@Film Retrospective Fantastic video. I love how you deliver and explore the focus of your videos. As a life long Beach Boy fan, the behind the scenes are sad to hear. I think anyone can understand the how and whys of the Wilson brothers and Mike Love's relationships. But, the clear jealously of Mike Love towards Brian is embarrassing. Yes, Mike has a point when it comes to wanting more credit for the writing of the many legendary songs. What I and so many dislike, IS HOW, he's gone about it. Mike Love is supposed to be into peace and harmony. Yet, his actions have prove otherwise. Carl Wilson deserved so much better from both the Beach Boys and the music industry. As with Dennis, he could've and SHOULD'VE become big in his own right. But, OF COURSE, if that happened Mike Love would've found more reasons to be bitter. David

Don’t care for their involvement with the Maharishi at all. The Beatles had a negative influence on The Beach Boys by pulling them into meditations. This ruined both groups. When the Beatles left, The Beach Boys should have also. Mike has been married five times and the Maharishi years must have destroyed his marriages. Do not like that Mike tried to sue his cousin, Brian. Family should have been able to settle matters together out of court. The lives The Beach Boys were living certainly took a major toll on the music they could have written and produced. If they had continued living regular lives, there is no telling where their genius and creativity would have taken them. Just wish things had turned out differently.

@@filmretrospective5334 that’s fair but the ways he has continually attacked Brian who with out a doubt has mental issues is really disappointing disgusting (not cursing would have used different words if not for abiding by the language mandate which is reasonable). Adding a sentence to a finished song from Brian should not give you 50% of the royalties. That’s why I think Mike is an awful person.

David

Lost my paternal grandmother the same way. What they don't mention is how PAINFUL lung cancer is! Knowing that Carl toured while dealing with lung cancer and chemo makes me respect him as a consummate professional even more than I already did. I was lucky to get to see The Beach Boys in 1995, and they still sounded great.
As great as Brian Wilson is, without Mike's lyrics, those songs would never be as revered as they are today.

Greatest HOF speach ever - Jimi was spot on -
I can't dislike Mike. In his way he has as many issues as Brian.

I hope people who have bought Beach Boys concert tickets since the end of the 50 year reunion tour knew it wasn't really the Beach Boys from that point forward. Or maybe better said, if they didn't know, they weren't true Beach Boys fans to begin with. To me the Beach Boys ended with Carl's death. On the other hand, Brian Wilson and his great band, and with Alan Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, exemplify the glory of The Beach Boys.
