I really love this album, it's so different from anything else they had released. The other album that sounds like no other is Brian's later effort, Love You

What i love about this album is that Al Jardine takes the spot as the falsetto boss. His cadence and range is absolutely admirable and bashful. Everybody is singing like theyre performing for their school crushes, and as if they dont want to get a noise complaint filed by their neighbors as well. It really makes for a cozy listen. No other era or album has the vocal feel as Friends.

My only complaint is how short the songs are! I took the 1968 sessions (Wake the World) and turned it into over 40 minutes!

Wish I had people like this to talk about music with...thanks for this video. Pet Sounds and SMiLE being two the best albums of all time tend to eclipse other great albums by them...I've been especially into Surf's Up lately, so dark but not in an ugly or scary way (most of the time), there's just a murkiness over all the beauty

I think the most underrated Beach Boys album is “Carl & The Passions: So Tough”. I agree that it’s a bit random, but I love the vibe on that album and I don’t understand why it routinely gets ranked towards the bottom by a lot of fans and critics. It’s a top 5 BB album for me and I wish they would have continued to explore the more hard rocking/ funky side that they touched on in that era of the band. Holland gets love, but I actually rank it above that one.

Friends crept up into my top 3, it's unassuming nature makes it so alot of it doesn't stick immediately. However after repeated listens its charm reveals itself. Every track has something to offer and it has a group vibe despite being a Brian led peoject. "Be Here in the Mornin''" should have been a single.

Agree it’s highly underrated. That said I would not put any credence in Brian Wilson stating it’s his favourite Beach Boys album. He has said that about virtually every Beach Boys album at one point or another.

He’s been the most consistent about Love You.

I’m glad this wasn’t a huge seller. Knowing that but still loving it makes it a special close friend. Especially given the nature of the music and lyrics. Busy doin’ nothing sums it all up. Godspeed…

I agree completely. For me Pet Sounds is like A Day in the Life by the Beatles -- I admire it but I never feel any desire to listen to it.

Friends, Be here in the morning, TM, Anna Lee, All great Brian Wilson songs. Brian actually was attempting to have a comeback with this album and then it ended up being one of their worst selling albums of all time and then Brian really gave up after that

Overrated! Just bits of songs, some of them. Fine though. But not enough

In my opinion, its been so underrated, it has now become overrated! I don't think its all that special. When I think of underrated BB albums--"All Summer Long" and "Summer Days" are the ones I think of

When you discover this album for the first time by digging through their discography and not by someone telling you about it, it's something special. But I totally agree about All summer long and Summer days. And I'd like to add "Today!" to the underated album list as well.

@@jdd3786 I did listen to "Friends" and found it uninspired. However, I think the late 1964-65 output (Today included) was very inspired and mature, because Brian's brain really started becoming very imaginative thanks in part to the British invasion

102 minutes devoted to this snoozefest of an album. You must be quite full of yourself. But except for "Meant for You," "Wake the World" and Dennis's two songs, this album is completely disposable. There, I saved you 102 minutes of wasted time.

I may with at one point in time you. But as of lately it clicked with me. I think it has it's great moments but nowhere near their other popular albums. You have to be in the mood or it wont do anything. If you still think its trash well that's your opinion. You should def start a channel of your own in that case
