Pet Sounds & Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE! are both sheer & utter genius albums... I often wonder how great SMiLE! could've been w/The Beach Boys singing those harmonies, as excellent as Wondermints' harmonies are... And they absolutely are just that, excellent, too! I've heard a bootleg where the SMiLE! Sessions are used everywhere possible, & in contrast, BWPS is only used in places where there is just *ZERO* SMiLE! Sessions tape available. This takes place most prominently in areas where Parks & Wilson had just written completely new music. Sounded pretty amazing, speaking frankly.👌

I love well done Beach Boys content by someone who clearly loves this band and the brothers Wilson. This is wonderfully done. I learned some things, and I’m a pretty plugged in, hardcore BB fan! I really got a delight with the classy shade to Mike. You didn’t have to do anything except insert Mike being Mike. He is hysterical! 😂😂😂 This is fantastic. Thank you for working on this and giving it to viewers! ♥️🫶

Capitol records was one of the hardest taskmasters in the business when it came to pressuring artists to pump out 2 or 3 albums a year. They did not tolerate inactivity at all! They were like, "okay, lads--as soon as you get off this three week tour to support this album, you will go straight to the recording studio and make us another one. And as soon as you finish that, you go on another 3-week tour and make us another one when you get back".Luckliy, Brian in the early to mid 60s was such a hard working guy brimming with ideas, that was never a problem. It only became a problem after the drugs took over

The Beach Boys are the ultimate rock group. Not just in terms of sound but in personal history. These guys went through fashion disasters, drug addiction, divorce, reworking tracks, etc. As another commentator said in amother vid: The Beach Boys were the most defining band of a generation that rebelled in the 60s, got wiped on drugs in the 70s, amd became a shell of their former selves in the 80s.

Yes- the thing people miss is that Smiley Smile is not, nor is it intended to be a replacement for Smile. They share a few tracks and the word "Smile" but they are vastly different projects. Personally I think Smiley Smile is way further out there and more radical than Smile: it puts so much emphasis on minimalism and the power of the human voice. Also that droning organ. It is a fascinating album that kicks off one of my favorite eras of the group.

Great video- a lot of effort paid off, so well done✊🏻 My introduction to the Beach Boys were the twofer CD reissues with 2 albums and some bonus tracks. Had no knowledge of the Smile backstory before hearing Smiley Smile and I still love it to this day. It’s bizarre, totally out there yet brilliant. There’s a huge irony that from that album all the way into the early 70s they were totally unhip/not cool at a time when they were releasing absolutely fantastic stuff with contributions from all the band.

Superb. Wonderful video! Post Dennis Wilson's' passing, the Beach Boys stopped trying and became a glorified golden oldies band. And so did Jan and Dean and other 60s bands mid 1970s to the 90s. It's even more sad and ironic, when you compare their history, to the Rolling Stones who Mike Love attacked at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. The only difference? The Stones have faired better in terms of their later songs' quality? "That's Why God Made The Radio" is a satisfying last album. The kind of album which they should've been making through out the second half of the 70s to the 90s if they'd all sorted out their inter relationships and personal selves out. And even Dennis has had his 2 albums released, Getting the respect, as a song and producer of music, he should've. The Beach Boys story is full of highs and great sadness. But, I think it's fair to say Carl, Dennis and their Mother would be happy knowing that it ended on a happy note. Even if it was one born out of commercial reasons. I'm glad I added some of their music to my day. David

LA may not be a GREAT album, but it's a pretty good one. "Good Timin'" is the last great Beach Boys harmony mix with all members alive (though i dont think dennis is on there, im not sure) - Dennis's songs are strong. . Shortnin Bread is Rockin', hilariously bonkers, Sumahama is pure Disney, and I dont even mind the disco

This was an extraordinary project - Herculean, Sisyphian in effort. I enjoyed the section on MIU ... Brian said he cld not remember making the album ... had gone through a ‘mental blackout’ at the time ... despite this, he was credited as the album’s exec producer ... Carl & Dennis took the whole experience as a personal affront .. Brian was miserable throughout - less said about the songs the better ... met by confusion from critics and fans alike. ... so dreadful it was simply ignored by the critics

Very Good- your BBs credentials are in order. Maybe you can do a presentation on the Non LP songs, bootlegs maybe. A flexible disc included with a Barbie Doll 1988 reads " Beach Boys"- although it's Brian It's a shame some BBs LPS had minimum contributions. At the beginning and for 5 years BW was Literally Riding the crest of a wave!!! I listened to the BBs when it was uncool to some people. They influenced alot of people. Thanx!!!!!❤Technically " Smile" should have been discussed- even though it was released 40 years later .I always thought The righteous Brothers song was " For Just Once in My Life"( cowritten by Phil Spector). Stevie Wonder song is a totally different song. Just pointing out....Around 1:1:13 - there is an Ad for Car stereo. I saw one for EL&P and thought it was Unique! Apparently other bands were used for this advertising- thanx again .

It has taken me awhile to warm to "Carl And The Passions-So Tough" but there are enough strong cuts on the album to make it a worthwhile purchase. It is no "Sunflower" or "Surf's Up" but few LP's can achieve those heights. The record company had so little faith in "So Tough" in 1972 that they included a rerelease of "Pet Sounds" with the record to try and goose sales. It may be the weakest of the 1967-73 albums, but that was such a fruitful period for the band (in my opinion) that it does hold up inside that period.

This is interesting. I dont believe Brian Wilsons strange behavior was caused by LSD. First of all Brian Wilson has said that his use of LSD was no more than 3 times. Ive no reason to disbelieve him. Lets say 3-5 times. From ("What Ive heard) that is mínimal use. From what Ive heard he enjoyed grass and beer as a form of relaxation. During the 60s and 70s that would be normal, especially for musicians who often have time to kill between Show time and traveling. The only drug Ive heard of the man using was prescribed by a doctor. That medicine was amphetamine(a stimulant) and Secanol which is used to get to sleep. It is an antidote to the amphetamine and reported as being addictive for some but not all who use it..Mr.Wilson from what Ive heard, said he had used it as a anti-depressant and stress/anxiety/medication. Amphetamines are well know for their depressant side affects/after affects when used in above normal does. This I suspect was more likely to have been Brian Wilson,s problem. Also, as he has said himself, he spent alot of money on Cocaine and that became a problem also. These were the crutches he used to combat his low moods in the 60s and 70s.Brian Wilson had his problems growing up and it was not until he and his brothers achieved fame that those probems began to reappear.. It is now established that Brian Wilson is probably a musical genius if not one of the most talented songwtiters/musicians of the 20th and 21st century. When I listen to him and his band The Beach Boys I can only say, in my opinion, Brian Wilson is a living musical genius and I have been delighted to live in his musical era.. PS.. Contrary to this critic,s views, for me the LA album was an excellent breath of fresh air. An great album. All I can add his.. "If music critics knew what they were talking about, they would be making music themselves but theyre unable to".. Music critics get kicks from being bitter about things they would love to do but are unable...

I think Brian would have developed mental health issues regardless of whether or not he used heavy drugs. It seems Brian got the worst of Murray’s abuse, but even so, all three Wilson brothers had drug and alcohol problems. I think Murray was mentally unstable himself and jealous of Brian so that’s why Brian got most of the abuse.
