Based on Elmore Leonard’s novella “Fire in the Hole,” Justified was developed by Graham Yost and stars Timothy Olyphant as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens, a lawman who finds himself drawn back to his home state of Kentucky. In Justified’s final season, the long brimming conflict between Raylan and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) will finally come to a head. The series co-stars Walton Goggins as ‘Boyd Crowder;’ Nick Searcy as ‘Chief Deputy Art Mullen;’ Jacob Pitts as ‘Deputy Marshal Tim Gutterson;’ Erica Tazel as ‘Deputy Marshal Rachel Brooks;’ Joelle Carter as ‘Ava Crowder;’ and Jere Burns as ‘Wynn Duffy.’ Yost wrote the pilot and serves as Executive Producer/Writer on the series. Executive Producers on the series include Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Michael Dinner, Fred Golan, Dave Andron, Don Kurt, Taylor Elmore, Timothy Olyphant, and the late Elmore Leonard. Justified is produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions.

Because he refused to take any role that required him to kiss anyone other than his wife? That’s not going off the deep end. That’s called not ignoring your principles for money. That’s called character. And you don’t have to share his principles or agree with them, but any decent percent will respect the fact that he sticks to his.

Historically speaking, most shotguns are not considered drop safe. I added the “historically speaking” bit because idk if that’s the case today with a newly purchased gun. I’m sure more of them are drop safe than they were even when Justified was recorded. Anyway, because of that, it’s not uncommon for people to store defensive shotguns with a full mag tube, an empty chamber, dry fired, and the safety off. In that condition it’s drop safe and one pump away from being ready to fire. It’s called “cruiser ready”.

Aside from Raylan in the limo one season later with Nicky Augustine, this is probably my favorite scene in the entire series. It's Quarles zooted out of his mind, furious about losing the election and effectively being outplayed by Boyd who he thought would just be a pushover and now confronting Raylan. This scene in a lot of ways really showed how Quarles just kept compounding mistake after mistake for the entirety of his time in Harlan. He got royally GOT by Boyd and Raylan ended up being well, Raylan. Couldn't be had and he wasn't intimidated by him. Duffy was just done at this point or really just done with the antics of Quarles. He wanted him gone, but couldn't force him out. Tried to blow him up but that didn't go as planned. The further down the hole Quarles went, the worse he got and oddly enough, the more entertaining he became all told. But yeah, Quarles hurls the threat at Raylan not thinking Raylan would call his bluff. His father was a criminal and Raylan had an understated temper in his own right. Mean streak wasn't as pronounced as Arlo's on a lot of fronts but the further along we went, you could see it coming to the forefront and in some levels, I think he was actually scarier than his dad cause he knew how to harness it. The very end of all this with Quarles getting Raylan and the big showdown in the Holler, ending with Limehouse taking his arm and Quarles basically bleeding out telling him that Arlo shot Bergen thinking it was Raylan cause of the hat.

*(spoiler alert)* What tears me about this whole conversation is that Quarles seemed to think he was actually *insulting* Raylan by calling his Daddy a criminal. When Raylan has literally known what kind of person his Daddy is , his whole life. That's why his Aunt Helen raised him. And after Tom Bergen was killed in the brouhaha between Arlo, Quarles and Duffy, Quarles was *going* to die, no two ways about it. I was just surprised it was Limehouse who did it.

I think he did managed to insult Raylan; at least a little bit. Arlo is the source of Raylan’s anger. Raylan has tried to distance himself from his father’s legacy of abuse & criminality…but even though he is a marshal; he constantly pursues a methodology that pushes the limits of the law, because he hates criminals. They remind him of his vile father. Poking Raylan by reminding him that he COMES from a criminal family, directly undermines him; which is why Raylan immediately tries to toss Quarrels out when he says it.

The thing about Quarles is that he was in over his head trying to be a boss. Raylan, Boyd and his old don correctly figured that his schemes were going to blow up in his face. But he was well in his element as a psycho fugitive. He only got more dangerous once he was on the run.
