The Battle of Doiran - Turmoil In The French Army I THE GREAT WAR Week 144

Meet Indy & the Crew at Stow Maries WW1 Aerodrome: bit.ly/TGWStowMaries
The Salonica Front had been quiet over the winter, but much like the recent battles on the Western Front, it erupted this week. The British Army tried to take the Bulgarian positions at Doiran - these positions might have been some of the best defences of the entire war. After the failed Nivelle Offensive, some French soldiers start to question the whole war.

Fun Fact: After they took French prisoners during this time, the Bulgarians found French colonial troops panicking and screaming. Apparantly the French commanders told their African soldiers Bulgarians eat their prisoners and the men were terrified. And no they were merely taken prisoner, not eaten. Bet you wont get that as BF1 DLC

Hahahah that's one good story. By the way most Bulgarians at the time(just as today) had never seen a black person in real life. So when they first met Senegalise troops the men asked their officers are these humans and should they shoot them. As the war progressed Bulgarians developed a healthy respect for the colonials though, probably the toughest enemy we ever faced were those French African regiments.

5,000 British from a single brigade killed or wounded by their own artillery is one of the most horrifying accounts from this horrifying war. I'm surprised I've never heard of that before. That's like 20 charges of the Light Brigade, and self inflicted!

I love this show but it is interesting to note how tiring it is to keep track of all that is going on week by bloody week and just feeling exhausted by all the pointlessness of the fighting. I say interesting to note because my exhaustion of the war is nothing compared to the exhaustion of those who actually lived through it. It's just hard to imagine.

Indy's final monologue (8:48 to 9:48) is a glorious full minute of pure outrage at the absolute stupidity that this war was.

I'm sure that these so-called 'disturbances' in the French and Russian armies will turn out just fine. Haig's offensive in Flanders will be the final hammer blow to those German rotters, mark my words!

Enjoyed the ending a lot. Even though there are many youtubers that cover the WW 2 is there a chance that the crew will cover it? Or if not the WW 2 you can cover some of the wars/conflicts during and after the Cold War. That would be very interesting.

That is of course very true, but maybe the feeling I have is because most of the analytic historic sources you use are based on english litterature and not so much german one because there was probably less of it/less archives survived WW2 (wild guess, though)...so at the end of the day the perspective is often "Entente"-centered, or seems so (but of course not always).
