). Most (if not, all) of the courses shown are part of the Ever tasting menu and are delicious. The restaurant in the show is fictionalized though, they dont mention the name, and Ever is not #1 ranked restaurant. They don't do research on their guests or send private cars to get waitlisted people, and I doubt they send secret messages. But the level of service and excellence portrayed IS very much part of the experience at Ever. But still an amazing episode, and does capture that feel of a kitchen at such a restaurant. edit: Also bothered me that they got Pequad's pizza. Mostly because the real "Ever" is blocks away (and running distance) from Lou Malanti's (another deep dish staple of Chicago), but pequads is literally miles away...was a small thing but I was just "if your going accurate, why change that " :)
This was the epitome of what it means to be human, finding your purpose! I love this episode so much

IMDB Great Minds. . . .
I interpreted the scene between Richie and Tiff slightly differently. I actually think nothing will change between them, she’s clearly been dating someone else and co parenting for a while now. But I think that’s what kills Richie, the fact that he’s not going to get her back, that things really won’t change between them. They’re never going to be back to the way they were during fishes (even then things were rocky). Then there’s the last shot of the train, which is a metaphor for Tiff. Tiff is the train that’s leaving Richie behind. He was metaphorically too late to catch the train and it passed him by.
Great reaction guys. I loved the picture on the wall that Ritchie walks past down the hallway with Carmy and Luca (the pastry chef in Copenhagen)? I think Carmy was the super chef that Luca tried to compete with but couldn't when he was talking to Marcus. This show has so many layers.

I don't think it was Garret who smudged the fork. He seems like the kind of person who would own up to his mistakes. I think the chef just needed to say "fuck you" to someone and Garret, being a team player, took it like a champ.
Fucking loved this episode
The place they got the pizza from was voted #1 pizza place by Yelp
1:07 failures must be humbly accepted and respected as an outcome some times out of your hands. The richest pathway to success are being humbled by failures. Just like Richie in this episode.
Thank you.
We all know a Richie, shit there was a time I was Richie myself.
I never understood how people could miss what Richie was saying to Carmen on that phone call. "Get rid of me" and "make me look like a jagoff" was referring to his old self. The only time Richie has ever used "jagoff" in the series was during banter, never when he was really mad.
