Maurício Shogun Rua, also from Curitiba, was a quite successful model before joining Chuteboxe and found his true self in fighting. Talk about polar opposites

Wanderlei definitely was the one MMA fighter back then that had an aura about him. You wanted to tune in when he was fighting. He burned out quick though.....not sure if it's because of steroids or what.

@Jesus Hitler 4-5 years is definitely not very long compared to some of his pride counterparts.. He only competed against top echelon guys for 4 years with considerable success. He started to burn out quickly and noticeably by the time he got to his last Pride middleweight grand prix. Also considering plenty of legends in the fight game can last up to 7+years competing at the top.

J ROCK Thats a LONG time in the fight game bro. Whats crazy about alot of these PRIDE guys, is noone knew about them till UFC bought them out...Wanderleis best years were behind him when he came to UFC n he was still headlining main events that were sellouts....Igor Vovchyan is one of the best fighters to ever lacem up, but he never fought UFC, same with Fedor. Although the latter still fights... Anyway back to my point the Axe Murderer was the badass of badasses for a long time, hed fight anyone anysize anywhere anytime.

Silva was never the same after that Crocop high kick. It was an open weight tourny and Mirko outweighed him by 35 pounds or something ridiculous. If Wandy had taken the proper time to recover after it (9months-1 year) might have made all the difference in his career. He didnt though and his chin got weaker and weaker with each fight.

Not including his training where he allows people to punch his face to warm up the skin on his face? That made no sense when Wanderlei Silva said that, but he did. Warm up the skin on the face.

It's crazy to see how brazilians thrive in almost every sport. Its a country where no funds are destined to sports at all, we have no gyms, no fields, no courts. Our universities don't have any teams or athletic programs, most of professionals come out of poor neighboorhoods with no structure at all. You can often find out that a professional soccer player didn't even have shoes early on, they played bare footed. Fighters who didn't have any gloves, only a punching bag and a partner to beat his ass up. The cheapest the sport, the best they get. When you find a brazilian who made it in sports, take your fucking hat off, specially if you are american with all those fancy training facilities, government provided assistance and all sort of doctors to help fix you up.
