Good horse this was and the first of 3 red national winners for Brian Fletcher

My Maternal gramps was a helluva gambler liked his ggs every year when we were kids he would put a half crown on the horse of our choice in the national and i picked Red Aligator and i bet it to win not each way so i had sweets come out my ears all week long gramps had £25 on it to win i didnt know we backed the same horse the fish suppers and beers for the grown ups Lemonade for the kids with their suppers 🍽 happy days gramps passed away 6 years later and had the winner the day he died in The Scottish national gave the casy to the kids 😢 passed away 4hrs later 😢 💔 never forgotten gramps ❤🕊🐴🐎🐴🐎

My mum watched Red Alligator win for her in the maternity hospital 3 days after I was born

..wonder what all the ex-Jockeys who rode the course back then think of todays English National...

Brian Fletcher the greatest National jockey of them all. Don’t forget he would have won 3 Nationals on Red Rum if he hadn’t got disgracefully jocked off , 4 in all and don’t forget the fences were much more difficult in those days.

Thats a big shout about Fletcher. McCain thought the partnership had run its course and overall you would have to say he was proved just about correct. The irony was had Stack kicked for home earlier in the 76 race he probably would have won

Tiger Bay is going for his third win in a row this year ,but the race cannot be compared to when Rummy won 3. Great spectacle ruined sadly. Just a normal race now.😥

I used to work as a stable lad in highland wedding's stable .

How many people have listened to the Commentator say that a horse has fallen when actually the jockey just fell off!! The horses' Body never touched the ground.!!

the only Jockey to ride 3 The Grand National with 2 different horses

@@gazowen7310 Hello sir, May I say you are not entirely correct. Brian was second on Red Rum in 1975 beaten by his old rival Lescargot. In 1976 Brian was third on Eyecatcher beaten by Rag Trade and Red Rum ' Tommy Stack on board. In 1975 Brian rode Eyecatcher in Topham Trophy but he fell when going well at the second last. Our Greenwood won with Tommy Carberry on board. Sadly Brian at to retire early 1977 due to head injuries and is no longer with us RIP. Foinavon was going well until brought down at the water of all jumps. Never seen anything fall there before. Smaller and safer fences are making this race as dangerous as ever. The jockeys just go faster and run more risks. It should never have been changed.

actually the water jump has caused problems in the past quite a few fallers in the 20s and 30s

Watching old nationals does anyone know what those 3 or 4 big black things were by first 2 or 3 fences were houses are now ?

My dad had 2 shillings on red alligator, wow I was only 5 years old,he did have it year come 3rd 100 to one,said son watch learn, ge had in 1968 come first wow

An easy winner from mister red rum

...Gold Cup winner to be What A Myth had an unlucky record in the race....brought down Bechers '66 and '68.....and taken out at the 23rd in '67.....

It's David Mould. Married Marian Coakes, showjumer and owner of Stroller. The little 14.2 pony won individual silver medal in 1968 Mexico Olympics and was present at t.heir their wedding

the 2 horses runnin along the rail are the 2 early fallers ford ord and 39 beecham

Wasn't this race amazing, let the Irish have it now and restore it, easily done...

It's amazing how one of the cruellest events in the animal kingdom, apelike mammals whipping equines for sport, is somehow associated with royalty.

Underated horse, should have won the previous years too.....ended up in the slaughter house I believe. I s that realy befitting a great horse like this?

My first ever bet. One shilling on Red Alligator. I bet Highland Wedding the following year too; as a 6 year old. The National was the highlight of the year for me as a boy.
