BEST FUCKING BAND EVER! R.I.P. Rick Danko, Levon Helm and Richard Manuel!

This is the first song my brother and I heard at Watkins Glen. We came running over the hill, heard it, and looked at each other in wild, joyful, disbelief. Wow the Band!. It was an awesome moment.

It is a shame WS Walcott Medicine Show and Life is a Carnival (among other things) were not featured in the Last Waltz. Even as raw as this audio is, they were on fire for those two numbers

It hurts when after Garth's solo "The Genetic Method" the seg to "Chest Fever" is cut. I looked into that and turns out the cameras were overheating and they had to stop filming at certain intervals. That's also the reason Scorsese got the Staples for the studio rendition of "The Weight", another song that was otherwise missing from the show.

@@RobHollanderMusicRobbie also broke a string during Chest Fever I think so the video would have been weird anyway. There’s footage from this camera of it

Nice work. The poor audio on the vault version was always a distraction. This makes it much more enjoyable. Thank you.

somebody got it right scheduling these guys with the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers at Watkins Glen the 3 bands have so much more in common @ music+spirit than shows at first glance first and foremost how thoroughly integrated the players' musical interactions are

Yes, WolfGangs Vault has the original video, all the concert, but with a poor audio. I changed it for ''The Last Waltz'' of Warner.

Consider this, Mr. Shears (love the name) - the concert lasted for about four hours, maybe a little more. 4-hour movies, even if they were to be of an incredible show like this, weren't done then and aren't done now (at least in mainstream cinema). Scorsese and Robbie edited the film, and they wanted to get all the guests in, which they did minus Bobby Charles. Short of that, Rick, Levon, and Richard all get at least one singing feature. They crammed a lot in.

The copy on Wolfgang was filmed by Bill Graham (naturally, since he recorded his promoted shows in one form or another). The full show is classic, especially with the after concert jams included.

Could they have done more? Probably. I'd have chosen different songs from the Band's set, and it would be cool to have the entire thing in beautiful 35mm format. But since we don't, I'll take what I can get. They did screw Richard over. Eight zillion shots of Robbie, a good bit of Rick, good bit of Levon, some Garth, zero Richard except for "The Shape I'm In". Should've had more. Levon and Ronnie Hawkins agree.

A perfect performance!! Unlike Trump's Perfect phone call. Danko's backing vocals are killer!! "A man is a fool that does not heed the call!"
