This only proves him right that women should not be respected on grounds of being a capable human. Her stance nor merit had no affect at all. Asking or getting help when needed of course but something as simple as this I would have rather they let him keep the darn apology and she let's it go or force her hand and everything comes to a head then he gives in or boss picks her over him.
