I think part of it was her need to show that she was popular. Prom queen will make sure that you'll be remembered. Not just as a popular girl but the popular girl. It's a lot of pressure that was put on her that finally made her snap.

I'm amazed this song went the route of it being Sara's father who drove her to insanity. You'd think, because the song is about a girl obsessed with being prom queen, that it is her mother abusing her, maybe because she didn't win prom queen when she was a teenager and she is pushing her daughter to be the perfect prom queen to live vicariously, or she was prom queen and refuses to see her daughter not follow in her footsteps. But no, her DAD is the one who makes Sara believe that if she isn't prom queen then she's worthless. It makes me think Sara's dad was a high school star quarterback who married the prom queen and still carried those fucked up high school hierarchy beliefs into adulthood, then verbally beat them into his daughter's head. It's an interesting approach to take.

Nope. Poisoning, head trama twice, drowned, and stabbed/cut up twice. Pretty common. With Mariana and Eunice (sorry if they are misspelled) it is a bit unclear, but they were certainly cut up, so they were mostly likely just stabbed. But this all makes sense for her character. She's not a sadistic killer who likes to get creative, just trying to kill the competition. She killed in a way that was simplest in that situation.

Brenda Cervantes eh not really it was more like her dad pressured her saying if she failed being prom queen she was also a failure at life. This started the spiral. Shebpushed away her friends and everything to focus on being prom queen which didnt work. This made her lose popularity hence why her friends said she was socially dead. All the while her dad is still telling her that she is a failure if ahe doesnt get prom queen. This pushes her over the edge as nothing she does works, she has lost her friends and boyfriend etc. Now she thinks the only way left to win is to kill the conpetition. Popularity didnt cause the mental break, her fathers pressure and the failure of her tactics before it came to murder did. Nothing supernatural or creepy pasta like.

I won't lie, I've been avoiding watching this animatic for the past 2 years. It continuously showed up in my recommended and frankly just didn't seem like something I would like based off the thumbnail. Today I decided I would just finally watch it and get it off my recommended... And damn am I surprised! I love this! Here’s an idea me and my friend came up with the other day: Julie Jenkins is the main singer and the backing singers are the people Sara killed. Julie doesn’t know they are there (obviously because they are dead) Julie wrote the song about Sara and the events of prom soon after and often sings it to herself, she hasn’t sung it or shown it to anyone else but the dead people have been there the whole time listening to it, they now back her up every time she sings it. They say the lines about how they died (like Patricia says the line “p is for Patricia drinking poison punch”) Idk how we came up with this. We just did. Also, I do theatre and two of my friends from the theatre club are called Sara Berry and Julie Jenkins (Julie has a double barrelled surname but the last part is Jenkins) there’s also someone called Marianna and Anne. Um....yeah.

It's fascinating that Sara didn't kill Julie. How could she beat Julie if Julie is already dead? Sara killing 6 people, eliminating other participants and commitee (I don't know who those 6 people were), so she can have a true vote between her and Julie. No. It's not rational, but so is Sara.

I think she was planning to kill Julie last: she's the easiest target especially since Julie would have less capacity to defend herself or run, on account of her amputated leg. I guess the other girls were other prom queen candidates, or the prom committee who allowed Julie to be pity vote. Julie just got ahead of Sara by calling the authorities.

@@tweedlebug123 no, but it explains why it happened. with these situations, its better to look at the cause of a crime rather than just what was done. Yes she killed people, but she did it because she had been pushed too far and was truly isolated when she needed it the most. What she needs is extensive therapy, not prison. I kinda almost wanna say that yeah she took voluntary actions to kill a whole lineup of classmates, but its not her fault she reached that point.(?)

I have a theory So remember when the dad said "I know you won't disappoint me and mom" Maybe her parents gave her everything sara wanted but never gave her attention and that Sara really want to impress them and so she told her parents that she was running for prom queen and her parents were really excited and happy and started paying more attention to her but then Julie lost her leg and everyone started saying they would let Julie become queen and Sara's parents found out and they started lossing interest in Sara then she started going crazy to get their attention then she lost her sanity slowly until she went crazy and decided that she would murder the competition and win her parents favour and so she murdered them and got arrested Theory over But remember that's just a theory A song theory 😉

Wow, that went from Mean Girls prom drama to Carrie prom massacre in almost no time flat.

Honestly, I know everyone's talking about the terrible parenting here, but honestly, I have my doubts about whether those lines even happened. Remember, our narrators in this story are singing through the perspective of Sarah, and Sarah is an inherently unreliable narrator due to her many delusions. Those lines of terrible parenting could have just as easily been completely innocuous lines in reality that Sarah's troubled mind completely spun out of control

i think the first one was real as the father is solid but i dont think he ment to push her like that sarah just took it that way but the second vision of her dad i think is fake cause he looks see through it was most likely her stress trying to convince her to do what she did so her parents had a hand in pushing her but it seems like sara never told them they were putting too much pressure on her

this is actually a sound theory, but im kinds struggling to believe that a gal calling herself a bitch at the beginning of the song would go over the edge when daddy ‘encourages’ her to be prom queen. i personally think that this is narrated by a psychotic sibling. one that sort of whispered in Sara’s ear and gave her ‘ideas’. you see where im going, right?

I can't decide if it reminds more of Creature Feature's "Gory Demise" because of the letters at the end, or of "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" for obvious reason. That being said, I reallyove the song. I haven't heard it before, but I think I'm going to be listening to it a lot now! And you did a great job on the animatic, especially near the end. The concept of switching between reality and Sara's perception of it was really well thought out.

Dude! Same! They both fit well in different ways, since 'Gory Demise' has the whole going through the alphabet of deaths and 'homecoming queens got a gun' is about the homecoming queen set in the same sort of place, though it's more of a Gory Demise for me because that's more in theme? (homecoming queens got a gun is more... lighthearted and fun? Played for jokes?) It kinda reminds me of Carrie Underwood too.

While we're talking about being reminded of things, the artstyle gives me similar vibes that these old crime mystery flash games I used to play did for some reason ("Camel City" I think? Idk, it was by the same people that made Quest for the Eclair.)

It's really funny when you think of the dad a scrawny underling of his mother and the girls just deathly terrified of her.

Somehow... Watching this made me imagine a Fairly Odd Parents of this, with Trixie as Sarah. Maybe it's the thick outlines.

Omygod I loved the scenes where sara glitches between reality and her fantasy. Especially when shes in the asylum thinking she won the crown but shes really in a straight jacket.

I feel like the “Down on your knees before the queen” is an insult since Julie lost one of her legs so she can’t go on her knees. Yeah, Julie's a badass. With what little we know about her I don't think those were "pity votes."

So I was listening to this, and at 1:52 you can hear the backup go "poor, poor Julie" and it's honestly kinda clever, I mean, let's face it, if it wasn't for the fact that Julie lost her leg, Sara would have been Prom Queen no doubt, and while Julie tooootally deserves it over Sara, the only reason she got it in the first place was so that everyone in the highschool could go, "look how morally upstanding and self-righteous we are, we voted for the handicapped girl and made her feel special" which is about what you'd expect from a bunch of highschoolers anyway, just thought that was a neat way to show the highschool oligarchy at its finest (massive sarcasm withstanding)

You did such an AMAZING job giving form to this music. I've got no words for the talent of these kids. I havn't heard something this great and original in a long long time. And this animatic is just perfect. The visual progression of Sara's psychosis is just beautiful and you really represented the stage personalities of the singers wonderfully.

Sort of feel bad for Sara. Her parents held her to high expectations even to the point of making a big deal of being queen at prom. The type of girl who strives to impress everyone in order to be loved. Sacrificed time with her boyfriend and friends in order to achieve in life as her father said she should. in her need for perfection and love she strived to the point of a psychotic breakdown. In delusion she saw her wish to be accept by her father/ peers come true. In reality she had turned into a killer.

I think it would be awesome if this was a movie. I would totally watch that! Call it "The Rumor of Sara Berry" with a bunch of choir kids in the abandoned school that Sara went to telling the ballad of Sara Berry (not in a musical way). Come to find out that the choir kid telling them all this is Sara's sibling.

In my room at a theatre competition a group did this and the girl who played Sarah was wearing a crown when she wasn’t performing. She was creepy as hell
