Always been fascinated by the us civil war since a kid. A war fought over such a vast continent. Impossible to attend any of these battlefields/etc due to my uk location but love this kind of "then and now" stuff. Just love the story telling and your enthusiasm of american history even though its not my own. Thanks.

I worked in Jessamine County and enjoyed attending the Veterans Day ceremony at Camp Nelson. I have always been curious about the history of the facility, so this is great.

I was in the Shiloh visitor center 2 weeks ago and it was business as usual except with masks. I never knew about refugee centers in the Civil War. I learned something today.

Do you have specific information about the 123rd USCT other than it was stationed at Camp Nelson while it was open. If you know, while the USCT units were at Camp Nelson, were the white officers billeted or messed with the troops under their command? Or did the white officers billet or mess separately?

You did not mention that Camp Nelson was named after Brigadier General William "Bull" Nelson of Kentucky. He was my great great grand uncle.
