Because I often run a build that's not just great for tournaments, I found in the early days of this game that that was PRECISELY my best option. Rusty chainmail chausses ftw. If I'm "being real," it might also bear mentioning that I kinda suck at parrying and chamber blocks so. But I can run in a circle and bash with a two hander with the best, and my horse archer skillz aren't too bad compared to most people I see.

Heavy Scale Armor over Mail Hauberk outperforms the Mastercrafted Southern armor. It has 5 less leg armor, but has 6 more body armor. It also weighs 18.2 as opposed to the Southern armor's 23.8. Edit: Also, it's significantly cheaper. 133529 vs 210686.

Just wanted to say thank you for being not just a great content creator/tester but an empathetic human being who went out of his way to start a positive chain reaction. I'm new to all of this and am allergic to technology (it embarrassingly took me forever to find out where to go to begin typing this dang comment) - but when I went to the gofundme page to contribute, I was stunned to see it already completed. Tying in the community like that just goes to show how much of an impact creators like you and Flesson have on other peoples' lives even if it's just to share our love/hobby for games. I wish you all the best and I hope you pull through these rough times, that this positivity vastly outweighs the negative. Support, no matter the form, will always go a long long way. Thoroughly tried and tested xD. I wish everybody happy holidays and a happy new year, may 2023 hitch off to a lovely start to forget a bummer end... And cheers to more fantastic content/games! I appreciate you leaving the feedback on this! I know a lot of people feel the same way as you, but it's always nice to hear it out loud (or read it, you know what I mean lol). The Bannerlord community really pulled this one off and the timing was perfect, he got the funds well before the holidays and I imagine was a huge stress-relief for him. Thank you for the kind words! Yeah the end of this year has been a disaster for me lol I have posted 2 videos since November 1st and my channel tanked a bit, but I'm glad it had enough steam to help Flesson out. 2023 is going to be huge I think, I've got some really big changes in store :)
I am a sucker for the t6 sturgian and khuzait helmet. They look sick af. The best body armor is actually the Empire's Heavy Scale Armor Over Mail Hauberk (57/20/16) and Empire's Lamellar wih Scale Skirt as a very close second (52/23/16) but arguably more sick. The best horse I feel is the Asaligat (63/82/245). Wadar Hotblood (68/78/230)is amazing but only beats the Asaligat in speed.
Props for extensively covering Flesson19 and his contribution to Bannerlord community. Not a lot of people are willing to credit others.
As disappointing as the 2 second difference in the armor weight race, it could be that mobility armor sets affect acceleration and maneuverability in combat much more than maximum speed, which is arguably more important in a fight.

It's not dimishing returns AT all in term of survivability : if you lose 5 less hp out of a 20 hp hit, that means you took 33% less damage. Adding the fact you have at most 200 hp it means you die in 14 hits rather than 10 (again around 33% more). But a lot of shots are grazing you going form 3 to 1 hp or better 6 to 1 : in thoses cases the increase is huge. Of course if you take couching damages your a gonner anyway because thoses lances are deadly (rightfully so).

Unrelated but the way you introduced flesson as the big bro in another video for some reason thought he was a bigger youtuber or something, randomly checked yalls subs and saw the difference, youre a good guy strat 🥂 showin love to smaller channels
In my experience, big armor values are more worth it than the tests here would make it seem, since the player would most often be fighting troops that are tier 2-4, outfitted with weaker ranged weapons and mainly cut-damage melee weapons, like swords and axes. The diminishing returns would only show themselves when fighting rarer tier 5, 6 troops or enemy nobles. I definitely tend to choose form over function with armor and love all the mail hauberks, especially the Sturgian ones with the golden/bronze rings and lamellar covering the torso. It's just the right amount of real-looking protection and lavish style that would befit a warlord. All the Vlandian helmets work perfect for this end, with their mail and face masks.

Happy to donate! Helpful rule of thumb for French words like cervelliere (from French cervelière), generally they last letter of the word is not pronounced! Exceptions exist of course but it's generally a trustworthy rule. In this case the word is pronounced like: sir - vel - ee(like bee) - yair
@kevg1617
Жыл бұрын
If the last letter is a vowel other than e, it will be pronounced. If it is an r or a t, preceded by an e, it will not be pronounced as the sound created by the e t or e r combination is essentially the same as the e with an accent on it. If the last letter is n, preceded by an o or a u, it will also not be pronounced, as again, it is a sound created from the combination of letter. There are other rules involved in french, such as the t preceded by an o as the last two letters, where the t is silent, despite not creating a "combination" sound.

with no aditional modifiers, the best armor (heavy one) is warlord helmet 54 and brigandine over hauberk from sturgia 94, battania scaled boots and gloves at 26 each and for shoulders either vlandian or aserai ones at 32 total. With a high enough roguery skill you can grind for the lordly ones but it`s not that much better than the standard ones. With these stats no one enemy can kill you, you`ll even survive couch lance attacks
arrows use piercing, which means the armor is only half as effective. the slashing weapons is where the armor really shines. blunt now doesn't fully ignore armor, but armor is negligible. this is why most weapons with slashing, piercing, and blunt has the damage values that they do. basically low damage blunt weapons are really good against armored opponents, slashing weapons are for low armor opponents, and piercing splits the difference.

Interesting guide. Thank you! I just wanted to add that early and late game sets should be compared by damage absorption for different type of damage. Since the pierce damage ignores some of the armor and blunt damage ignores a lot of the armor, the cut damage is absorbed heavily by armor. Take it into account.
Love the bloopers at the end!
I’d be curious to see the difference in damage from the first set of bow attacks on the late game armour. Running headlong into Fian Champions is always a bad idea, but it would be interesting to see how much damage you can absorb from low tier troops
I watched it twice, first as a fan of Flesson19 and Strat Gaming videos. 12/10 :) Second time paying attention to details, like why does the best armor not give us more protection against missiles. I got some good armor and cant even lower my shield, to shout out orders to my troops, without risking that I take a shot for 40+ damage through my superhero helmet. I am now on the lookout for a Lordly helmet that would give me +8 armor. With such a super rare helmet I might only take 39 damage :) For people wondering, Lordly gives +8 to each stat on an armor piece.
I have loved Vikings all my life and have studied them for a long time so when I picked this game up you know I immediately fell in love with the Sturgians. They are more of a older middle aged Russian faction with all the armor showing that but I enjoy it so much

Yes, it squeaks by with 36B / 7A / 6L
Amazing test, as always. One thing though: i find aserai leather strips over padded robe to be quite a bit better civilian armor than the imperial one.
The potential armor value if these have the lordly modifier is insane, but you couldn't really acquire the best in slot armors with the lordly tag, cycling towns is a crapshoot at best, even items that are usually in high supply (say 20-40 at most towns that sell them) it can take forever to intentionally find even 1 upgraded variant, let alone a lordly one. The most reliable way to get Lordly items is through the roguery skill, because in after battle loot, item modifiers are seen much more consistently, but that brings me back to the first point, many of the top tier armors are not worn by any units, like the "reinforced ornate pauldrons over scale" I dont believe are worn by anything, so they could never drop as battle loot, but some second best in slots do drop, and the lordly versions 2nd best items would still be far stronger than the best items default stats.
@nickhenley1338

I found it very hard to find the lordly gear I wanted, led me to believe certain pieces can't even roll as lordly and nothing I could search online gave me any info on it at all... getting the best gear takes a bit of luck, getting the pieces to roll lordly is effectively impossible without min maxing your chances and grinding for hours. If it's even possible.
well strat, this is nice - but Id like to see a best armour by appearance choices too. Embrace the Fashion lord! As you say the difference between super high and mid tier values is minimal in terms of protection, so - may as well concentrate on being dapper as hell. thank you for this interesting and time intensiv video with the other bannerlord youtube god flessorn19. once i wandered around calradia i watched out for the best looking armor and i realized some parts are very rare. at least i now know that it depends on the armor and weapon smith but what happens if you have in every city a weapon and armor smith? you know, buying 2 workshops, changig the production and selling them again and so on. my suggestion: the price for iron will get a massive boost and not every shop will be producing. Cavalry with full coverage helms (which were most often worn visor up until the very end of a charge) is indeed a bit later, though so were the components that allowed a lance to be couched to best effect (the Grapper/Arrêt de Lance, and the much later Lance Rest on a cuirass). Honorable mention to the "thick brigandine vest" for non-civilian use. It's pretty good chest armor for its cost/tier/weight, though it totally lacks arm armor.

Okay gotcha, yeah I figured that was the case. So they didn't have much need for it without the ability to couch? Seems like armor at the time was meant to deflect the lance away, but you don't see those elements in the armor present in Bannerlord. I guess it makes sense now :)

The problem i have with the leather harnesses of the empire is that they are sooo heavy compared to the armor they give and their look (like the one you showed in lategame, 14 weight!). The vlandian one weight less than 1/4 of the harness for a similar armor + looks better. Anyway nice video again !
I did miss an armor/weigh best ratio set, to be as light as possible but still with acceptable armor so we can run faster. For example, suede boots, leather vambraces and the padded coif are good for that. Some waxed or fine versions of starting armors are even good enough too.
I would like to see you test how important each type of armor is in a real battle, like for example if leg armor matters if your doing foot combat.

Don't want to advertise another Bannerlord channel (hopefully SG don't mind) but LyonExodus is doing really good job and deep analysis on armor. I'd like to see more testing with different weapons. Just to see if different damage values/types have different impact on higher armor. I think pierce already does better against armor than cut? Ngl sturgian and vladian armors together or mixed is pretty awesome
so in nutshell armor is more of a dressing game than a meta topic - i like it.
I think you didn't do enough justice to minmaxing armor by saying about diminishing returns: players may assume there was an implication that getting hit by pierce damage with above average base damage (e.g. your bow testing) is way more common than it actually is in-game. Playing with very high hitpoints (220 and up) on main character and total armor modifier on foot, which, I assume, a lot of people will do in their playthrough granted Endurance's power and popularity, going 5 points up in armor still increases hits to kill even against hight base damage troops, such as shock infantry. And it doesn't end there, because, as we go down the tiers of troops you're likely to meet on the battlefield, higher armor values keep pushing damage taken into negligible amounts: range of damage taken from common low damage output troops (such as militia) can vary from as high as 8 to as low as 3 just within tier 6 armor sets, which nearly triples our survivability. And, as mainly Sturgia player, I can attest that, if I get hit and combat and look at the incoming damage value, there's an above 80% chance I'll see a "-3" in easy to come by minmax armor with no prefix modifiers.

Yeah I know what you mean, my biggest issue was time constraint because it was already pushing 30 minutes long. In the next armor video I'll be focusing exclusively on real world implications of armor like you describe - early game armor vs early, mid and late weapons and late armor vs early mid and late weapons etc.

I did some testing right now (accounting for different attack and different body parts and probabiulty of being hit to different parts). So, for piercing damage average of 36-38 armor halves damage. Average of 69 armor (best gear)decreases it further 1.67 percents. Averaged low tier hit of 58.5 (to naked armor) is reduced by superb armor to average of 12.5 (accouning for different body parts). High tier bow hit of average 125 (to naked armor) is reduced to 28 (accounting for different body parts). From gameplay perspective, armor requires no buffs, I think.
If im remembering right actual cataphrat helms only used chainmail like covers for the face so the neck cover would be about right. I believe full face coverings for calv came later on in european cultures. Though I could be wrong.
Great guide esp since I was planning to do a playthrough where my character and companions are only allowed to equip armors of their own culture. For some reason (Taleworlds math maybe), the Mastercrafted Southern Scale over Chain Hauberk is really overpriced compared to the best armor in other cultures. My personal favorite is the Light Lamellar Armor worn by Aserai Veteran Infantry. It's not the best armor but you get a whooping 48 body armor for just ~38k denars at the cost of 0 leg armor.

The mastercrafted southern scale has a significantly higher armor value than the best armor of some of the other cultures. It makes sense that a piece of armor granting 50+ body armor is going to be more expensive than a piece that is only granting 40. Also, if you just look at the price of raw materials, iron and other smithing materials tend to be more expensive and more rare in Aeseri territory than say Sturgia. It makes sense then that skilled blacksmiths are harder to find and get more of a premium for their goods.

Finally! :)
Can’t wait for the review for the silvered yeti armor
Man I love this game. I can’t wait for a 3rd
Actually, the light Vlandian getup looks pretty cool, you can definitely see the fantasy aspect.
The Heavy Scale Armor over Mail Hauberk has a higher total armor than the Mastercrafted Southern Scale over Chain Hauberk, has higher body armor, and weighs less. Also, the leopard skin outclasses the heavy cloak by a landslide for civilian gear.
I convinced myself a few less armor points is well worth the trade off to be lighter
im curious if there is any legal way to get the battle-crown helmets

They are fairly rare drop from taking on noble parties. Kick Duthert enough times at about day 400 and you will get one eventually.

@@jaymorrison2419 so that means if i want to have for example the ornate desert battle crown i need to focus on figthing aserai nobles, specific unquid or in case of the khuzait battlecrown monchug
Maybe there is a better body armor the Heavy Scale Armor over Mail Hauberk has 57/20/16 as armor values. If you just go for the sum of all values that should be better that aserai armor. But the question is if the additional body armor is needed or if the greater leg armor is overall better.
Cool video, lots of work, thank you. I dunno about these parameters though. Wouldn't it change from game to game based on what loot caravans move around? (Not sure about Lords) I'm pretty sure that i've found a complete cataphract set in the Empire lands by lategame.

Cataphracts are Empire troops, so why wouldn't those armors be available in Empire lands?

Thanks for watching! So the armor sets are made at towns when they have enough materials to do so. If they have a smithy it's even more likely to be made, but even a town without one can do it, but they still need to materials (iron, leather, hardwood). So in this case, when we bought everything from the towns, they didn't have it in stock which means it was either consumed by the town (prosperity consumes goods including gear) or it wasn't made due to lack of resources.

@@Strat-Guides Ah, i see. Thanks for clarifying!
You missed my favorite armor piece, luxury brigandine.
Not trying to make Strat into stat gaming but I wonder if lighter versus heavy armor on man and Beast has any significant better kdr in terrains and troop drives
Now do that for RBM. It will be soooo much more meaningful, because armor does a lot in RBM as you know
One issue - u used piercing damage to test DMG absorbtion (the one which od designated to not depend on armor). Using cut DMG would show much more difference.
