    Your really not suppose to give up your back like that

  • @AveSicarius

    @AveSicarius

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@MissBunny850 I mean if you actually land a shot that staggers your opponent or seriously hurts them, which most spinning techniques will do if they land, then it doesn't really matter because they aren't going to be taking advantage of your back in the first place. If you throw a spinning back kick and your opponent takes a shot to the stomach, they aren't going to be able to grapple strongly at the very least, that's if they didn't get TKOed by it in the first place. I would say spinning backfists aren't the best movement, because they are relatively short-range and slow compared to spinning kicks or something like a spinning elbow, which you can do from a clinch break very quickly, but even then, your opponent still has to walk through that shot to take your back, not many people are going to be willing to do that. It's why you commonly see spinning techniques in MMA fights compared to, say, jumping techniques, which are way easier to work around. In sparring you will see people easily get taken down after throwing a spinning technique, because they are holding back and using control, but I don't know many people I think could take a full power spinning elbow to the chin and walk through it to take my back, let alone a spinning kick, and the people that could take it are significantly bigger than me, and would still be injured enough that I would at least have an advantage if they did take my back. Timing is also everything, if you set it up properly you can land just about anything relatively safely.

  • @AveSicarius

    @AveSicarius

    2 жыл бұрын

    I mean much of this footage is later in the fight, and these guy's were really going at it, so yeah their technique is going to suffer eventually. You still do see this in most heavier divisions of MMA, I mean look at the current Middle and Heavyweight division, you have plenty of guys who quickly devolve into this kind of fighting. Jorge Masvidal made a career out of brawling like this. Cung Le was also a pretty good striker due to his Sanda training, you can see this moreso in his K1 fights, but he maintained a pretty good standard in MMA (he was like 40 at this time I think), so I'd say this is more him unloading early then just resorting to trying to pummel Wanderlei because HE WOULD NOT GO DOWN (it was actually pretty crazy to see). Fighters can also look awkward when placed in awkward situations, Andy Hug was one of the best striker's in his day, and he still has a match against an opponent with no real full contact experience that made him look confounded (he was still very clearly winning but his opponent was so awkward it was difficult to respond to them). Performance for the same fighter can vary highly between fights depending on matchup. The average quality of most MMA divisions has risen, I'll agree with that, just because guys have been specifically training for MMA over a longer period, whereas in 2011 we still had quite a few guys like Cung Le who swapped over from Kickboxing and other mono-discipline combat sports (e.g. lot's of pure wrestler's and BJJ guys were still knocking around etc), but I'd honestly say it hasn't evolved as much as people seem to think, the component's have just been integrated more tightly and the level of competition is generally higher in most divisions (some are much weaker though, like the modern heavyweight division compared to ten years ago is far less scary). Even then you have guys like Khabib running through a division using a single style, so clearly there is still plenty of room left for improvement. Israel Adesanya is a striking specialist, and still made it to the top of the middleweight division. In fact it's very rare to see a complete MMA fighter still, which is where the evolution of the sport is going with younger fighters. But we still have a bunch of the old guard, we have hyperspecialists like Wonderboy who nobody will try to strike with but he's very vulnerable to wrestler's, and we have plenty of brawler's still knocking about. I mean Francis Ngannou is basically brawling incarnate, if you stand toe to toe with him he'll hit you hard enough to lift you off your feet, but he's far from a technical fighter and doesn't even really have any mix-up potential because he's been so successful with just power punching. We also see brawler's like Kelvin Gastelum remaining somewhat relevant (though he's had a bad run recently) and Robbie Lawler, the king of MMA brawler's, is definitely still very dangerous if people decide to play his game despite not being as technically proficient in grappling (which has definitely been exploited recently). We see less guys like Big Country, Mark Hunt, and Daniel Henderson, who were very much some extremely dangerous power punching brawler's back in the day, but that's only natural given that most people have more extensive training now (not that these guy's couldn't hold their own into today's division, because it's always a risk fighting someone like that). I'd also say many of the best MMA fighters were in the past, GSP was probably up there as having the best MMA style, he could MMA wrestle (which is very different to pure Wrestling) better than wrestler's and still had dangerous stand-up, and he just flowed between those two like nobody else then or since aside from one or two notable exceptions like Jon Jones or DJ, who were also extreme all-rounders. Technique is important in modern MMA, but it's still not that evident in many fighters.

    Seems like just pushing in and overwhelming the guy is all he had to do. He wasn't doing very good at a distance. Silva is a legend though, some of his pride fights are fucking scary.

    Jesus you can see the huge leaps in technique of the average ufc fighter from then to now. They would be getting clowned throwing punches like that and the awkward half assed clinch exchanges. Still this era of the ufc was crazy cause of all the roids
