Wally West, even at his worst where he was written as a murderer in a shitty event and despite being missing in the new 52 for 5 years....has had so much better writing and storylines compared to whatever the hell peter has going on now. The current run of wally is how people have been wanting peter to be written for years. I will never understand how having peter parker married and being a teacher will not make him relatable but him becoming the CEO of a billion dollar corporation and dating super models and ex shield agents and fighting multiversal monsters makes him relatable.

@@judashentairoite8225 the weirdest thing is, all the stories peter went through later and in a shitty way, wally had the same arcs when he became the flash, but he learnt from them. Peter becoming a rich CEO, going global and losing it all in the end with no particular lesson but throwing it all to "parker luck"? Wally won a lottery, had a luxury mansion and went through a ton of girlfriends before losing it all and learning a lesson of responsibility. Peter having a public identity but losing his loved ones made him question that and thus he requested the devil to erase the memory and that resulted in his marriage getting killed? Wally did both of them in two storylines-after Linda had a miscarriage due to zoom's attacks, wally had a breakdown and requested hal, who was spectre at that time, to bring back the secret identity and it worked. Once, neron sought to separate their love but guess what? They stood strongly together and love prevailed. Hell, years later, wally even had his twins and got a family!!! Compare that with peter who has had horrible changes made to him by editors and writers in the name of "relatability" but have no fucking idea it means.

One of my biggest pet peeves with recent comics is the fact that they made the explanation of the Green Goblin persona for Norman that he was possessed by a Demon which would grant him all his wishes (fame, power, intelligence, success) for a price. I hate it because not only does it cheapen the idea of the Green Goblin, as an alternate ego accidently created in a science accident is a better example of the themes of science-gone-wrong and mental issues, but it also makes Norman seem like he was incapable of doing things by himself, so he needed to make a "deal with the Devil" to actually be successful. One of the greatest character traits about Norman in the older comics was that he didn't need the Green Goblin to be evil or to achieve his dubious goals, he was quite capable of doing it himself. He was a self-made man. He didn't need some alternate ego or demon to give him the strength to commit his deeds for him, he could manipulate the chess board all by himself.

my problem with modern spiderman is that they try to do the "he picks responsibility over being happy" shtick but in reality, he isn't picking, the world isn't offering him an unfair choice of right and wrong, it is the writers forcefully compressing the world into their ordained path. they alter characters' behaviors, bring out nonsensical elements or even rewrite entire portions of history to get their way. one more day may have been the start but things like losing parker industry are monuments to the BS that is spiderman's existence now. spiderman is going nowhere and the only thing that develops is the pity we have for a man that can do infinitely better if the rulers of his world weren't so set on beating him into the pavement

Becoming a fugitive, choosing vengeance over family, getting raped, almost had his wife and child killed, being trapped in alternate dimension multiple times while also getting cucked because his wife slept with someone else, constantly going to war to protect the universe, becoming a new god emperor who has to protect the new civilization and yet in the end, he managed to handle both worlds simultaneously. To name a few: Superman, SpiderMan, He-Man, Luque Picard (the character), Rocky, Thor, The Hulk, Daredevil, Batman, and many other traditional male superheroes or leads are now written as total ineffective shits who take a back seat to women or have been put to the side to make room for disturbing versions of them. Something you forgot to mention about Charlie is that she wanted to die. She intentionally threw herself toward Peter because she knew how he was going to react. The story was about her wanting to kill herself, so she contacted her old friend Wolverine to do so but Spidey kept getting in their way. In the middle of a heated discussion between Spidey and Wolvie she threw herself at Peter, so he responded with a superpowered punch thinking it was Logan. The list goes on. If you don’t allow characters to mature both mentally and physically, one might lose interest in them, because there is essentially no point in anything they go through. Even the TMNT comics do a better job with long-lasting consequences than the current Marvel stories. That’s why I am personally worried about every single character and their relationships. The recent "Everything doesn't matter" writing style of Marvel Comics as a whole, I feel, is because of the MCU. The comics used to be these standalone, in-depth opportunities to flesh out iconic characters. Now they're written with the intent to abridge themselves with the MCU. Everything now is a one shot, unrelated to previous events, acting as somewhat origin stories but also self-contained stories for the writers to have a lot more freedom. Yeah they still write some really entertaining crossover events but every single issue 1 tends to be a reboot of the character, mostly going nowhere but still managing to impact the character's mythos. How many times will Tony Stark lose everything and become a drunkard? How many times must Captain Marvel's origin story be remixed? How many times will the Avengers clash with the X-Men, Eternals, or Inhumans? Everything doesn't matter, and stories like in the video are incredibly rare.

Legit start from J. Michael Straczynski's run on the character and go from there. Chances are you already know most of what happened before his run through osmosis, and the directions he takes the character are peak spider-man. After civil war is when his run goes down hill, due to editor overreach. Dan slott is pretty controversial, but I think his early stuff like brand new day is fine, and superior spider-man is pretty good too. After superior tho is when the character just spirals and continues to stagnate, so I wouldn't recommend going past that unless you're interested. Obv you probably know ultimate spider-man, but if you don't those I highly recommend as well, gives peter a more modern contextualization.

I think my favorite Spider-Man origin story is "With Great Power". It's after Peter becomes Spider-Man, but before Uncle Ben passes away. In the comic, the time between Peter getting bitten, and Uncle Ben getting shot, is extended to a couple months. It goes really far in depth of his inner turmoil as a kid in high school who gets rejected and bullied at every turn. It goes deeper into his wrestling career and what it entailed, as well. I really recommend it.

For some context the Civil War crossover event was going on and all of the superheroes were either going to have to register with the government and make their identities public, or be branded as criminals. To make a long story short Peter ends up revealing his identity on live TV. This ends up with a sniper attempting to assainate Peter, but he gets out of the way of the bullet and it ends up hitting Aunt May. To make a long story short again there's nothing anybody can do to save Aunt May. That's when a demon called Mephisto offers Peter a deal. He will save Aunt May's life and make the world forget he is Spider-Man if he sacrifices his marriage with Mary Jane. For whatever reason Peter accepts this and suddenly 50+ years of character development are completely gone. So yeah this story is widely and rightfully considered absolute garbage.

Damn, I don't even read comics and I felt a lot of emotion listening to this story. However, I feel that this isn't a good ending for Peter as it doesn't show any real growth. Peter starts out traumatized by all the people he has let down. And at the end, he says that no one will be killed again. He's setting the bar way too high and making unrealistic expectations. By saying that, Peter is setting himself up for failure and more grief. A more mature way to contemplate the pain and suffering he couldn't stop, would be for Peter to accept that people die. And sometimes, there's nothing you can do about it. You can't change the past so he must accept it. However, this doesn't mean giving up the mask. With his power, Peter still has the responsibility to save as many lives as possible and to help as many as he can reach. And it's good for him to go out of his way to save people, even ones like Massacre. However, Peter is only human and cannot save every life. Instead of wallowing in his self-loathing and grief, Peter instead has to move on and accept the harsh truth that he can't save everyone, and be happy for all those he saved. People die, but that doesn't mean its his fault because at least he put 100% effort into trying to save them. However, the people that live, they're alive because of Peter. I think thematically, this would make a really good Spiderman story if it hasn't already been written.

Not gonna lie, I feel like now more than ever do we need a DC style reboot or another type of Ultimate universe (without a ton of super edge). If you have to stick to continuity from decades worth of stories and have characters go through circular arcs over and over and over again. Like I want to see everything from the ground up again. With fresh, new stories and with new and old characters showing real growth without constantly regressing or massively changing between each run to the point that it turns off fans from that character. The only exception I think that Marvel has to this constant contiuity is Daredevil. He is a constantly changing, complex character that has years of history built up behind him which adds weight to his actions now. And yes, I know DD has some stinkers but I feel like he has had the most consistently great comics over every other Marvel character. More ups than downs in terms of quality. I'm not saying that the history of Marvel comics should be thrown away but at some point, things just stop making sense and can massively hinder a creators control of the story that they want to tell.

And if it really comes down it, mj can divorced him because of the attacking, and teachers have low wages, so if they still want the status quo, then there it is.

How sad is this. and I have seen so many people who have come out of the recent volume of amazing spider man like Spider man fans, Marvel fans, and just comic book fans in general. Personally, I'm more of a DC person but I was raised more on Marvel when it came to film since, I grew up in the 2000's. It pretty much has everyone split into threes. Some love it, some hate it, others are 50-50. but very few people I've seen have said "I love this new volume I'd read it again." a certain percentage of fans meanwhile who say that they quote on quote "like it" are often like "Yeah it's alright I don't know if I'd read it again it had its flaws, but it was good and alright" This is Mary Jane Watson were talking about here. The most important relationship to Spiderman. That alone writes itself how you just pretty much destroy everything that a previous author was trying to do, replace it with a story that's just as bad if not worse than Brand New Day, and just completely ignore fans complaints going forward. It's criminal. And I gotta say I feel bad like I feel as if Spider man fans (or at the very least the ones who read the comics) have been getting dicked around now for way too long and I feel like I've been waiting since I discovered the existence of OMD for a massive character growth for Peter not to mention a really great spider man story. And once again I have to move the yardstick again like Nick Spencer's run was good but it never amounted to anything in the end apart from retconning sins past which brought me to the beyond saga and even with the parts I thought were interesting I thought it was alright. Well John Romita Jr is a talented spiderman artist and he's done 2 of my favorite hulk comics of all time surely he.....OH MY GODDDD. Well hopefully the next writing team and if not that hopefully the next writing team. Truth be told I have more faith now that Joe Quessida has finally left Marvel. But at the end of the day this is still in my opinion a cold, calculated, sad, pathetic move by a studio that has Batman envy so bad that they are willing to do anything to try and catch up. But all they have done is taken the worst Batman has to offer like no happiness or victories for its main character, new suits that are completely useless or underused, main character being harsh, critical and short-tempered, and notoriously slow to trust, keeping things hidden from his closest allies, constantly brooding and pushing his friends and family away. And none of the things that make Batman great like soul, a spirit of justice and hope, F***ing humanity. All of those things they chucked out so now we've got the worst of both worlds. I loved the hell out of the recent Batman movie that came out this year but I didn't like it just for the mafia subplot. Well that's all we get in the first story arc of the new volume for ASM and like I said all the humanity is gone and I don't know much about Zeb Wells so that doesn't help like......just....MAKE A GOOD STORY! YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THIS! Like do you people read a spiderman comic to see batman. I mean I'm sure a lot of you don't even read spiderman comics and you're probably not going to want to now after what they've been doing to him and MJ lately. Let me rephrase the question would turning the Spider-Man homecoming trilogy into a batman type series make it better? NO! Like I don't go to a Spiderman related media to see Batman. I go to Batman media to see Batman and even then I'm getting kind of Batman'd out because of DC overusing the character a lot recently. Which is why I wish Marvel would get their god damn ass together and actually do something but do something original, new, and it's own thing. STOP TRYING TO COPY BATMAN! I don't wanna see you do Batman. I like you because you're Spiderman. And not only that you're just getting into it too late. Like I'm getting tired of Batman doing it and now you wanna do it? The balls and the hubris to think you can really pull this off like Batman does and do this as well and just copy Batman's formula. It's F***ing ridiculous don't do it. just focus on making a really great set of spiderman stories. Like stop trying to copy the batman formula over there. Let him do his own thing. I don't know. I continue once again moving the yardstick to every writing team post One More Day discovery I hope they get their shit together because I love Spiderman. Batman might still be my favorite comic book hero of all time, but Spiderman is a close second. So even though a DC character is still my favorite it's making me cry watching this happen to a Marvel character again and again.

They play that many time he return to be a mess of a person for his "sacrifices" that you don't believe Peter actually care over it. The late good thin they do with the character were Superior Spider-man (well they too are making a mess with Otto lately) and when is using in miniseries were that version is allowed to progress with his life. Lately they neither give his small victories, that expose Peter Parker Mather too(the last time I feel it was before the event of Superior Spider-man)

I bought that recent 'Last Remains' run because I had already bought that single issue #55 with the cool Gleason cover, so figured I might as well get the whole run since it was supposed to be somewhat 'self contained. Trouble is the story wasn't self contained at all, and the art itself was very disappointing. Peter's face went from looking like a 25-30 year old on one page, and then look closer 60 a few panels later... They seem to be putting all the effort into loads of variant covers, while the interior art is a bit rough and rushed. I guess it doesn't matter, since most 'collectors' only care about the cover art anyway, and will have the issue slabbed so they don't have to read it ;)

Everything is too connected, everything matters, it's exhausting and they're never interesting. The last event I actually like was Heroes Reborn from the recent Avengers series. If you guys feel the same, read Marvels Adventures Spider-Man, starting issue 53. It's about Spidey just being a normal kid and having a mature relationship with his girlfriend. I gave up on Spider-Man since Aunt May came back to life after the clone saga. Heck since Peter literally said to MJ in a rage, “I’m going to KILL you!!” And Ben took over shortly afterward. They keep losing what made Spider-Man special, Ben was such a refreshing character only to be wasted just like Peter. They keep forgetting what made Ben popular which was that he was old Peter and Peter before Kravens last hunt, they keep making Ben into a villain, which completely alienates the audience each and every time they do this. Thank you for this video, Spider-Man Vs Wolverine is still one of the best Spider-Man stories. And this is also a great story.

You look at characters like daredevil, hulk, punisher, ms marvel, X-men, fantastic 4c, and they all have at least one incredible run in the last 20 years that people would call all timers. Spider-Man has a few runs that people are kind of into. People kind of like bendis, they kind of like the superior Spider-Man (though the slot run is divisive as a whole) , the jms run goes off the rails, just not a single completely successful run. It’s insane

Marvel’s obsession with wanting Peter to be permanently stuck in constant misery is why I stopped reading those books as soon as I saw they were going towards that direction. Even worse, I know for a fact that they’re gonna do the same to Miles, the X-Men, Hulk and a bunch of other characters, because we can’t have stuff not be like the nostalgic era that some dipshit editor or higher up is obsessed with. I hate it.
