@@kshitijdesai6327 In 60 years of comics, lots of different writers, obviously we're going to find some inconsistencies. I don't think she's toxic, despite being a flawed character like any other decent one. And it's pretty obvious to anyone who reads that she's Peter's soul mate, and the one who most completely accepts him. I say this as a big fan of Black Cat, Gwen and MJ.

MJ is perfect for Peter because she understands the the pain Peter goes through. She had a rough childhood and became a partygirl to deal with her pain.

It's a shame that Disney cancelled The Spectacular Spider-Man show. We could have gotten MJ's backstory animated.

I think it was at this point that i really started to prefer mj over the black cat. This and probably the one where Peter reveals his secret identity to the black cat and she just asked him to put his mask back on.

I think, Felicia starts to accept Peter later on. She did not know Peter, she fell in love with him when he was Spider Man so it makes all the sense.

Agreed. Felicia really had some issues where she couldn't be in the same room with a man that she claimed to love unless he was wearing his mask. The truth is she was in love with the fantasy of Spider-Man and cannot except the reality of Peter Parker. She didn't have a life outside of the black cat because to her that was her real face. Of course she matured later on, but by the time she lost Peter to Mary Jane. And then she tried to make him jealous by dating flash Thompson, and ironically actually fell for him too late before he broke up with her. As dysfunctional as Mary Jane's family was, she was always a better choice for Peter. Felicia just didn't understand him.

Poor MJ...

Knowing that the Spectacular Spider Man TV series was supposed to air until their marriage, it would've been cool seeing the MJ in that series bond with Peter like this. Would've been an amazing transformation from the party girl she was last seen in that series to one of Peter's closest confidants, and not just because she's pretty.

Well, Stan Lee wasn't the one to write this one and when he was still writing the main Amazing Spider-Man book, he tried his hardest to get people to like Gwen more because he based her off his wife, but ultimately neither him or other writers managed to do so. To be fair, I don't think she sucked or was horrible as others would say, but she definitely had the misfortune of being at most an ok to good character in a book known for having amazing side characters, so she fell short even to other Chara like Robbie and so on. She only had the whole "Peter's girlfriend" going for her, which is funny seeing that , that's critique usually is used with MJ even tho it doesn't apply to her like every other critique to her. Bit Stan Lee did grew fond of the pairing of Peter and Mary Jane so much so that he was the one marrying them first in the newspaper, which was followed by the actual comics doing it, which also followed not only DC wanting to marry Superman and Lois Lane as an answer, but having Stan Lee made the actual wedding in real life at a New York stadium

she WAS well written is the issue. The "girl from next door" has more or less only been reintroduced in the past decade as peters best friend/girlfriend/EX-girlfriend/wife/possible stalker. it doesn't mean her character is bad per say just that they barely ever flesh her out as a individual character.

Wow. This comic was a such a heavy and heartbreaking tale of Mary Jane’s life. The story was truly profound and very personal. What makes it so hard hitting is how it gives a realistic representation of life, highlighting its happy ups and tragic downs. The repeated complex and human themes of abandonment, sacrifice of happiness, and ongoing cope of stress really painted such a poignant picture of Mary Jane’s character after understanding everything she’s been through

@@dragonsword8129 I think it's more the fact they don't care to adapt MJ's backstory. Every single version of her outside of comics has been drastically different, for some reason companies just aren't interested in adapting OG MJ, they always change almost everything about the character or try to stay faithful but fail miserably. The only exception I would say was the Spectacular Spiderman tv show, that MJ was pretty spot on.

For raimi, he was originally intending the love interest to be Gwen but since MJ was more well known the studio decided to make her the love interest resulting in her being written like Gwen Stacy (the original interpretation of Gwen is actually fairly boring) Then after the raimi trilogy everyone assumed that is what MJ is like so from then on everyone did MJ as “I’m not like other MJs” trying to correct a problem that never existed and the original Mary Jane character/story is lost

Sony should use this storyline for a Mary jain film

Yep, and he even started to steal from the schools he worked in to sell them in the black market and even once got Gayle to steal and was willing to let her rot in prison even when she was raising her two sons all by herself. He even tried to get MJ to finish the job when she flew to Pittsburgh to try and help her sister. If it makes you feel better, Mary Jane ended up making a deal with the police to have him admit he was the one behind all of it and get arrested and she managed to get her sister freed

This is how I hear MJ in my head whenever I read the older comics and during the new 6160 Ultimate comics.

Additionally i find it weird how people trash raimi MJ for being a lame love interest and praise movie Gwen as being so much better when the raimi films basically wrote MJ as Gwen (raimi originally planned to have Gwen be the love interest but the studio changed it to MJ because she’s more recognizable so MJ was put in but basically was written as how Gwen was)

To tell everyone this. The only one time that Peter ever stood up to MJ's father is in the Ultimate comics. I think Peter was looking for MJ and he went to her house and Mr Watson came up to Peter and starting scolding and him pointing his finger. Until Peter grabs his hand with a tight grip telling him to stop talking.

Both were, not just Gayle. Yeah, it sucks that Gayle put too much on MJ when she was still just a child (she wasn't even 18 when their mother died) and it was not good for her to just have a second child without at least attempting to fix her relationship first, but at the same time due to all the shit MJ had to put on she just started to put barriers to hide her actual pain. So much so that her own family said she didn't care about anyone other than herself and despite having that carefree look on her face, she just wanted to cry and felt hurt for those comments. That and the fact that she literally ran off in their mother's grave right when Gayle needed her help the most. It was a two way street basically and the fact that MJ technically never called or saw them afterwards until after many years later was a dick move. If it helps, they did reconciled after their own father tricked Gayle into stealing something and was willing to let her rot in prison while he sold whatever he could get and get rich. He even tried to use MJ to finish the job, but instead MJ tricked him, made a deal with the cops and had her dad arrested and her sister freed

Mary Jane just likes Peter for Peter, but has trouble accepting him for being Spider-Man and all the things he puts himself through when he goes out in costume. Meanwhile Black Cat only likes Spider-Man for Spider-Man, and has trouble accepting him for being Peter Parker and his meager lifestyle. Neither woman really accepts Peter/Spider-Man for ALL that he is. I wish he would have just made that point blank to both women as pursuing something serious with them wouldn't have been in his favour. It would have made more sense to keep their relationships as flings.

In the comics, Mary Jane did develop to accept both Peter Parker and Spider-Man after Peter and Mary Jane got back together after their separation after Mary Jane came back from being killed off and revealed to be alive, Mary Jane became secure in her marriage with Peter after Peter made her realize that he needed her They were strong ever since that reconciliation that Mary Jane stuck by Peter after the Civil War aftermath It took chief editor Joe Quesada's make a deal with the devil storyline to break them up in 2007 and Mary Jane was kept away from Peter for a decade Peter and Mary Jane got married in 1987. They were married for 20 years. In the 2nd Clone Saga that took place in the 1990s, Mary Jane stuck by Peter when he was thought to be a clone she even helped him break the Jackal's programming even though Peter was trying to kill her due to the programming What she did took brains and guts it showed how loyal and faithful she was to Peter that was the Time Bomb issues Mary Jane was instrumental in Peter not completely falling apart when he was thought to be a clone as long as he had her, he felt that he could overcome obstacle Mary Jane was pregnant at the time, but she lost the baby throughout their marriage years, Mary Jane was supportive wife to Peter in all aspects one of the issues was that Peter would often be careless with his life many times he would return to action as Spider-Man even right after getting a concussion and he ends up passing out from it Peter was depicted as being serious neurotic with extreme guilt complex that he couldn't get a decent night sleep without worrying something bad was going to happen to people. Mary Jane stuck by Peter as his wife even though her life was in danger many times. another thing....Peter thought of stop being Spider-Man even told her, but Mary Jane talked him into not quitting after Peter told her the truth about why he became Spider-Man she didn't want him to act like her in regards to running away from the problem also...Flash's girlfriend was kidnapped by the Hobgoblin, and so that led to Mary Jane pushing Peter to be Spider-Man to save her. this was before the marriage

Dude what even is this comment? Spider-Man is literally the superhero with the best supporting cast, so much so that they could have entire issues without him focusing on his loved ones and still be a great read and MJ wasn't the only one that did this. And if anything, this issue alone and her relationship with Peter was one of the most interesting things in those moments, more enduring and better than any Felicia stuff happening in Spectacular (which was the whole point actually) and it pays off later on
