Gen. Buckner was not just governor of Kentucky, he also ran for Vice President in the 1890s. His son, Simon Jr., was a three star general during WWII and was killed by the Japanese on Okinawa.

I will be taking my kids to that beautiful place this summer. Coming from AZ. Can’t wait!

I live here in Richmond not even a mile from the Park. Sure missed the reenactment this year.

My Great Great Grandparents was in Henderson Kentucky at the time

I was there a couple of weekends ago man what a battle that was

I've visited the Richmond Battlefield 3 times and enjoyed each one. No visit was the same because they were always adding something new.

The work you folks do is so amazing.

Thanks so much for presenting this wonderful battlefield. Phil Seyfrit does a great job with this park & the preservation effort here. Richmond is one of my favorite battlefields to visit. Check out their laser presentation relief map narrated by former Governor Patton. Also look at the sunset granite marker placed on this battlefield by the Texas Historical Commission. Also I believe Union General Bull Nelson was in command at the Battle of Ivy Mountain fought in the Big Sandy Valley in November 1861.

A wind screen would be helpful but as a Kentuckian thank you for shining some light on some important engagements in a formative year of the conflict and the utility of the state to both sides.

Not entirely true, but it was Doctors Creek that they needed water from. Some of the first shots were fired near one of the pools of water in the creek

I've heard tell of a civil war battle in Bardstown, Nelson County, Ky that apparently was even more bloody than Gettysburg. Hope you can set me straight on this one.

Looks like the 2nd Tennessee was hit pretty hard during the battle. Trying to find a good book for an explanation.

Richmond has always been an interesting battle to me. Kirby Smith was relatively inexperienced, he commanded a brigade at Manassas but was wounded and forced to relinquish command relatively early after entering the battle. Yet, Richmond was a complete victory for Kirby Smith, and was arguably the most complete Confederate victory of theater.

Imagine all the factors that had to take place for that to happen. The drought at the time, the inexperience of the union, the early war confidence not yet broken. I'm a Richmondite not very versed on Kentucky civil war era history. But I have to imagine the Pennyroyal and Bluegrass regions of Kentucky were more in line with the rebels than the Union. I could see the rebels fortunate enough to stay supplied as they worked through these regions, onto eventually take Frankfort.

That guy looks like David Crosby. Has anyone ever seen them together in the same place? Hmmm………..

If only Raylan Givens was around during the civil war, lol.

I attend the battlefield church, and I have traveled to Big Hill where the initial contact was made. I know where the second and third stages of the battle took place. Even with this information, this presentation was difficult to follow. Very little information about where he was standing, where the roads (how about using highway numbers) were in relation to him, and where the first stage of the battle occurred in relation to him. On KZread, type in Kent Masterson Brown, a Kentucky Historian who can give a better explanation of the battle. General Nelson should have stayed north of the Kentucky River which would have made General Kirby's foray much harder. Location, location, location.

Please buy wireless mics with windscreens. Use them every time you shoot. A reflector would be a nice item to add fill light to get rid of the poor exposure on the faces. Great content. 👍👍👍

Thanks for the suggestion Don. Our live, tour type videos are done in the moment on an iPhone feed, then directly uploaded. We have a bevy of production equipment for our produced videos. Once too much equipment gets involved you need permits from the park.

@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust you are not allowed to use a handheld camera? There are some very superior cameras that are compact and shoot in 4k allowing more options when you edit it. Also you can plug in at least 2 wireless mics without a mixer. 👍👍

@@Don-ut9uo Yes we have a 4k camera. Our battlefield tour videos are not edited. They are uploaded live, thus the phone usage.

Battle of Richmond Ky federals had alot of green troops there same as troops that where at Mumfordville Ky this battle will lead up to the biggest battle at perryville Ky

Humiliating defeat of the union soldiers. That's okay, they probably hadn't been in combat. It will be a minute, but Sam Grant latched onto Bobby Lee like a pitbull and didn't let go. Tecumseh Sherman pounded Georgia and South Carolina.

I read an account from my Indiana cavalryman ancestor, whose unit was at Richmond. They had gotten their rifles and been taught the manual of arms the day before, an absolute cluster.
